The pattern crazy brain, in barely concious mode

I can't help continuing to notice trends in my conciousness that I have at very low levels of conciousness. I've noticed that my brain connects to very distant things in a way, that seems to only make sense while I am at a low level of conciousness. For example, on the bus to mexico I continually fell into a low level conciousness bordering on sleep, because it's hard to truly go to sleep with so much noise and such.

On the bus I was reading a book about chess and here is a pattern I had while at a low level of conciousness.

All of our seats on the bus were the chess board, and we occupied different pieces, and our various feelings and moods decided the attack on our oppenents. Extremely odd. I have these often during the school year when I am in a zombie like state sitting on the toilet about to take a shower. I practically fall asleep and fall into that twilight zone of in between conciousness and have really odd patterns like, something connecting the insignia on a soap with piano keys.

I find it really interesting to observe, I should write them down, because I have them all the time. It makes such sense while it happens but then when I remember the pattern it makes no sense. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a real pattern just a strong sense of connection that my brain makes. Even though it doesn't make sense.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any thoughts?

Well I've experienced similar things in the line of having an understanding of something profound (in a dream or unusual mental state) - but afterwards not being able to make sense of it at all.

I've even attempted to write it down... and in my case words didn't do it justice either, and left me going 'Wha??'

There's 2 possible reasons for it that I can suck out my thumb :
1) The knowledge is so.. complex.. that words cannot describe. And one cannot understand it without being IN the state.
2) Perhaps we make delusional connections in mental states like that

I'm guessing this isn't unlike the knowledge 'gained' during some drug-induced trips.

I don't quite get what your saying... lol... but I think I do... strange I know... but nevertheless normal for me... anyhow... lol... I think I've had that before, not exactly sure but what happened to me might be what your talking about.

One day I was sick... and during the night when I was on my bed coughing and everything... I think I started to fall asleep... but I do remember that at one point I kept coughing... and something about my mouth movement and my cough sound being seperated... it's complicated to explain... but I guess it's linked with this feeling I sometimes get when people talk... as if the sound didn't really match their mouth movement or something like that. Anyhow that night I remember thinking "Oh yeah, so that's what happens *cough* the cough is really seperated from my mouth" or something like that. Weird I know...

Another day I found myself thinking about lines, and thinking "Oh yeah, if I put that line and that line with those other lines I can make that wall... and then with those other lines I can make that other wall" I found it pretty strange... but I think that's what you mean... it's never really happened while awake though... like on a bus or something... just when I'm about to go to sleep, usually when I'm sick... one day I found myself actually grabbing my blanket, going to my brother's bedroom, and throwing it on the room's floor and going back to sleep... then thinking "There that's better, I'll explain it to him tomorrow" the next day came and I couldn't remember why I did that....
