On Finding a Dream Guide or Spirit Animal to Teach You While LDing.

I just answered a question that someone PMd me. I will post it in this thread for anyone else who is intersted. Also if anyone else wants, please tell any techniques that have brought you good results.

Here are my suggestions on how to start. These lucid skills may be allready something you can do, or you may need a lot of time to build them.
      1) develop a dream voice. Not just thinking and having DCs respond to your un voiced words. Start with a simple sylable like the word 'Hey!' When you stop to stablize set a goal of yelling 'hey' very loud and having the sound be something you can actually hear.
      2) get to wear you can white out the scene. Think of the first Matrix movie and the training matrix. You need to be able to make objects and DCs fade into the white back ground.
      3) learn to pay attention to the distortions you will notice if you try, in the construction of the dream. Look at a tree for instance. Try to pick up flaws in the picture. The air is all warped, or the tree has a halo.
      4) Remember that the guides will not be to willing to take you as a student if you are acting out all crazy and lustful or violent when they watch you. They probably will watch you for a few months or a yeear before they make up their minds on helping you or not.

Ok, here is how you can combine these things to have your first encounters with spirit guides and animals. Practice your control and stablizing skills until you have a clear voice and can make most DCs and objects blur out, or just erase them. Now when you go to sleep use a mneumonic mantra like "I am ready for a guide." when you get into an LD each time you stablize call out to the far hills or the sky, some thing like "I am ready!!!" You should be able to really hear it loud and vividly. This will eventually attract attention to you. If a guide or totem animal responds, it may follow you and cause you to feel paranoid. Put up with the creepy feeling of being watched and just keep calling out everytime you stablize.
Now, when you feel something in your dream that may be a guide or animal totem, erase thescenery using the whole matrix white room kind of trick. The entity is likely creating a wall or tree to watch you from, take it away. So youtry to erase the scene and a fox, or man, or whatever may appear. Try to erase them. If theyare real you willnot do much more than cause them to ripple a tiny bit. Now lookat them while trying to see the random dream distortions. They look different than DCs. You have to be there and see onebefore you will know what I mean. Watch for them to make eye contact. My DCs almost never make direct eye contact with me, but entities almost allways do.
If they make eye contact, you have done it! There is a special magic in the eye contact. Now say out loud something like "I'm ready" or "teach me." If they run away or try to hide again, don't push it, just know that they are still not sure about you yet.

Thanks, Sivason. This is really helpful. There is actually a synchronicity in your post that leads me to believe that I may have found my DG. I recently have begun seeking my Dream Guide. At the time I made the decision, I was having 1 to 3 lucids every week very regularly and progressing in my dream skills. It's been a little over a month since I began seeking my DG and I have not had one lucid since, only some semi-lucids. Although, there are other factors effecting my lucidity, I almost feel my lack of lucidity is a test on my skills and tenacity that I must overcome before I am ready to be trained.

Twice this past month, an old man has appeared in my dream - once in a non-lucid last night and once in a semi-lucid. The first time he appeared, he was actually giving a class to teach me dreaming skills. During the class, he placed this strange hat on my head that he said would teach me Tibetan Dream Yoga. Immediately, I began slowly spinning around. A white light began emanating from my third eye. My dream teacher said I would enter what Tibetan Dream Masters call the "pure white light of awareness". The light from my third eye enveloped everything, even my dream body fell away. I was then just pure consciousness in a white void, something I had never experienced in a dream before and sounds like your "white out."

Good technique! I found mine by saying "I am ready for a guide" or something as well

It definately sounds like you have found one! You will progress so fast with his help. You just reminded me of something I had wanted to say above but had left it out. Your exerience makes it maybe even more likely it is a true dream guide. They do have the ability (at first) to make you more or less lucid and to enhanse or remove your ability to do dream control. They really seem to like challenging people, and use all sorts of various methods, including taking certain options off the table, like being able to change the scene.

I met my spirit animal some years ago, I can comunicate with him even awake, but sometimes I feel I'm just making it up and feeling crazy even though, I know the feeling is distinct, and not something I'm making up, it's more like tunning into his energy frequency.

I don't find that strange at all. I have one dream guide who has instructed me for about 18 years. He sometimes does make contact when I am awake. I am not a crazy hippy type and am an upstanding respectable member of my community. Of course, telling people you have a dream guide who contacts while you are awake, is not a good idea, unless they are the type to understand. When he wants to contact me I sort of go into a dream in a split view with reality. I see everything in waking life normally, but a dreamish sequence starts running in the background while he tells me what ever he thought was so important. Sounds crazy, but it is real.

      Interesting.
A few days ago in a lucid dream I was looking for a dream school where I could learn how to be a better lucid dreamer. I felt like a presence was following me and watching me. It made me very nervous. I said something like "I just want help and guidance, and I don't want to bother anyone." The presence seemed to go away and I soon woke up.
I wonder if that could have been a potential guide.
      It's all in your head.

Sounds like it to me. Remember, they like you to ask for their help, justt like you did. They may take weeks or months of testing you before anyone flat out approaches you and explains anything, keep saying stuff like that out loud.

Funny story: Around 1993 I got thrown out of a dream school, through the window, that is! I had met a dream guide about 2 years before after a year or so of being observed. She was a very strict and harsh older woman. I was being allowed limited access to a dream (astral) plain, where she would watch me try to interact. I came upon a building and could tell something was going on so I watched through a door. The scene was in a feild of white, like the training ares in The Matrix. The set up looked Asian with the teacher up front and students on the ground in formal lines. I decided to change my appearence to match the style of dress and as politely and quietly as I could, I went in and sat in the last line and started to listen. Everyone went quiet. The instructor was staring right at me and looked irritated. Suddenly two of the student grabbed me. They drug me to a window that suddenly appeared and throw me out it. I woke up after that.
