      Is this bullsh*t? (Meditation)

Im trying out meditating and I did some googling and found a site with lots of information and They even have instructions/guides to do certain things while meditating. Im very interested in the discovering my inner guide and it even has an audio thingy to listen to while meditating.

Now my question is, does this actually work?(the guide and/ot the audio) I haven't ever tried meditating so I probably wouldn't get it right the first time and I dont want to spend wasteless hours trying to get it right if it wont even let me discover my inner guide.

So I'm asking for someone to try this out who knows what they are doing or even just read the guide/audio and see if the guide is actually helpful. I know its a little to much to ask, but I will be very grateful to anyone who helps me out .

I have not tried any of the audio stuff as of yet, I am thinking of giving the Brain wave entrainment a go though.

If you focus intensely before you meditate it makes it easier, i think becuase of the whole duality between the two.

      Meditation is...

Ok its when you just are... not a thought in your head, the internal monolog in your mind is quiet, because it too is busy just being.

You become VERY aware of your surrounding because you are a PART of your surrounding, if you are outdoors animals dont seem to have a problem coming up to you i noticed, becaue you are a part of the landscape and even a part of them.
      Do not think,
      Just Be.

Yep the brainwave entrainment helps but i think that most of the time you should do it on your own. I like this feeling better

When i meditate it helps me to observe my thoughts and then see them as bubbles , i then erase the bubbles, and here you go... i dont know if that will help you though....

Does anyone meditate randomly? Like you'd be in the middle of something, and suddenly you meditate for a few minutes to make yourself peaceful? I do that, it helps when you're busy and stressed.

I do it at work, my bod just goes on autopilot and my mind quiet. It helps me deal with the monotony.

Good question. When I have time to do it, I only have time for 15-20 minutes.

wait until you have enough self disciplin to go for hours, 2 is hard, but try 6 or 7...if you have the will to keep your mind empty that long, you will undoubtly be quite different from most ppl you ever meet. you will understand things that most will never grasp. you will not be able to hold down a job doing anything repeptitive like the service industry, lol.

I assure you Meditation is real. it is the utmost form of prayer
it is the key to seeing you own personal manifestation of the face of god (insert personal deity here)

      do not worry
      do not think

these are desires and not meditation
      stop thinking, stop trying,

in the words of kerouac 'some think. think not, think no more"

good luck, it is well well well well well well well well well worth your while

Whenever I'm walking down the hallways at school I practice completely clearing my mind; it's really weird because everything starts to blur and you start to get dizzy, but it's fun.

Isn't Lucid dreaming a form of self meditation? How does Lucid dreaming and Meditating co exsist?
I'm going to check out those sights

Unfortunately I've never been able to reach my inner self... I think I have to feel it first to be able to achieve it, but once again, it's a loop...

some really good ideas in this thread. I totally agree with Serinanth that meditation can happen anywhere. going for a walk, sitting in natures, staring at some leaves, making love, observating people's faces... could be anything, anytime... it is just a way of heightening your awareness. give it a try, periodically just pay extra attention to the details in life, extend that attention and it will turn into a meditation.

as to reaching your 'inner self' that is a tough thing to define. It is like a bottomless well, deeper you go, the deeper still you can get. one thing that is easier to defining is reaching a trance-like state, which can take like 15-20 minutes.

My art teacher used to say "our class is only 55 minutes. since it takes about 45 minutes to reach your right brain creativity, you only really have 10 minutes of quality drawing, so let's get started". I think that is kind of symbolic for meditation, you just do it, go into it and the few minutes when you are really there in a trance or just "in the zone" are incredibly effective at calming your total self.

I believe this all blends well into lucid dreaming cause it quiets the mind and raising your lucidity overall in life.

I know since I'm new that finding incredible things on this forum is going to happen frequently and often until I get bored or someone chases me off.

And since a great many of you seem well grounded I had wondered if I should mention this right away out of insecurity that I might appear to be the New Kook.

Sometimes I fall asleep during meditation and sometimes when I do, I end up walking with my spirit guide. A few weeks ago the following happened.

I was meditating, fell asleep and found myself in the Egyptian desert before the time of the Pharoahs. "Where are we, Desmira?" I asked.
She told me "This is where I'm from. You asked and now I'm showing you."

