      Flying... in real life

Ok so I wouldn't believe this if somebody told me... but anyways it happened and I cannot explain it.

Yesterday in my Philsophy class we had a Native American medicine man come in to talk with us. He was telling us how when he was a kid he would have epileptic fits and have visions during them. He said in his visions he saw that he could do anything he wanted... He told us that one time when he was a kid he went to his garage where there were many heavy boxes... but by placing his palms on them he could shift them back and forth. His mom came in and was amazed that he had moved them all.. she asked him how he had done it and he replied that he could do anything...

He said he then told his mom he could even fly. He climbed on a ladder and his mom screamed causing him to slip and fall on his head.

At this point my entire class burst out laughing... and he said "yeah, so it took me a while to learn how to fly" and he went to sit down on the teachers table... he hopped up on it and levitated with a big smile on his face for a moment and then landed sitting on the table....

So this may have been some magic trick or whatever but is seemed real... just wanted to share.

I remember back in elementary school where this guy came in to demonstrate some magic tricks for us at an assembly. for one of his tricks he had a plank set upon two chairs. He asked a girl to come up and lay down on the plank. Once she was up there and flat on the plank, he removed one of the chairs and the girl was levitating, or so it seemed. Quite amazing, but I think it was a magic trick, a dream, or the guy was really amazing. You're either seeing things or he was an alien.

Are you sure those are the only explanations? What about:

      6. He really did levitate
      7. He induced them all into a trance that made them think he was levitating.
      8. The poster doesn't exist and this was all a random computer malfunction.
      9. You are the only conscious being in the universe and you made this all up in your head.
      10. You're an over-confident, closed-minded empiricist who thinks he knows everything.
      etc...

I've tricked people into thinking I've levitated before. It's a magic trick. I learned it from David Blaine.

haha! I've seen a cheesy way where somebody would say "Hey, I can levitate! Look!" And then they'd do the one foot lift-up thing.. not too convincing.. is that what you do? or is it some way cooler way?

When I was a little kid and we went over to a circus, and there was this magician guy and he needed a volunteer from the audiance and make them levitate, and out of all people I was picked out. I dont remember much of it, I didnt feel anything. I had to close my eyes and lay down on something, cant remember what it was exactly either and then he made me levitate and everybody said it appeared like I actually was. That was some sort of trick of course, but pretty cool though.

As for this guy, I have no idea

They say dreaming is dead and noone does it anymore. It's not dead, it's just been forgotten, removed from our language. Nobody teaches it, so nobody knows it exists. .. waking life

Nina got it. You can indeed trick people that you are levitating (see balducci levitation). And, indeed, magic tricks do seem real.

He was telling us how when he was a kid he would have epileptic fits and have visions during them. He said in his visions he saw that he could do anything he wanted... This is like background. The guy performs a magic trick that seems real so you think "Hey, he's right" and immediately everything else he says is true, or it helps extinguish any doubts you might have about the levitation.

yeah but he hopped backwards in the air... both feet visiblely off the ground. arms folded over his chest... and just levitated... there was no set up like two chairs or anything... he came into the class with the teacher after most of the students were there (and a class had been in the room before) so i doubt he set up before hand... there were no wires... planks of wood ect... And he did it in such a way that wasnt like "look at me i am levitating.." it was more subtle then that... I dont know if it was real or not but... it was cool.

No wires are required in the balducci levitation. But really. Where were you sat? It all depends on so many things you probably can't remember that we wouldn't even be able to reliably speculate in depth about it. It's intresting but yeah. This reminds me so much of my monitor right here. It's got a stick which connects it on the back. If I move my head up a bit higher, so i cannot see the stick from underneath the monitor, it looks completely like it is floating. Just, suspended in mid air. I'll take a photo soon, when the camera comes back.
