Recurring nightmare (lucid for the first time)

Yes I just quoted myself to start a new thread. But I kinda wanted a the perspective of those of you who like to post on this Beyond Dreaming section. Mostly because I'm interested in everyones opinion and the opinions from you guys tend to differ greatly from everyone elses on DV.

thanks in advance for any input

Last night I had what was probably the most interesting LD I've ever had. Ever since I was really little (8 or 9 I think) I have been having this recurring nightmare of a Minotaur (hence the avatar). The dream begins with me crouched down in a forest where almost all the trees are dead or dying. It's snowing lightly and its the middle of the night but there is a full bright moon, so it's dark but I can still see. I'm crouched down feeling at the ground/snow. After a few seconds I look up and see a Minotaur, he has very dark brown hair, I would say black but I can make out a hint of brown when the moonlight reflects on the frame of his shoulder. I can see larg breaths coming from his nose in the freezing air. We always stare at each other for a few seconds, then he growls under his breath, I become afraid and take a small step back. When he sees me step he roars LOUD... it's go time... I turn and book it. Sometimes I run for a few seconds and other times it feels like hours, but every time I wake up while running.

I haven't had this dream for almost a year, but before that I would have it about 2 or 3 times a month. Every time I've had this nightmare it was very vivid but not lucid at all, but last night for the first time ever I had this nightmare while 100% lucid. I'm just wondering if anyone has a similar story or if anyone has an opinion on what it might mean (if anything)

      DREAM:

      ME
      MINOTAUR

I'm staring at the ground and I reach to grab a hanful of dirt. When I feel the cold ground falling through my fingers I realize I'm dreaming and that I've been here before, at that point I'm completely lucid. I look up and see the Minotaur. We stare at each other for a few moments like normal, then he growls, but I don't step back this time.

Who are you? Why do you always chase me?
Why are you asking? You never say anything. Wait... you're in control. Why are you in control?!
What do you mean? I've been working on getting control JUST so I can talk to things like you and figure out what the hell you're thinking. Just tell me what the hell you want?!

Then he roars again but it seems louder than normal. He starts to run towards me so I turn and run and he begins to chase. As I'm running he yells

If you come here again there wont be any talking.

Then I woke up. Obviously any opinions would be welcome

Had 2 dreams last night. Neither of them had the Minotaur but both dreams had malevolent characters that mentioned the Minotaur. I'm thinking maybe I should start a DJ her on DV in addition to my handwritten one so you guys can get a better idea of the situation. What do you think?

Well that's the plan, but I've only seen him once while lucid so far, normally it's just a nightmare where I had no control. And honesly I'm feeling a little weird about this whole thing, not too sure just willing him away is going to work. I can't really explain it but I get the feeling that i dont have control over him in that kind of way.

I have the same trouble except my "demon" is a pseudo-human named willie nelson who looks nothing like the real willie nelson. I see him and he torments me everytime i lucid dream and ive been trying to kill him for weeks now...I think you should make him appear and try killing the minotaur or try to win him over to find out his real intentions...just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm up for any solutions at this point. I don't think "winning him over" is an option though lol. My plan now is to complete my transformation into the character I envisioned for WakingNomads's RPG. If I can become that before the next time I see the Minotaur then I might have a chance.

I also plan on questioning his "minions" (that's what I'm calling them) next time I see one of them. I'm seriously considering starting a Dream Journal on this site so you guys can understand what I'm talking about. Perhaps sometime tonight or maybe tomorrow I start one, but my first post will have about 6 dreams in it becase I'd like you all to know what's BEEN goin on as well as what will happen from now on. I'm just a little lazy at the moment lol.

Thanks for your input and for paying attention in general guys

I think you should start a dream journal. Maybe we could help you figure out a solution to your problem, and I'm curious about your situation. Besides me, and now you, I have never heard of anyone else having this sort of problem.

I think you should continue to attempt to speak with it, or else you may never understand it's purpose.

Well like I said I'm up for anything. But if you read the dram you would see that when last we met he told me that next time I met him in the forest there wouln't be any talking. I'm not completely new at this but I am still a LITTLE new so im really confused by the Minotaur's behavior. It seemd like he had seen me before and that he was surprised/upset that i had become lucid. Seems like odd behavior for a DC but like I said I have much to learn, maybe theres something I'm missing and this is more normal than I'm aware.

Had the Nightmare again last night. I became lucid as soon as felt the cold dirt in my hand this time, pretty much right at te beginning of the dream. He just looked at me with an angry look on his face and. I tried closing my eyes and and telling myself "when I open my eyes there will be no Minotaur" didnt work. Then I tried ignoring it like Nomad said (the ignore test) I turned my back to it and looked up at the moon and tried to focus my attention on the area around me, I pretty much just ignored it completely. After a few seconds of staring at the moon I felt a strong force smash into my back and launch me forward like 20 feet, the Minotaur rammed me. As I was getting up he started laughing. He said "If you're done trying your little tricks, can we get on with it? I dont want you here, this isnt your land anymore, its been mine for centuries and I fought hard for it, I dont plan on giving it back anytime soon. You must stop coming here. If you dont stop then I'll have to get rid of you in a more permanent way."

Then he ran towars me and I tried to dodge him but his horn got me right in my thigh. Seriously the worst pain I've ever felt, I didn't think you could feel pain like that in a dream, I felt like I was gonna black out from the pain. He said "If you keep coming back here you're gonna get yourself killed." then i felt like i did kida black out but i woke up.

      seriously need help here people

WOW! Well maybe the moon is the key. He only reacted after you started to focus on it. If you find a way to get there, maybe you could find out the key to defeating him. The only other way I can see you beating him is to kill him somehow. Maybe super powers? =D

Na I didnt really get the feeling that the moon was the key. It was just what I decided to focus on to ignore the Minotaur... he would have attacked me regardless im sure

You have to kick its ass.

