Entering dream without ever losing consciousness

Here's what I do basically every night/morning, and I just thought i'd share. It's similar to the DEILD(I think is what it's called) but I don't do exactly that.

Anyways, i'll wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning. Unlike the DEILD technique, i'll actually look at the clock to see what time it is and decide if I want to go back to sleep or not. I just do this very briefly, I don't get up or anything. To me the key is to not get up or keep thinking about random things for too long.

Anyways, i'll decide what position I want to lay in as I go back to bed, and i'll stay in the position without moving. Then I choose a thought that I want to COMPLETELY focus on. Here's what I recommend if you can remember what you were dreaming about before you woke up. While laying down, go back and replay the end of your dream. Then just get creative and continue your dream with your thoughts. This may be hard if you're not creative, but it's usually pretty easy. At least with me, when I wake up and do this my mind is still sort of in dream mode so if I close my eyes I kind of naturally continue my dream. If you don't remember what you were dreaming about, thinking about something else works. What I recommend is picking a few of your favorite lines from a song and just repeating them over and over in your head. Like hear it in your head, along with the music and the beat and everything.

Anyways, here's where it gets weird. I want to get feedback and hear whether anyone else has ever experienced anything like this. After a little bit of thinking about whatever I choose to think about, I start to feel like i'm sliding off of my bed. I know that I can't possibly be, since i'm laying on my flat bed, but that's what it feels like. At this point I start to focus harder on either repeating those song lyrics or continuing my dream in my head. The feeling of movement continues. I'll start to feel like i'm floating, or just sliding across the room. I feel like i'm moving a lot, but really i'm just laying in my bed completely still.

After a little bit of this weird sliding/floating sensation, suddenly i'm in my dream, still thinking about that dream or those song lyrics. I entered my dream without ever losing consciousness. I do this just about every night.

Anyways, just wanted to post this to get your guys' feedback on what you thought and whether this sensation of sliding and floating all around my room had happened to any of you.

This sounds good. I think I have tried to do something similar before, but I don't think I focused on continuing my dream well enough to the extent that I found that I was dreaming.

I'll give this a shot and report back

Kind of like a VILD. I too glance quickly at my clock when I wake up, trying not to move much. I wake up after every REM cycle by drinking a lot before I go to bed. I know what you mean. A few times, I have thought about something, or pretended to have a dream/make up a dream by visualizing it as I fall asleep. After awhile I am actually in the dream. This usually startles me when i realize it, and pop out of it. I will try your method. I have a question. Around how long does it take do you think to go from starting to visualize and actually being in the dream? Thanks!

Well, I believe that would be correct to classify your method as DEILD. Anyway, that feeling that you get from sliding around and stuff are most probably from hypnagogic hallucinations that your mind produces when you are right in the middle between the wake and the sleeping state.

Hmm haven't done this in a long time. May try tomorrow morning. If any of you have tried it, or plan on trying it, would love to hear feedback.

Have you ever wet the bed with that REM technique? Like, serious question. It's always a wonder to me because I'll go the whole night with like half a gallon of water in my stomach and the next morning I pee it all out. (Staying on topic) I usually don't imagine the last thing I dreamed of. I feel like if I stress too much about my last dream, I won't dream about it at all. But I will give this a go tonight. :)

sorry I never answered your question I stopped coming to these forums for a while. Honestly I don't remember. If I had to try to go off of memory i'd say maybe 10 minutes at most. somewhere between 5 and 10 maybe. idk. Next time I do this though i'll post about how long it took.

That sounds like a WILD... I wonder if you were focus, you could turn that into an OBE...

I've been very interested in OBE's recently, but i haven't tried it yet. I hadn't thought about attempting it after waking up in the morning while going back to bed. Very interesting idea. Basically the idea is that you're supposed to use some sort of technique where you feel like you're somehow coming out of your body, right?

there's several techniques you can use, but instead of thinking about song lyrics or a dream you have to FEEL yourself coming out of your body. you can do it by imagining yourself walking up stairs (more mental than physical sensation), climbing a rope and "pulling out", or even just "rolling" out of your body (you should do exercises to "loosen up your projectable double" before this method), but not physically moving. you should feel energy sensations before you do, like a tingling or warmth, then upon exit most people feel strong vibrations or falling sensations. another way to induce an OBE is when you go into SP you simply "shift your point of reference" to a point outside your body. i did this once (my only true ex successful OBE so far) and here's what happened...

