      DMT and Lucid Dreaming

I don't know if this is the right place for this thread but if it needs to be moved, go ahead. No search came up for DMT so if there is already a thread about this then sorry.

For those who don't know what DMT is I'll explain a bit about it briefly. Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a chemical that is found in plants and mammals, including humans. It can be extracted from plants and used as a drug (smoked or injected) to produce powerful but short (about 15 minutes) hallucinations and cause OBE/Near Death Experience/Abductions/Other Dimensions among other experiences.

So I've been quite interested for the past few days about DMT after researching some information about our Third Eye (Pineal Gland) which is where DMT is produced in our brain and is thought to be the cause for dreaming. It is also recorded that we release a large amount of DMT during two stages of our life: Birth and Death. This is what explains the "light at the end of the tunnel", "heavenly experiences", "life flashing before your eyes" from people who have near death experiences.

I've been reading a book called DMT The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman. I haven't gotten very far in it and just looked at some of the research and experiences from the volunteers. But from what I've read in there and online it has piqued my interest and got me thinking about how a lucid dreamer may experience a DMT trip, since the trip may actually be a forced vivid dream.

I have tried DMT once a few years ago, before I knew about lucid dreaming. I had no previous experience with hallucinogens except for marijuana, which I don't really consider a hallucinogen anyway even though it is classified as one. I didn't have a large enough dose to experience the full out of body experience that is most common with users, but I did notice a sort of pull, like a shifting in my consciousness. When I closed my eyes I experienced very vivid colors and geometric shapes kaleidoscoping behind my eyelids. I also noticed a strong vibration through my body, a sinking feeling, and heard a high pitched buzzing sound. This is very common with people who use it so I wasn't too surprised by it but it was still a freaky experience. I kind of blacked out for a few minutes until my friend who was watching got my attention. I think I may have been in some altered state during this time but I have no recollection of it. When I opened my eyes, his face was very distorted, colors were vibrant, the scene around me was changing and vibrating, and within about 5-10 minutes everything was back to normal, but I was in an enlightened mood that lasted throughout the day.

Thinking back on this experience and after reading through the research and information about DMT, I've come up with a few ideas about it:

First, I was noticing how these sensations during the onset of the trip very closely related to what people say about how WILDing feels. I'm inexperienced with WILDs so correct me if I'm way off. I'm thinking that when you take DMT, it is sort of like a forced WILD; you maintain your consciousness while you are being thrown into an altered "dimension". Now I believe this is just because the drug uses the same parts of your brain as the dream state so it has the same effect. And when someone WILDs they are just aware of that going on as they are entering a dream.

Another thing I was thinking is how a lucid dreamer might experience this trip. If the DMT trip is actually just a forced vivid dream with certain hallucinated aspects from the drug (and I don't even know if it really is "just a dream", that is just an idea I had), would someone who is skilled in lucid dreaming be able to realize this and possibly have control over what is going on?

Also, when tripping on DMT, the brain is in a very similar state to those of people who are in a trance or meditative state, where the pineal gland may be very active. Could opening our "Third Eye" cause more release of DMT and be the reason for heightened awareness and enlightenment? I've been reading up about the pineal gland and practicing how to activate it and may have actually had a brief experience with it; vivid visual of a purplish eye and starry vision when my eyes were closed, throbbing in my forehead, very calm and aware, common experiences for those who have opened their third eye.

Now this is where I want to hear from people who are informed about DMT and may have tried it. If you are a lucid dreamer and have tried DMT I would really like to hear your input on this and possibly answer some questions.

If you've tried it, what was your experience like?
Were you into Lucid Dreaming when you tried it?
If so could you become lucid and control your trip?
Do you think the DMT trip is just a vivid dream?
What do you think about the relation between the pineal gland, dreams, and DMT?
Have you tried opening your "Third Eye" and what experience do you have of it?

Even if you haven't tried it or know little about it I'd still like to hear your input on this to see what you guys think about it. I've tried researching about DMT and dreams and there is a correlation but I haven't seen any information about experiences from Lucid Dreamers. Once I get more skilled at lucid dreaming I intend to obtain more DMT (it's hard as hell to find though) and try for myself to see, but for now I'd like to hear what you guys think.

Anyway thanks for reading and I hope I can get some good responses from people who are more knowledgeable and experienced about these types of things. I think this is a very interesting subject and would love to know more about it. I'll keep researching and if I find anything I'll post it here.

      Edit:
Ok so I did another search and found a thread similar to this where the poster relates DMT with Lucid Dreams. The people who commented go over some of the same things that I went here sort of confirming them and one person states how they could kind of control their trip to an extent but it made their trip end. I would still like to hear from people who are still active and have more knowledge of this.

Here is the old thread if you want to look over it:

I've never tried DMT, and I don't see that changing at any point, but I've read about it a fair bit. First thing is, from what I've read it's not all that much like a lucid dream; that is I don't know that you could become 'lucid' and control it; I suppose it could be possible though, I don't really know. Second is that, totl the extent of my knowledge, there has never been any solid evidence that DMT is produced in the human brain. As for the rest, I'll leave it to someone who knows more about this stuff.

There are a ton of threads about this already. Try searching for Rick Strassman, the spirit molecule, or dimethyltryptamine...b/c our search doesn't work on three letter words or acronyms (like DMT) unfortunately, so people make threads about this all the time and there are just too many. Closed.
