How to tell the difference between a DC and another dreamer

The Ignore Test
DC's require your attention to exist.
Other dreamers do not.

Therefore, a simple test is this: If you think a person in a dream may be real, as in another dreamer with their own mind, ignore them. Just turn you back on them, and if they are a DC, they will have vanished.

If it is another dreamer, they will still be there.

Traits of DC's vs. Dreamers

Intellect
Another way to tell is DC's are kind of idiotic. They tend to talk in circles, nonsense, or even total gibberish. If they say anything intelligent, it sounds like something you would say, or something you would expect them to say.

Another dreamer (if they are inexperienced) will usually say, "This is my dream! Get out of my dream!" because they, like you, were raised with the silly silly notion that dreams are all in your head. I always laugh when they say that. Other dreamers will have conversations with you. They will often surprise you with their intellect. Another common thing they may say is, "No, you're not real, I'm real."

Energy

A real dreamer has a different feel. Imagine the energy of a character on a TV show. Now imagine someone is in the room with you. They are silent, but they are there.

Appearance

A dreamer may have a very detailed appearance. A DC will generally have a much more simple appearance.

Do you always have to be lucid to have a shared dream?

We often share dreams, but not always. In your Inner World, it may just be you and your DC's.

You said that sometimes your in a dream, with other dreamers, and other times your in your own dream world. Is there a way to choose between, like, a different technique to becoming lucid, or is it completely out of our control? + Sorry if its a stupid question, i'm only new.

Think of your Inner World like your house.

I do have a lot of DCs that sorta fade away if I don't pay attention to them. Or sometimes when I become lucid, an entire DC cast will just disappear before my eyes!

But I also have a lot of DCs in my dream that seem intelligent and don't necessarily disappear. They remain fairly stable. I still consider them DCs though because of how they answer my questions, or their energy. Like sometimes they will come up to me and tell me that I'm dreaming, or they admit to being a DC. But they still seem conscious. Of course, maybe they're not DCs, but I actually don't want to consider that for too long :alien:

I guess what I'm saying is knowing the difference between a DC and another dreamer isn't so cut and dry for me. :( I've also had a DC once who told me that he was dreaming, inferring that I was his DC. But I can't remember if he was detailed or not!

Maybe my problem has to do with lucidity and dream stability. Being lucid first would probably help a lot :cheeky:

I tried the ignore test and 3 different dream characters and it failed every single time. I believe a lot has to do with your dream control. And my dream control is pretty bad...

The only problem with the ignore test is that, for example, say I travel to my dad, I find him in a dream, in order to see if he's real or not, I ignore him, likewise, he feels that I'm a DC, or otherwise that he shouldn't be near me, so he leaves, I turn back, he's gone. With certain people this is more likely, like my dad, who may or may not want me to go into his dreams, depending on the dream.

That, and the possibility that, and this is more of a posed question, if both dreamers ignored each other, would they not have a good chance of leaving the place where they were previously meeting at? Say I meet with you, and you think I'm a DC, and so you turn around and occupy yourself dreamscaping, I turn around and do an ignore test. It seems to me there would be a good chance of us leaving each other through even minor dreamscape changes.

On the first scenario, yes that's a possibility.

On the second one, yes that's a possibility also.

Think of it this way: every RC can fail. So, so can the Ignore Test. There are a myriad of scenarios that one could think of.

In my experience, it works very well. Please try it and see what happens.

One thing about the ignore test, If you are going to turn your back to the DC/Dreamer with the intend to ignore THEM. You aren't ignoring them you simply still think of them. Now if you your look up to see a beautiful dragon with big wings and claws that fly's really fast past your vision but you remember the sound of his wings moving the air around you as it passed. and then look in front of you, That is when you have ignored the being. Keep this in mind!

You maybe can achieve some result by just thinking you are ignoring them but the effect would be much stronger with scenario of the encounter with the dragon.

Also i am not stating that the TS have informed you wrong in any way i only say this because the interpenetration of this different depending on your personality.

Man, this makes me want to share a dream really bad...

I've had a couple dreams where my dog who died a few months ago randomly appeared at my side. As in I looked down and she was there without me expecting it.

I had a SD. I saw some people in my dream then saw them in real life... the dream is in my DJ.

It is the most recent entry. The people I saw were at the very end of my dream.

Love the post, but noticed that in the last year or two that along with suddenly being able to read/write in my dreams, that some of the DCs in my dream world (sphere) have started to display some major signs of intelligence/individuality. The only way I can be 100% sure if a DC isn't a real Dreamer is to use my 'will' to force them to say/do something. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to force a real dreamer to do anything, I had a clash with one once I think and couldn't get them to submit even though they seemed less than lucid.

the only thing i dont get with this is if you are purposefully ignoring them, then arent you somehow still giving them attention. like even if it is just a dc you may turn your back on them, but inside you may hope that they will still be there which may make them appear real?

I saw on a couple of Russian forums that people tend to check whether the person or a thing in front of them is real by confronting them and basically asking "what you really are?!" and even poking them or hitting slightly i don't know.

I actually used something like that even before I came across that - once in a dream I was watching a film with my brother and aunt and after becoming lucid I got really angry at them, because they seemed so fake. So I came closer to my aunt, took her face in my hands and looked at her attentively, strongly wishing she would show me her true nature - and then her face started morphing and she turned into this scary ugly green thing. My "brother" did the same.

