Very specific precognitive dream, how can this be a coincidence?

In my dream i met a young woman i know walking her dog down the hill with her mom, the air smelled of spring and it was very mild.

A few weeks after i had the dream this EXACT same thing happened in the same place with the same people. Where i live its winter so you'd expect it to be quite cold at this time of year but when this happened it was a very mild day out and just before i ran into the girl and her mother i couldn't help but think how much the day felt like spring.

There must be something to this...

I have had another dream very similar in its ability to predict the future but not quite as striking as this last one.

Another thing like this happened to me a few years ago in math class. It was integral calculus and i was watching the teacher perform a very long calculation on the blackboard. All of a sudden a number popped into my head, i think it was 58.78 or something like that. The teacher finished the calculation and i could see that the number he got was exactly the same as the one i had "guessed". Same number. same number of decimal places. Same everything.

I was blown away. I starting looking around the room and acting very strange but i think most people were too bored to notice my amazement.

The only thing i can think of is my subconscious mind did the calculation itself and fed it to my conscious mind. Its too much of a coincidence for there to be any other explanation, especially since i was only half paying attention and don't usually try to guess at the answers to ridiculously long calculations.

I think the same thing is going on when we dream, but on a much greater scale. The subconscious mind picks up on all the things going on around it and formulates a scenario that will play out at some point in the future.

I picture the subconscious like a very powerful computer that can use the laws of nature to predict the future. Every now and then it will spit out and answer if we are clever enough to pick up on it.

The trick is knowing when it is trying to tell us something and when it's just nonsense.

Did you write down the dreams when you had them, or did you only remember them when the event occurred, weeks later? It's possible that it was just deja vu and not really a dream - it happens to me very often. If you had the dreams written down and the event happened afterwards, that's an entirely different story altogether.

Agreed. I completely understand what you're talking about here. That would explain a lot of the strange phenomena that happen to a lot of us.

I have experiences similar to the ones you described.

I've been able to accurately predict what people will order to eat and drink at my job, what kind of mood they're in before they ever say anything to me, etc.

I've dreamed about people I've never seen before, and then seen them the next day.

I've also had those moments where I've just kinda blurted something out, like for example, when I was about 9 or 10, my mom was trying to get us to memorize her cellphone number. We were in the car one day, and I just randomly recited her phone number, with no prompts or anything. My mom said "Uh, Krista, why did you say that?" I told her I didn't know, I had just felt like it, and she told me she was just about to ask me what her cellphone number was o_o. That is just one example though, I've had weird moments like that many, many times throughout my life.
      As we felt eternity,
      the water recalled her life
      as rain.

I've had a few of them. Most notably the attacks of September 11th (2 vivid dreams of planes crashing into buildings between Feb and July 2001) and dreaming about my brother severely cutting his hand (I spent the weekend at my fathers', came back to find he burned his hand by playing with the stove).

I'm not fully convinced that time is linear, I think sometimes we're able to see beyond what we know to be the present.

No i didn't record that particular dream but i know it was a dream, i'm 100% sure of that.

I do get deja vu a lot though...

I'm pretty sure time is linear. Entropy increases with time and that defines the direction in which time "flows". Cups of hot tea don't get hotter when left outside on a cold day. Libraries don't get more organized when a tornado blows through them. When you think about it there are really many more disordered states in any given system than ordered states. A hot cup of tea in a cold room is a very orderly state. All the fast moving molecules are centered in one place but as time flows the molecules, through random motion, disperse themselves throughout the room thus creating entropy or disorder. Its not that nature doesn't like things to be orderly (although this is strictly a human concept and the universe at large does not concern itself with such trivial matters) its just that there are so many more ways a thing can be disorderly than orderly.

      Fascinating stuff really.
