      Moved to beyond dreaming.

If you want my opinion I don't think it's possible.

Any reason why you don't think it's possible?

I don't believe that shared dreaming is possible. And even if it was how would you confirm that you had a shared dream with an animal? They can't keep a dream journal or talk to you.

I would love to meet up with my dog during a dream. I always tease him about it right before bed. I wonder what he dreams about? Sometimes I hear him barking lightly or whining in his sleep. I wonder if he ever dreams about me?

I always wonder what my pets dream about. If it was possible to shared dream with them I would love to do it. I assume it involves chasing squirrels or eating human food.

Well I've been reading about it a bit today and I was just thinking, if they dream, then why not, whether it can be confirmed or not is entirely different to if it's possible but yeah i see your point

First of all, you have to figure out if shared dreaming is even possible. If it is, it'd be a million times easier to try it with a human.
Second of all, I'd think that the make up of your brain affects the way you dream. For all we know, dogs and cats don't see images the way we do. The areas that are active and inactive during our sleep are going to be different for them. They could all be dreaming in a way we can't comprehend and if you were to share one with an animal, I'd expect it to be easier to do so with one that has a brain similar to ours.

Sharing dreams with animals is awesome. Cats like to dream a lot.

A prof in one of my biology classes in university once told me that only cats dream as humans do. So dogs don't ’dream’ really. SO they wouldn't share dreams. Try with a cat!

Many times I've felt the spirit of an animal in a dream, and interacted with it. And I know from many other experiences that this type of feeling has some objective reality to it. Whether or not an animal can reach a human in dream and be conscious of them at the point in time, or whether you can experience an animal's thought, I don't know. There's such a big gap even between the thoughts of different people, with their motives and perceptions being very different, so that its hard to form an image of someone else's thought that makes much sense.

I'm not sure I believe the assertion that dogs don't dream. I'm pretty sure I've seen dogs dream, with their eyelids moving, and other related involuntary muscle spasms. Granted that cats dream a lot more than dogs, since they spend so much of their time asleep.

From my own experiences as well as what I've read, animals are more telepathic and therefore easier to share thoughts and dreams with than people. Though some people might have a natural affinity for communicating with people, animals, or whatever else. I'm not good with people. I'm great with animals. Cats do seem to be natural dreamwalkers.

I've had a couple very insightful dreams with my cat in them. I do not remember the content off the top of my head, but it did make me question if my cat influenced my dreams.

On several occasions (5-7) I experienced extremely real tactile hypnogogic hallucinations - as if my cat is walking on my bed/blanket. I can trace his every step, as his paws softly sink into the bed/blanket. The feeling originates near my legs and walks around clockwise. The first couple times I even opened my eyes (of course there was no cat). Now I'm kinda just aware of that. Those feelings never resulted in a dream/LD, and if I open my eyes, I'm wide awake. One thing that I never checked was if my cat was sleeping somewhere nearby.

In some older folk traditions, cats/kittens are allowed to enter an appartment before anyone else, since they are believed to be psychic/chase away evil spirits or something like that.

PS. At least the indoor/outdoor cats (like mine) are active at night ( so not asleep). While indoor cats sometimes sleep next to humans at night.

I'd like to think cats are expert lucid dreamers and/or astral projectors.

I was always more of a dog person, had a dog for 16 years but then we had to put him down. I never had a cat until recently, when I started looking after this beautiful stray. Just having her around I started developing the theory that cats are special because of the way they vibrate due to the purring. When she is laying near me and purring contently, it practically sends me into another dimension. She's like a motor. I imagine she must hang out in another dimension quite frequently, because I do think that tuning into vibrational frequencies is somehow key to existing in any dimension. I don't know, maybe the purring is just relaxing and calms me...even still, I feel like my brainwaves are distinctly different at those times, more like intense theta, and possibly more receptive to whatever else is out there. I've taken lsd a few times when she is around and I learned that I don't need to say a single word out loud. Cats are so deeply internal, they appreciate it if you can telepath with them. When I heard her voice for the first time, an adult female voice, I realized I sounded really silly talking to her like she was a baby. Once I started communicating with her like an adult, with respect instead of as a cute little furry cuddly thing, she was the happiest thing in the world and kept randomly walking up to my face and kissing me right on the lips. I know this is a bit off-topic, because the thread is supposed to be about dream sharing, but animal communication is just so fascinating. This cat told me her age when I met her (4 years old), which was exactly the age the vet told us when we took her to get shots a few months later. Before I asked her what her age was, I would have made the guess at around 1 maybe 2 years old only. But when I asked, she distinctly said "4". That was also how I learned she was a female. We had all been referring to her as a him, until I heard her voice.