But who knows, maybe that was real her anyway and my subconscious just revealed how I see her, because she's a true bitch X)

For me the energy works well. I mean i feel other dreamers differently, they have the presence. Curiously lately i had couple of DCs who came to me and started to speak to me insistingly even though i didnt care much about them. One of them even asked me if i remembered her. I remembered the person and even the dream in which i saw her but not the name.
Anyways, feelings obviously work well even on the dream plane.

If you are still giving them attention you are not truly ignoring them. You must focus on something else. I think I may have confused people by saying "turn your back on them and then turn around."

Lucidity only shifts your awareness, it doesn't change the inherent texture of the dream much as we might expect it does if we suscribe to the notion of dreams "only being in our heads"

I think the Back Turn Test is the least likely to contaminate the process any interaction is likely to trigger a response in your own subconscious projection. It seems like the most impartial method but I'm enjoying the read here. Compliments to your insight

This made me think of a dream I had a while ago... It might have been a nightmare to anyone else, but I was subconsciously aware it was a dream, so I wasn't scared. There was this person in my dream, a sadist. He controlled the entire dream, like a lucid dreamer would. He took me and a couple of my friends(they were TERRIFIED xD) and then had us go through various trap routes. I remembered the person from before, when I was little(either an in-dream memory or something that actually happened in a previous dream). However, I think I disappointed him xD. I wasn't scared at all! In fact, I had fun. The traps were really cool, and I just viewed everything as a Prince of Persia game. Could this have been another dreamer? There are threads where people discuss the best ways to kill DCs after all.

Shared dreams are illusions. Everyone you dream about, every character in your dream is just something you dreamed up. It is an aspect of your personality and nothing more. Just telling it like it is. If you dream a lot about people in everyday waking life, you should probably move away from them to let your mind get free from it's false delusions of them.

I have had conversations with true-life people in my dreams, where they have transferred information to me (be it names, data, etc.), that I would have no way of knowing otherwise. I then verified this information actively ("Do you have a so and so whose name is Tom?") with that person, or others who might know, later upon waking.

I will admit, they are hard to believe. And I'm not saying every dream image of a person is that person sharing your dream. But, like most things, it can't be neatly divided into black and white. They aren't always illusions.

I couldn't see the features well so i kinda walked away, and came back and seen the person there still but once i did that i became lucid and features got clearer. I thought i turned around but actually i walked away for a bit because the features were faded so i did a refresher moment for my dream scene.

Well you can trick them as well, i did it on my recent dream, a dream character stalking me and what ever only because i am giving attention but once i trick a DC it will go away. Another way of having them disappear and not annoy you.

Getting into the topic of DCs being imaginative figures or astral entities in our dreams can open up a metaphysical debate on if there is something on a parapsychology level within our dreams. If we believe or follow other dreamers or deceased individuals can cross into our dreams than we’re saying there’s a lot more going on than what we perceive. Personally I believe…and just believe….that our lucid dreams fall into the lower mental or astral planes. Its one step from full consciousness. Maybe at times when we go Lucid and start traveling around and fall back into non-lucid dreams of bizarre nature we’re falling into someone elses dreams? All this is just theory/speculation as it will always be when dealing with metaphysics and parapsychology of this level.

A theory is every time we sleep we slightly are out of tune without bodies in a unconscious state but through Lucid Dreaming and projection we become aware and can reach higher levels or planes/focus levels. We float (our energy, astral body, dream body, whatever you want to call it) just above or below our physical and we become aware and more in control of it as we LD or AP and especially when we make ourselves more aware of this as time goes on.

One thing to note is that it might take a longer time for another dream to cross into another ones dream if at all possible. Especially for most a lucid dream is only a few minutes so not enough time for a real entity to come in/out especially one might know. I’ve called out names of deceased people in my dreams and before I can even get a reply I’m awaken again.

One belief can be the entities s we meet are when we lucid dream and find ourselves in a landscape not familiar to us are either cross over dreamers or disembodied persons we either stepped upon in their realm or they somehow came into ours. I had a LD this afternoon while napping. The DC was on my front porch and I said you’re not real this is a Lucid Dream. The DC just said something I didn’t even understand and I ignore it. I believe it was a DC and nothing more (she said her name was tammy).
I had an LD about a week and half back where I was in this park I had no clue where or what it was because I never seen it before. Woman were walking around with strange clothing and they looked very aware. I went up one walking and I said for fun “This is a dream, and you’re not real.” And she said “You’re not Lucid. You’re one plane above it and you don’t belong here.” And it was like a wind just knocked me out of the dream and I woke up.

I notice some LDs you can change things around and it seems very fantasy like. Others are very serious, real looking, and you can not change anything around and the people seem to be real mirror images or real people that are bounded by cosmic laws.

Its just hard to say. Obviously if the person in your dreams is alive and awake when you’re sleeping and dreaming of them they are a fantasy created image or double. However if the person is someone you never met before or deceased or alive but sleeping and seems confused than maybe the person is another astral traveler or lucid dreamer that crossed into your dreams. Take notes, keep a journal, and keep an open mind. If something seems not real it probably wasn’t. If a LD seems odd like you’re talking to some guy and he says “how did I get here?” and he’s dressed like it’s 1915 than you might have a cross over spirit somehow get into your dreams . I don’t know…it’s all theory and speculation. Its up for each individual too decide what may the truth or fiction at least to them in regards to the conscious mind and any higher status it might obtain metaphysical wise. My advice would be is too look at LD as an art, take it serious, and try to explore and learn from it as you would do would say learning how to paint or play the piano or how to become a theater arts actor/actress.

Not really :) I personally care less about my appearance in LDs or OBEs... quite often I'm naked. There are more important things than appearance.
