I want to "start back" into lucid dreaming soon...

Well, when school starts, it is very hard to focus on the goal for lucid dreaming. Time - wise, and just stress in general (stress makes me so I can't remember to do reality checks as much). I can't really keep a dream journal becuase if I try to get up early enough so I have enough time to write in one, I wouldn't be able to even get out of bed because I'd be so tired (going to sleep earlier doesn't really work to solve that, though).

My current plan is to try new methods (suggestions appreciated). Now let's see, I really need to go at a different path to W.I.L.D. I can never seem to stay conscious until hypnagognic imagery, and I always fall asleep if I wake up and try to do a W.I.L.D. I plan to wake up somehow in the middle of an REM period (not attempting to calculate the exact moment of REM entry, for me it would be more of a wild guess; no pun intended).

Suggestions welcome as to ways to wake up from a dream period to attempt a W.I.L.D. Now, keep in mind that I hate the sound of my alarm clock. It is so annoying. I suppose if it comes to it, I will have to use it, but any other suggestions on how to wake up are welcome.

Reality checks will now be more consistent for me, I've been quite lazy with them. A couple meaningful reality checks a day doesn't do much, so I need to put effort until reality checks, and more of them. Reality checks for me are very useful.

During the summer, my lucid dreaming skills progress quite quickly, but it is hard during the school year. Any encouragement/ideas/other are welcome in replies :)

P.S. I suppose this is more of a guide for myself (you may be wondering why I'm telling you this).

sorry, but this requires the use of your alarm clock. set your alarm clock or whatever to wake you up at whatever time. now have that thing sitting at the other side of the room. when it goes off..you'll have to get out of bed and walk a bit in order to turn it off. this should wake you up somewhat and perfect for people who fall immediately back to sleep once they turn off the alarm clock. you told me that you have between 7-9 hours of sleep. just have it set off after 5-6 hours and then do the whole sha-bang in waking your mind up. puzzles, math, taking a piss, reading(preferable a LD related book) whatever. heh..this sorta side-tracked into a WBTB :P

well yeah..as for falling asleep and staying awake for WILD. sleep in the position you least sleep in and most likely the most uncomfortable position. this alone should keep you awake more then usual. then as your falling asleep, just imagine your laying on the ground and looking at the sky, watching the clouds go by and keep your mind absolutely clear. if any tohughts pop-up, imagine them being placed on a cloud and then watch it float away. also NEVER ever think "i wonder if im almost asleep" or "sleep damnit!" or anything along those lines. being anxious wont help

umm.just dont only do reality checks. just in general be aware of everything around you. notice all details and what not. do that a lot.

MILD was really never my thing but if you want advice on that then ill give it, but you may already know the stuff i know about it. actually you may have already known the stuff i just told you above O_o

Well, I MAY have (I knew the general methods), but the main purpose of this thread was to give me like... a whole new lucid dreaming practicing schuedule based on your own variations of a technique. For example, I probably wouldn't have done WBTB, but now that you say I should, I guess I will tonight. I think I will do some sort of board game (yeah, with myself :P) or puzzle or something during WBTB.

Thanks for the idea of not doing reality checks or anything, I suppose that is a good idea, not doing a method at all if I'm going to do it crappily basically.

Also, my back is my least slept in position and it is almost unbearable. After a couple of minutes (I suppose if I'm really tired it doesn't matter, but hopefully that is the case), I have this feeling that I NEED to switch positions because it is so unnatural and uncomfortable for me. But hey, I'll try it anyways. When you say what I should do during WBTB, which one is preferable? Because I think I will either read a book I have (I have exploring the world of lucid dreaming) or finding a puzzle or something to do, basically activating my logic side of the brain. I hope I don't wake anyone up with my alarm clock (it doesn't really matter anyways), but I suppose I SHOULD put it on the other side of the room as opposed to stretching the cord out. I usually just unconsiously pull it toward me and turn it off.

well, i didn't really say that, but you are right. If you're not gonna do it right or enough to actually be effective then take a different road. I've done away with reality checks a long time ago because i have NEVER gained lucidity from a reality check..ever. If its the same for you then stop doing them. But the Being aware of your surrounding is pretty good. Just to clarify. Stop(or don't :P) and look around you. See anything strange? Look at the detail of the ceiling, the floor, look to the side. dont space out, or ignore things. Also when you're walking around, try to take in all the detail of what you're looking at etc./whatever/blah

same here. I cannot stand sleeping on my back, but take this advice(you told me that you try WILD when you go to sleep, so dont do that anymore :)) Wake up after 5-6 hours and then sleep on your back. It'll be MUCH easier to fall asleep. trust me. Also i've heard that its better if you do it in the morning with the sun risen up already, but sorta impossible for us because of the weather and where we live.

Id say the book. I've heard that its help more when you occupy your mind with soemthing about lucid dreaming during the time you are awake. you know..get you in the zone or something

but yes, definitly keep the alarm far enough so that it requires energy to turn it off and so that you dont unconciously turn off(which was what i did a lot so i just moved mine :))

Im gonna tell you a little story of mine. Sometimes i sleep on my couch by accident and then my alarm clock goes off in my room(which would wake me). I would have to walk to my room and turn it off and just go bed there. sometimes that walk is enough for me to have a lucid dream. There were even times during the same situation when i wasnt wakened by the alarm and so the sound was loud enough to wake me in my dream, but soft enough to allow me to continue dreaming.

so perhaps you could also experiement with sounds. you know..loud enough wake you in your dream, but soft enough to sleep through? I'll comment a bit more later
