      Welcome to DV !

by Dream Guides, do you mean those that you encounter in your dreams or the Dream Guide staff we have here at DV?

Here is some information on the Dream Guide program here on the forums:
      http://www.dreamviews.com/f20/dream-guide-program-6814/

In regards to Dream Guides as dream characters, they can pretty much help you accomplish anything you need within a dream. In my opinion, the best way to summon them is to not withhold so much control over the dream world around you and let some things play out on their own. This is hard to do, but think about talking to a character in a dream. They can either say what you project them to say, or you can switch of conscious control over them and let them speak for themselves. This is a way of "searching".. when you don't have expectations in dreams you are more likely to discover surprising and/or formerly locked information. In order to find a dream guide, you ought to use this practice - be a detective of sorts - ask around, see if anyone can, or knows someone who can, help you with your task, whether it's exploration or a specific objective.

First off, a dream is conjured by your subconscious(SC). The ever changing environment, time, actions, are all managed by your subconscious. When you LD, you are able to send information to your SC, at which point your SC makes it happen.

A dream guide is nothing more then you telling you SC to create a 'variable' in your dream. Since dreams are a free-flow of data controlled by your SC, it will apply to this guide you told your SC to make. - Some of the same principles apply when you 'summon' a person/friend. Since dreams have absolutely no boundaries, and your SC knows this, it will make the guide be able to assist you in any manner without limitations.

Both your conscious and subconscious take the world "guide" and translate it to "one who assists", or "one with more knowledge and whom can take the lead/teach".

Ultimately you have to remember, that EVERYTHING you dream is part of your mind, thoughts, and imagination.

There is a fine line between controlling your dream, and letting it play by itself. You need to be right in the middle. You don't want to control every aspect. You simply need to let it flow, controlling yourself, and what you want, not focusing on everything else.

As to answer your question, you have to:
      1. Believe that it/he can exist, since everything is possible in dreams.
      2. Make an attempt to call it/him/her forth (it helps calling it outloud) "Dream guide, come here, I need you, show yourself".
      2. Expect that the guide has shown up, but is simply out of site. [Behind that wall -or- Inside that room -or- right behind you]

Some believe DG's are manifestations of the mind. Others believe they are sentient entities.

I found mine by willing to have a dream about him.

I finally can say I've identified my dream guide.

I did it this morning. I after a few dreams went about after a rampage to the side and yelled out "DREAM GUIDE! Come here!" as I realized it was a dream again and stopped my senseless rampage.
Just a moment later I hear someone walking in the snow to then stand a distance in front of me looking at me. It was a girl. One I've seen before. Last was a couple days ago at which point I suspected she could be it. I'm now quite certain it's her.

She went on about explaining things and giving me advice on how to do things in waking life as well as maybe giving hints on mechanics of the world. Next meet I need to confirm her name.

This is a great milestone for me to have.

Keep in mind that this is the beyond dreaming section of Dreamviews not to mention that Chris also stated that he believes that he has had two OBEs. Other than that good advise.
