So last night I started meditating until I fell asleep. I had clear, vivid dreams and almost lucidity in one of them.
Has anyone had much success meditating into sleep or is this considered basically considered the same as WILDs?

I think its the same as WILDs.
That is the only way I can get clear dreams ususally.

I meditate every day but for some reason I can't seem to use meditation to fall asleep. I just end up meditating until I finally decide to roll over and let my neglected thoughts roam free. Then I usually fall asleep shortly after. Might be that I "restrain" my thoughts a little too hard. *shrugs*
It's a tricky one to answer.
Sometimes I've meditated early afternoon and let myself 'dip into' the HIs (lord alone knows why I haven't accidentally WILDed in all this time toying with HIs - and this was before I even knew about WILD and LDs) and then let myself drift off to sleep.
Sometimes I've meditated last thing at night and woken myself up too much and not been able to sleep.
If I WBTB I've been finding that - for whatever unknown reason - breathing exercises don't even begin to relax me.
How do you meditate woozie? Because sleep always comes after empty mind and passivity. If you are using an aggressive method like staying focused on an object or a thought to meditate, it is likely that you wake your self up.
When I meditate, sleepiness comes like a snap of a finger and so strong that I resist not to fall asleep. I use the thought "who am I really" and focus on the feeling of "I am" for meditation. This is the most useful method of meditation I have found so far. Maybe it can work for you too.
this actually happens to me sometimes too, when I medidate, but can't fall asleep, until I just stop, and let my mind wander and allow myself to sleep.
BUT... usually, to induce lucidity, or astral projection, I get closest when I meditate on the idea that "I am awake, you are asleep" while thinking about my soul/conciousness when I think "I am awake" and I focus/think about my body when I think "you are asleep"
do you meditate lying on bed?
Another reason I'm asking is because I don't want this wild thoughtscape of unprocessed thoughts overcome me before sleep. For example, if a particular fear comes to mind right before sleep that might make my next dream so I want to meditate to sleep with clear intention.
I usually focus on a point inside my brain that prevents me from actually using my brain and combine it with breathing awareness aswell.
