Difficulty Achieving Sleep Paralysis? Different Idea
I don't really have much trouble completing SP, but I've seen a lot of post from people who do. Well last night I tried something a little different from the usual advice of "count your breathing" or "focus on your breathing". As well as remaining still and keeping my eyes stationary, I used a bit of self-hypnosis which really seemed to work very quickly. I didn't have to actively keep my body still or constantly ensure my eyes weren't moving.
I first started off by instructing my mind to prepare for sleep and to enter a dream state, but deliberate stating I would like to remain conscious. I then systematically instructed my mind to shut off my senses one at a time; first realising that my eyes were closed and signals to/from them can be ignored. Then I would focus my hearing inward, concentrating on "hearing" my body's internal workings rather than what is going on outside my head. At this point, I would lose most of my hearing (all sounds of cars outside etc faded).
When SP was almost complete, I used my usual method of twitching any muscles which were not completely paralysed, to complete the paralysis.
After this, I focused on my eyes again and instructed my mind that my "real" eyes were closed, asleep, and disconnected, but my dream eyes weren't. This is what I diverted my focus to. At this point I actually felt my eyes open, but almost like they were gummed together. I experimented with a few methods to try and separate my dream body or to visualise a dream scene, with a little more success than usual. My dream body was still in paralysis but this is the furthest I have ever managed with a WILD and I was very pleased with how fast SP set in with this method.
I should also point out that this was not a WBTB, but merely as I went to bed last night. I will try some more tonight and post how I get on :)
