OBE poll =)
Haha I'm sure this has been done before, but I really can't resist, hope nobody minds!
People always talk about OBE's, but it seems to me that they're basically practicing WILD's... and sometimes, instead of stepping into a dream, you have a false awakening... and sometimes, you have an OBE. So it sounds to me like an OBE is just a type of dream that occurs as a common side-effect of induction techniques... like a regular third person dream or something. As someone with a more scientific mind, I can't seem to find justification for seeing it otherwise :). What do you guys think about it? (once again, sorry if it's been done to death)
-
I am assuming it is just a wacked out WILD until someone proves otherwise to me. I'm not saying that OBE does not exist, but so far, nobody has shown me any subjective evidence.
-
I guess this kinda borders on General Discussion, but OBE's go in Beyond Dreaming, so I'll just plop it in there. Either way I left a link in general discussion to the topic so the best of both worlds is available to you.

It seems that if you ever truly left your body, if you could actually have a system for percieving things, your perception would be of an entirely different order and the world would be percieved in a completely alien format because you would not be using eyes and ears. You would be using something/s entirely different. Is that what happens?

the first one
An interesting manifestation nonetheless. There have been times where I actually felt like I was being dropped from my dream back into my bed. But I do not believe it's my spirit fliting about in dreamland, then returning to it's slumbering shell. It's just a fancy LD.

Maybe
I think that our minds are capable of many things that we are unable to fully understand at this point.
It does not seem like a far stretch to me that our consciosness, as illusive as it is, could navigate to another level. Using our physical bodies as a carrier.
I certainly don't have any evidance of this but I also feel that if we close our mind to the mear possibitly of OBE's that it ofcoarse could never happen.
And if it were possible, I am not sure how one would navigate through such an event.
I would like to find out.

Awfully biased poll isn't it?
No third option. I personally believe that the capability of human concioussness is endless, but I don't believe you can be "trapped".
I wonder how many people participating in this poll have had a definite OBE?
I mean vertigo, vibrations, and that Real Time Sight.
The difference between LDing and OBEing amazes me. Although there are some that propose that dreaming is simply a function of the concioussness transcending the physical and being unconciously in the astral.

Yup Im kinda impartial between the two I for not since Im not 100% sure then I would say its more of a WILD than anything. But maybe the line is thin between the two and the journey only takes one simple thing to alter the two sets to seperate from WILDing. Maybe its something we just can't simply grasp.
-
Well, I have always believed in the supernatural, so I'll go with the albeit unpopular second answer.
-
Hehe sorry, I didn't mean for the poll options to sound biased, I was just being melodramatic. Really, it should be "a special, common side effect of WILD / just a LD" versus "not just [option a]"
-
A bit biased because there were only two options. Although I lean towards number two having had and researched OBEs extensively, I am still a little unsure of the subject.
-
I'm leaning towards the 'whacked out LD' for now, having no reason to believe otherwise.
My views are open on it, should new evidence turn up ;)