You turned your focus away and forgot about it.

      He rammed you from behind.

      He's real.

You forgot that you have the power to kill him.

Long spears work well against charging beasts. Stab him in the gut, the rip his heart out and eat it. That, or give him a really big hug. Those are my suggestions.

When you defeat him, demand a gift.

Imagine doing all this in your mind as you lie in bed right before you fall asleep.

Ok I'm still not sure if I believe in this "real entity" thing but lets just say for now that i do believe... How did the Minotaur get into my dream and why? Especially since he seems to not even want me there

      I added emphasis.

The dream plane is another realm of existence. There is no real "your dream/my dream."

As far as how, that's easy. Open a portal and go. Why? That's for you to find out.

Apparently the land used to be yours, and you must reclaim it.

I also belive that the minotaur is a real entity. I recommend, you try to find out some stuff about the "land," and thereafter try to find the minotaurs weakness, as i don't think just using weapons are enough when you are a beginner lucid dreamer like you, and therefor haven't gotten that much control over anything.

Didn't have the dream last night but I had a lucid. i was standing in the middle of a baseball field I used to play on as a kid. When I became lucid i worked on manifestation. It was pretty cool actually, I've had plenty of lucids before but in this 1 I felt particularly in control of myself, it kinda felt like I was awake and actually on the baseball field, only reason I knew it was a dream was because the sky was green not blue. i was able to create a dagger. It was odd though, I couldnt just create it, I had to grab a stick off the ground and I fored it to become a dagger. At first I tried closing my eyes and thinking "Im holding a dagger" but when I opened my eyes it was still a stick. I had to stare at it and watch it become the dagger (kinda seems backwards from what ive read from the way most of you guys do this). Once it started to turn into a blade I kepts changing it until it was exactly what I wanted. I kinda wish I would have moved on to creating other things instead of focusing on the dagger alone. Next time I guess.

Just thought I'd keep you guys posted on the progress

Awesome! Definitely a good idea to get the hang of that sort of thing before taking the beast on. I manifest things the same way.

Had the dream again last night, lucid from the start again. This time I thought I'd take the advice you all gave me and try to fight. I picked up a stick and turned it into a spear (did it pretty easily too (: ) but when I finished changing it, it shattered. The Minotaur started laughing and said "I thought I told you... this is my land now. You have no power here." So as always, I turned into a total wimp and started running. I woke up soon after.

Also... Should I keep posting here or is this becoming more of a Dream Journal kind of thing? Im not sure if I should start a DJ because I'm not planning on posting anything other that the dreams that have to do with the Minotaur.

Sounds to me like the minotaur is a part of your subconscious that is rejecting you. Definitely something that you have to beat/kill. I guess you just have to not give up...
I've personally met entities in my dreams that want to fight me and won't go away if I ignore them or whatever, but thankfully they seem to be trying to teach me something - even if I end up loosing a battle or being out-witted I am never subjected to any pain... I just loose and wake up.

      Good luck, keep us updated!

Hmm... It might be too late for this, but maybe you should try summoning a table and offering him a seat, then see if he will explain the situation to you. when and why he is there. Otherwise, you could try charging up the spear with energy, making it stronger and deadlier.
Also, you may be giving up too easily, if the first plan doesn't work, try to think of something else, stand your ground I would say.

with the dream journal, If you plan on continuing journaling (I recommend it highly) you should create one here, otherwise just post the dreams in this thread.

one last note, please take my advice with a grain of salt, I don't have a ton of experience with this kind of thing, just what I've heard from other sources, not much first hand experience.

I read something in Robert Waggoner's book on lucid dreaming the other night that i think may help. In the book, Waggoner mentions that your own ego may present itself as an enemy in your dream. He says that when we delve into the subconscious, the ego may not take that very well.
The ego and subconscious are your own however the ego is much more individual compared to the subconscious. Perhaps this entity is a presentation of that feeling of jealousy, revenge, and discontentment the ego might feel for losing its dominance its had for most people's entire life.
Either way, immediately attacking every threatening figure you see seems to be counterproductive. If it is your own mind, you have much to learn from this entity. Since you cannot physically die within the dream what use is it to destroy your own feelings? What use is it to ignore these feelings? I do think these things can be used and effective in some situations. I personally feel this entity seems an expression of your own psyche. You are at a depth from which is derived a choice: Stay, Retreat, or Advance. If this is where you feel you are as far as awareness of your subconscious self goes then perhaps this entity is in fact your ego presenting itself.

A couple ideas for you when you are in the dream.

      1. Use positive energy in the dream to communicate to the entity your intentions. Like Nomad mentioned, use intention before going to sleep to establish what you will do. Once you know the feeling you want to use (i would say positive/confident/power) then you can use that in your dream and maybe this diplomatic stance will help the entity understand you more.

      2. Ask the Minotaur where you are. He seems particularly sensitive about his territory yet there seems no way for you to leave. If you find out where you are and why this place is so important to the entity you could use this information to your advantage.

      3. Sacrifice yourself. Stephen Laberge suggests that some malevolent entities could be an expression of what Carl Jung called 'the shadow'. That is our dark side essentially. One must learn to embrace the 'shadow' in order to understand. Remember when it comes to yourself, don't try to conquer self for that brings frustration. Embrace self, accept self, then you will become one and be able to work things out from there. Beware though, if this entity is a negative representation of something that has hurt you in real life it may not be a good idea to give in to the entity; however this seems to be different.

I hope you get some good results from the suggestions we have made. It would be cool to hear a positive end to the story. Remember!! Do not allow yourself to be consumed by feelings; let them pass through you.
