Question about falling asleep

Hi guys :)

I've been trying to LD for about 5 months now, with little succes. Which is no problem, really, cause after all those months of reality checking, WBTB'ing, and WILDing, I still find myself motivated enough to get it done.

I've had few little succeses where, I believe, I was partially lucid.

Anyway, here's my problem: The thing I've been trying lately, is when I go to bed, I lie on my back, put my hands on my stumach, and just breathe slowly, easily, and let my mind wander, and I try to focus on the images that will soon be appearing infront of me.

At a certain point, I will notice my body starts to feel a little more numb. Also, I would get a twitch every now and then. And eventually, I'd sometimes feel like I'm 'dozing off', 'slipping into sleep'. Like my body is floating up, except it isn't.

After that point, I'd either fall asleep, black-out, and wake up in the morning only to find out that I dreamed, and failed to become lucid in it. Or I get too excited with the thought of me falling asleep, and I become too much awake again. Usually after I get too excited to actually fall asleep, I have a hard time falling asleep again. (If that makes sense.)

I'd really like some comments on what's been happening, and I'm really hoping on some tips.

i feel pretty much the same when i try to WILD. but i dont ever fall asleep. i just get too exited and accidentaly keep myself up! im not sure how to fix it, but i would like to hear what people say, too. maybe you could try laying in a different posisition?

I experienced this a while ago when I was really set on WILDing, and it happened a lot in my early attempts. I ended up being successful after changing my routine; specifically, I changed the position I slept in(after the WBTB) and tried not to focus so much on staying conscious(I simply began to breathe slowly in and out rather than counting, tapping my finger, doing stuff like that). Try and alter one of those two things, maybe it will yield success.

think of it this way, with 5 months of practice, your closer than ever to having a lucid dream than if you didnt practice at all. keep at it dude. stay motivated. youll have one soon!

yeah the exact same thing happens to me...whenever i gradually notice that i've partially drifted into a dream, i suddenly get excited which brings me back out to where i started. However, I only started trying about 4 days ago so i guess i need a hell of a lot more practice...

Are you doing mantras as you fall asleep? That could help and focusing on your dream signs. You'll probably end up with a DILD soon!

I had a breakthrough!

Anyway, tonight I did the same thing, and after a while, I just gave up, rolled over, and BAM. I fell asleep. I could actually feel myself fall asleep this time, better than any time before. And I had the most vivid dream I think I ever had. I remember every single detail of it.

It was a flying dream. And what funny was, is that I thought (in my dream) I'd really like to fly. I wish a human was able to fly. And eventually, I was flying. And because I was, I went like 'I don't need to become lucid, I already AM flying!'. *Shakefist*.

Nonetheless, it was an AMAZING dream. I'm keeping up the good work!
