Questions about WILDing and OOBE

When WILDing, what exactly do you wait for? Do you just stare at the back of your eyelids until you see something that looks like a dream? And how do you go into it when you see it?
And when attempting an OOBE, how exactly do you know when its time to float out?

I've tried to have an OOBE before, but never actually got out..I knew my body was completely asleep and it felt like I was just inside my head. I never heard any noises though, and I was just waiting like that for 2 hours. I got tired since nothing really was changing, so I tried to make it into a WILD, except I didn't exactly know what to do but wait for maybe a dream like atmosphere..
I fail at everything, please help.
