spiritual significance of music

Here I'm interested in people's insights on either of two somewhat distinct subjects:

1. Spiritually, what is music? There seems to be more to it than is obvious to me, and it seems important to things being the way that things are.

2. Sometimes when asleep, or when very relaxed, something like a signing telegram comes into my mind. Its like a 'thought' that has some kind of narrowly defined life and intelligence, and for some reason must express itself musically. I'm quiet and listen, and it plays itself, as if its playing my intuition like an instrument. It flies along at a set clip, then it concludes and its gone. I'll give a couple of examples. I heard a piano piece that expressed affection for someone named 'Anna'. I heard a somewhat mean spirited iambic poem taunting me about the vanity of my efforts. It said something about reaching my arm into the sun, and that just because I'm having and forgetting dreams doesn't mean I'll find him (the truth/daemon/entity). I think these 'songs' originate partially within my mind, but there is an external element also.

When I had a spontaneous awakening a year ago, the very core of my being was like a stringed instrument vibrating with the sound of the whole universe expanding and contracting It was so beautiful that I couldn't help but be in alignment with the 'truth, buddha, allah, god'. I was in such a state of rapturous awe that it felt like a rebirth, every single moment. There was no doubt that it was music, and that the whole of worlds, galaxies, universes were nothing more than notes in the symphony.
