First Lucid Attempt - DEILD

I discovered Lucid Dreaming through a friend on another forum, he referred me to this site. The past 2 days I've been looking through the site, reading about others Lucid Dreams and everything, and it got me really excited. It seemed like a beautiful and safe way to enter my imagination. I don't think I've ever been Lucid in a dream before, and I remember at least one dream every night.

So last night I went to bed at around 12:00 midnight on a Friday, trying to use the DEILD method (should a first timer use this method?), and after a while fell asleep around 12:20 I believe. I remember having a small dream, I was hanging out with my friends in some store, messing around and laughing. I woke up from the dream, and remembered everything. I shifted SLIGHTLY in my bed before going, NO!, I'm not supposed to move! I realize I only shifted a tiny bit now. But when I realized this, I stopped completely and closed my eyes. I wasn't sure what to focus on, and my mind was all over the place. I tried to focus on being outside somewhere peaceful. And after what seemed like forever my body was tingling and I felt almost numb. I started to feel like I was "sinking" in my bed, it was awesome. My heart was racing, and I was really excited. Right before what I think was entering a dream, I would always get too excited and fade away from the dream, going back to reality. I kept repeating the process of focusing on a scene somewhere, and almost "zooming" in on a specific object with a camera point of view. After about 5 minutes, I got really deep into a dream state. I felt really weird, and once again, got too excited and faded out. I decided to finally move in my bed, THIS is where I got freaked out. Once I rolled in my bed and moved, I sort of "woke up" and came back to reality. I felt really strange and realized, I was in an REM cycle and my body was sleeping, but my mind was wide awake. It was really strange, and cool. I think I was in the halfway point between reality and dream. I'm gonna do this every night, and hopefully I'll get my first Lucid.

Awesome! Yeah, just keep practicing and you will progressively become better and better. Just like anything else in life, with lucid dreaming practice makes perfect. Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing your future successes!

Probably the easiest way to DEILD is to remember the dream you just woke from, and imagine yourself back in it. This tends to work better than trying to invent a new scene.

Also, when you wake up in deep REM you're in pretty close contact with the subconscious. It's a good time to ask it for something you want to dream about. Example "Can I dream about flying?"

Try it... you just might find yourself flying in a lot of dreams afterwards.