i was having trouble getting to sleep, and i kept looking over at the clock every 45-60 minutes thinking "shit i need to sleep." i am very proficient in relaxation exercises, but i can't perform my primary one (the alexander technique) due to the fact that i had surgery on my shoulder, so i can't tighten up my left shoulder or arm without some degree of pain. instead i simply focused on my breathing and imagined all tension and wakeful energy melting out of my entire body with every exhale. i then went into a state where i wasn't fully paralysed, but moving would take an INTENSE effort. i felt extremely heavy. then i remembered reading when that happened to the authour of the book he simply shifted his point of awareness somewhere else. i chose to just focus my awareness out next to the bed as if i had just stood up from the bed. i then realized that i could see my room and got excited. i started to look around and was acutely aware of being in 2 places at once (i could feel myself "standing" in the center of my room, but was also aware of my hands on my stomach of my physical body). i was almost turned around to look at myself lying in bed when my WBTB alarm went off and i was simply back in my bed, in one place only, no longer heavy or paralysed.

so give it a shot, it may take some practice, like lucid dreaming, but it is a very unique and rewarding experience!!! =D hope i helped

My opinion, and OBE is just another type of LD. You will hear much debate on this. - Really, with an OBE you just see you leaving your body, or feel it. It usually starts with you in the same place you went to sleep. Much like a False Awakening.

The feelings you expressed of moving around, floating, etc.. Those are all feelings people who try to obtain OBEs mention.


DreamscapeExplorer did go into a few methods, but if you google methods, there are countess tricks you can do.

Siphorix, i used to think that too, but think about something for a moment...in an LD, you can manipulate the dreamscape and the characters in it right (well, if you have full lucidity and you are clear in your intention)? in an AP/OBE, you only have very limited control, even if you apply methods used in an LD and are completely aware of your situation. during AP/OBE's the only thing you can control is yourself and anything you are in immediate contact with (i.e. a wall, and phasing through it)...you can't actually alter the "fabric of reality" if you will, or control what other people/animals/beings do...which proves that these are two very distinct and seperate phenomina.

I may be showing my own ignorance here, having only possibly had an LD for 60 seconds or so and never having had an OOBE, however, could the idea of not being able to control your surroundings in an OBE not just be your own mental projection of what you have been told an OBE is like? I'm not disputing their existence at all, in fact I'm incredibly interested in them and would like to check them out once I get the hang of lucid dreaming but the little logical part of my brain is jumping up and down saying could this 'non control' of the OBE just be another fabrication of your own mind?

I read all of Robert A. Monroes books about 10 years ago but don't really remember enough about them to comment on the phenomenon.

the thing is, it's not only him that can't control OBE's. I've never read an experience of anyone controlling one.

I don't think that I have either, I was more just getting out a random musing from my head. Sometimes I think about things far too deeply :)

i was just making a history in my mind.

Suddenly i did a RC and i was there in a LD

The second time i tried i entered the dream again.
That week i decided that this technique was the best to me, and would do it every night.

never entered a dream again with it lol
i think cuz i dont focus.

exactly. the whole key to controling your lucid's is to BELIEVE you can control them, and EXPECT what you wish to happen as if it were already so. the thing is, people try to do this in an OBE before they realize it is in fact an OBE and then when it doesn't work they chalk it up to just a lack of belief/ability. sometimes people don't even realize they are out of body until they see something happening and find out the next morning at that time the thing they saw actually occured (i.e. they see a friend playing a specific level of a game and then going to bed...they see or talk to their friend the next day and say "i had a dream last night that you were..." and the friend says "thats creepy...i was at that same time you had that dream!") this was actually an OBE.

kjarva, i don't know who Robert A. Monroe is...but a good book to read on the subject is "Astral Dynamics" by Robert Bruce. thisis where i get most of my information from, although i do pull from variuous other sources as well. not to be"advertising", as i have never met the man and don't work for the publisher (i'm only 17 lol) but this is the best book on AP and OBEs i've ever read. it tells you everything you need to know about OBEs, energy bodies and their roles, and even a little bit on LDs. definitely a good read, and very informative. =] btw, i like your profile picture. =P

And you're saying you've been trying my technique? If so, that's awesome that I got someone using it! :)

The only thing I can suggest is that, as you start to drift off, whether you feel the strange sensations I described or not, THAT MEANS THAT YOU ARE CLOSE. So, instead of quitting, focus as hard as you can either on continuing the dream or repeating the song lyrics. Once you get to the stage where it's hard to stay focused, you're incredibly close. Probably 1 maybe 2 minutes until you're in the dream. Hopefully knowing you're that close will be enough motivation to stay focused until you enter the dream. Good luck!
