      These are a few suggestions:

      1. If you try too hard you won't be able to have one. Just relax and let it happen.
      2. Take a break from trying and start again a few days later.
      3. If it's not that important to you, stop altogether. If it is important then keep trying.

If you want this to happen don't give up! Just remember to try not to force it. Relaxation is crucial!

      Good luck!

I have been trying for nearly 20 years to come up with a technique to induce regular OOBEs after having a distrinct, real and a bit scary experience when younger. I studied books by Sri Paul Twitchell for several years, tried meditation techniques, etc. Nothing seemed to work reliably. I tried so hard for so long and then just gave up. Then in mid 90s it just happened. I don't know how "real" it was other than it felt extremely real. It was scary and exhilarating and ended soon. The sensation was distinct and separate from dreaming or even LDs.

I've been able to have a few more since then, and have got past any fear. But I have not mastered regularity. I tried techniques such as imagining an etheral body floating above oneself then transferring consciousness into that body. I've imagined a rope above my head and then imaging my etheral arms grasping that rope and pulling me up outside myself. These techniques have worked for me but I can't get them regularly to work.

It's been hard to escape the stresses of a busy professional life, family life and other worries. It has been hard to put on hold rational thinking. For a long time I wanted it to happen, to travel to a place and find proof to prove that I was actaully way from my body. It was like I was conducting an experiment on myself. As I have abandoned the faith of my upbringing and stopped worrying so much about what, if any, world exists beyond what appears tangible, I have been able to have more satisfying OOBEs. Whether I actaully go to anywhere separate and distinct from myself I don't really care. The experience FEELS as real as reality and that is enough.

Now if I could only figure out a reliable way to induce these experiences when I want.
