Becoming Lucid WITHOUT using reality checks

Ok so I have been having regular LD'S for about 6 months now. I reality check all the time during the day and always genuinely ask "Am I dreaming"?
My issue is, I have never once needed to RC in a dream to become lucid!!
What happens is I just suddenly realize I am dreaming and will say out loud in the dream "This is a dream", and not once have I ever questioned if I indeed was dreaming or not. For a while I would just wake up after I became lucid, and have only recently gotten to the point where I can stabilize the dream and not wake up from excitement. So my questions are, does this happen for anyone else?? Have you ever just become lucid without a RC and will this ever be an issue for me in the future? Is there anyone else who this happens to I.E. not needing to RC to just KNOW your dreaming? Or can someone explain what Im doing different if anything that would make this happen.

I don't EVER get lucid with RCs anymore. I've only had a couple dreams in which I got lucid because of them.

My theory is that, if you honestly think or ask to yourself that you're dreaming, then it most likely is, so you just beleive it. Some people need that extra reassurance of RCs, some don't, I don't. sometimes when you're on the fence RCs do help, but you will sometimes just know. Sometimes I think that I become lucid just because it has a "dream feel" to it, kinda hard to explain. I don't mean seeing the unordinary, just that it doesn't seem real. In a recent almost LD I didn't become lucid because I didn't think that it had a "dream feel" to it, as part of the reason. I suppose since it was very vivid.

its called being a natural, i can do this any time i choose. i can chain dreams and all the other complex things that others take their whole lives to learn. i can even create hi while sleeping or awake if i wish. its so easy for me it kinda bores me sometimes.

i should take full control of one of my dreams sometime just because i can. i still have total control pasively or actively. i also never need any of the focusing techniques or anything.

From the nature of your post, I call total BS. What makes you think you can come in here and don't even help the topic creator and instead talk about how much skill you have? It's very rude and doesn't help anyone.

Huh... I have never thought of myself as a "Natural"! I think if I was I would have alot more LD'S but im limited to about 1 or more a week. But as for what lucidreamsavy said, I too get a "dream feel" sometimes and becom lucid just because of it.

In my oppinion, become lucid because you just know doesn't make you a natural, I don't...I'm not a natural, that's for sure, but that's why I become lucid, and so do others. People (me included) also get lucid because they've BEEN lucid before, so you do, in fact, get that "dream feel". So, you may get lucid this way and not be a natural. Most naturals get them at least every other day at least, MOST, so there is a good chance that you're not a natural, but you could be I suppose...

A good number of naturals don't even know what LDs are, so since you've been doing RCs and know what a LD is...

I've never become lucid as a result of doing an RC.

I'm not a natural and I've only had a handful of LDs.



But I always do an RC every time I get lucid to make 100% sure that I'm dreaming.

Out of my 8 LDs, I've never used an RC either. It's more of a "let's just back up this idea that I'm dreaming" sort of thing.

The subconscious effect which becomes engrained by the process of consciously doing reality checks is more important than the checks themselves. Merely the act of checking if you are in a dream. You don't need a reality check in the common understanding of the word because you simply know you are awake when you are awake, so if your less than certain - you are dreaming. Either that or put the drink down. Reality checks in my opinion only really come into the equation, that's after once you've experienced lucidity a few times before, is in sleep paralysis or WILD. You want to be able to check your progress in sleep paralysis to see if you have transitioned to the dream body. Preferrably one without moving, unless you break the sleep paralysis state. Depending on the intensity of detail you might need a reality check, because sometimes it is so real in a WILD that you believe that you are simply walking around. Experience pretty much negates the need, but they can only help I think, even if you don't physically do anything.

Sometimes I find that I need to start off certain senses. Often I can see and hear, but touch is gone, or sound is not there. So I sort of have to do certain checks to make sure i'm properly aware. Not so much to see if I am lucid though, just to check the extent to which I am.

Dalziel is right.

The most important thing Reality Checking does is condition you to start questioning whether or not you are dreaming. If you do it enough, and have enough experience being inside and recognizing dreams, you won't even have to consciously question whether or not you are dreaming. You'll just know.

Of, course RCs do have their uses. Like Dalziel pointed out, they are a great tool to use when WILDing. Also, they can help you reaffirm that you're dreaming if your lucidity starts to wane.

You're so silly.

I actually became lucid entirely by reality check last night, something I never thought would happen.

I was at my friends house, when I suddenly appeared in my living room. Wait, I thought to myself, wasn't I JUST at my friend's house watching TV? How did I get here? I didn't think I was dreaming, but I reality checked because it seemed strange. I could breathe with my nose plugged, and so I realized I was dreaming.

You are the same as me.

In DILD's I just become aware. Like you it suddenly hits me that "this is a dream - Im Lucid!". Flying is my RC. I love to fly and I can just take off by will. So if im sure its a dream then I just immediately fly up.

I ask myself whether I am dreaming or not whenever several times a day whenever I see anything new, odd, or dreamlike. - or that might get turned into a dream later.

I very rarely do reality checks to become lucid. However, this doesn't mean you can do without them! I consider the extra RC induced lucid dreams to be bonuses.

RCing is an important skill to develop, no matter how monotonous it seems at times.

IMO it depends on chakras development, just as the ability to project.

IMHO, RC's aren't supposed to induce LD's directly. They just make up that "HOLY SHIT WAIT" thought, which helps in LD'ing.

Yeah, usually I don't use RCs to become lucid. Mostly I've just realized I was dreaming, but the RC induced LD worked last night. Without it, I would never have had an LD.

I am not sure it has worked in to get me into a lucid dream, outright, but it has worked by getting my mind to ask... is this normal? in dreams?

and i think that's valuable.

of course... i only do 5 or ten a day. maybe if i did a hundred a day like some do, i would have better or different results.

I've never done a single RC to check if I'm dreaming, out of my 11 LDs. I only do them after a sudden realization that I am dreaming, and then really only do them for the fun of it. It's wierd to put your finger through your palm. ;P

It's more about being aware; that helps me more than routine RCs. I actually haven't done a RC in waking life for the past few days.

2 nights ago I became lucid without RC. It happened to me a few times. I just kinda KNEW I was dreaming. But, it was not vivid at all, I could feel myself waking up, I held onto it for a while, but it was too much work, and all I was doing was standing in the middle of a street with my eyes closed, trying to relax and telling myself I will stay awake. All it was doing was keeping me in the dream, it unfortunately did not stabilize.

This seems to happen in all the LDs I have without using RCs. Probably just a coincidence.