It was SO beautiful. Egypt wasn't always a desert and in this landscape, the desert was just starting to take over. A sand storm approached and she pulled me towards shelter. At first I thought it was a cave but soon I realised it was a makeshift prison. Something told me that the human race in that part of the world were slaves. "Were you a slave?" I asked.

She merely said something like "The enslaved use that word while the master uses the word prisoners to not make themselves look bad. "

For some reason I began to shake and became frightened. Then I asked what she called my planet in ancient times. She wrote a word in the sand I had never seen before. The word was "Troquet"
She said. "Soon it will come again."

Then I woke up and wrote the dream down.

I GOTTA tell you- when I did an internet search on the word
      I was stunned.

It's a root word that stems from the German word Trokey , the root word Trocha which is defined by the following:
      Definition:
Tro"cha, n. [Sp., bypath, crossroad.] (Mil.)
A line of fortifications, usually rough, constructed to
prevent the passage of an enemy across a region. [Sp. Amer.]

      Even Troche is defined by:
      Definition:
      Tro"che (tr[=o]"k[=e]), n. [Gr. trocho`s anything round
      or circular, a wheel,

Troch is also a Greek/Latin Prefix meaning fortress

Now if that's considered meditation that DOES NOT work-
then I dont know what to tell you. But thanx for being a part of helping
      me to open up.

Well, one thing I came to notice when beginning to get into meditation is that sounds really do help. It's a delicate thing for most beginners, and it's important that the audio assistance make sense - what I mean is that you'll soon notice certain cycles of enlightenment, and the sound should bend for YOU personally.
I have a session with Brandon Boyd that is a great beginning tool. The sounds actually change with what is an ideal meditative cycle...so as I delve deeper and deeper into meditation, the sounds have been carefully orchestrated so as to better compliment my state. You could think of it like an exercise routine: warm up, rigorous, cool down...
This isn't really as necessary when you get a better handle on meditation. But it never hurts and is always sooo peaceful, especially if you don't have any special place you can go that is naturally a good meditation setting.

It's not something you'd normally be able to name. It's something you have to sit down and actually experience.

Your inner guide and ISH are the same thing.

They're are many different ways to get in touch with him. And luckily, sense your a lucid dreamer, you can go about it the "easier way".

Your ISH is they guy inside you that knows everything. He's infinitly wise. Sometimes he's an image of you, some times he's an image of someone you respect, and sometimes he's just an entity. I remember I was reading about one accounts where he was Spock from star trek..

Now your ISH is usually located in extremely hard places to get to or high up. So saying you want to meet him won't make him appear most of the time. People who say they've met him all agree that you simply can't control what he does. You spin and say you want to meet him and you'll find yourself in a brand new location. Try to find him and see what happens.

I was actually trying to meet the guy yesturday believe it orn ot. Last night I was climbing a mountain to meet mine when embodiements of who I am came floating down and fought me. I actually lost in my own dream (first time), After I had hit the ground for a while I found I couldn't move then I woke up.

Now it may be way easier to meet yours than it was mine. Personally I believe that he knows that I'm going to try to jump and inside him and wake up to see what happens so he won't let me get all that wisdom just yet. But whatever.

I have been meditating regularly for about a week now, as a result of studying OBEs and trying to produce them. Although I have had no success, I have found that trance meditation is a terrific benefit of the energy work that I do. I can throw myself into a full trance in about 5-10 minutes and open my eyes, refreshed and ready for whatever task approaches me.

I do feel much different than I did before I meditated every day. There is a certain unity between body and mind that you gain after doing it so many times. Could Zen be an extreme form of this? Of course, Zen is one school of Buddhism and thought. Some people believe Zen is a philosophy, a knowing of a certain quality of life that is inescapable and changes your weltannschung permanently. Others believe it is what I described above, the unity of body and mind. Personally I believe it is both. Buddha believed that the path is within oneself and that is the only way that you will find what you are seeking, by looking down your own path. Looking within yourself for your path. Living bushido, I feel now that my life is more moment to moment.

It is worth it. But only if you dedicate yourself to it.

I could go on and on, but I'll save you people the trouble.
