Shared Dream- 5 year old son and I have the same dreams

Last month my then 4 year old son and myself woke up screaming from a nightmare. mine was being in a car and being shot at by an old man. told my husband to cover my child, but then saw a bullet pierce my sons chest and as the blood spread on his little white shirt, I woke up to the scream of my child. He was covered in sweat, shivering, he kept telling me a fire cat attacked him, he felt burning on his chest and could not take a breath. Later he told me my dream from his perspective. Two nights ago I had a lucid dream. I ll keep it short, at the end I was holding on to a large metal bell in what seemed a church tower, I held on as the large wave came over me, it looked like southern California coast. Had the dream again last night. This morning my child tells me he had a bad dream. he started explaning and wanted me to draw. what I drew was a giant bell on what looked like a well, and instead of a bucket there was a bell. my son told me he could not fly away when the water came so he had to hold on to the bell. I am completly freaked out at this point. if anyone has any advice, opinions, please help. not sure what kind of help, but anything is aprieciated.

      Hi, welcome to DreamViews!

That's quite an experience you have there. It almost suggests a psychic connection, though I have no experience in that realm.

If you want more professional advice it may be time to seek out a psychologist, depending on how badly this is impacting your and your son's life.

If you would like to look over the opinions here, I can suggest looking into the Dream Interpretation subforum, the Beyond Dreaming section, and the Help section.

Any of these sections will allow you to post your question to the right audience. Many of the people in them are experienced in answering questions in lay-persons terms or are directly knowledgeable based on their own life experiences.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to PM me or any of the staff if you want more assistance or you can't find the help you're looking for.

I think you are really tuned into each other emotionally, which is normal for a mother and her child. Granted, in your case, the connection is little stronger. I don't think there is any cause for alarm. Those were most likely just your dreams, even if bad dreams, and your chiled tuned into them. You could have had this dream from watching tv - plenty of violence there, and of course everybody worries about safety of his family. And who doesn't think about year 2012 (tidal waves, california), since there is a lots ot talk about it, even some movies. Good luck

      Thank you

Thank you, yes it could be from the news but I don't watch tv. Thank you for your help. I had dreams such as these when I was a child, only for them to come true as the civil war broke out years later. Even America, used to have dreams in which English was spoken as a toddler. Hoping your explanation is true with all my heart. I guess I ll stay in Arizona and avoid vacation in california just to be safe

Let's hope, that the bad dreams are not premonitions. About your dreams of your loved ones being hurt - even if that was a glimps into the future, it was perhaps glimps at only one of the possible futures. I don't believe, that our future is cast in stone. Maybe some basic outline and direction is, but not the details. I'm in California, but I have a rubber boat. So I'm safe. heh Happy dreams

I have noticed that my kids and I often have nightmares at the same time, but they rarely can remember what their dreams are about just that they were scary or bad. I read about a study once where they had people sleeping in one room, and people looking at certain pictures in another, and the art that the other person was thinking about and looking at influenced the sleeping person's dreams. I tried to find the study, but this link is the closest I found googling it ( Dream telepathy - experimental and clinical findings ) read under that part that says methodology for the experiment Anyways, your dreams being so similar reminded me of this because it seems like the same sort of concept. One of you must be having dreams that are influencing the other in a similar way to how these paintings were influencing the dreamers.

Well I just became a member cause as I was scrolling google to see if there was any relatable stories this one caught my eye
When I was a teen I always had a recurring nightmare my doctor told me it was normal to have recurring dreams as a teen that as you get older they stop
Well my recurring dream was a man chopping me up into pieces and me watching like an out of body experience I told this story to only my mother as a teen with concern and the last time I had the dream I was probably 20 years old and I told my then boyfriend (now husband) about it
Well just a few hours ago my 4yr old (almost 5) told me he had a nightmare of a guy chopping my up while him and his brother watched he also told me what the guy looked like our dreams are identical other than when I was a teen having the dream I was the only one watching where his dream he and his brother are watching ....I don't know what to think but it made me have a very uneasy feeling

When I was young, I would always sleep in my mothers bed during morning hours after my father left for work. It was always reassuring to be near my mother because she brought peace to me. Perhaps, sharing with your child on a regular basis whenever is normal would be healthy. Dreams are reflections of self, to be treated with attention and respect. As long as open communication is happening, I think everything comes to the surface eventually.
Unfortunately, my mother through her own fears pushed me and everyone else away for a long time. Dreams are a wonderful way to share yourself with others and no child should be cut off from their parents.
When anyone connects like this it is very special to me, and even more so with family.

On another note, I pick up others energy through dreams in very obvious ways otherwise I might pass it off. The dreams can be very interesting indeed.

Glad to see someone on DreamViews who comes from Ex-Yugoslavia and speaks my language. Dobro dosla na forum!

About these dreams, there isn't really much I could say what other people haven't already said. In any case, it is unnecessary for you to be worried about this. I have had so many negative dreams in my life which I feared would become reality, but then nothing happened. I don't think of these types of dreams as anything serious.

I would highly suggest, if you have some time on your hands of course, to start learning about lucid dreaming. This would help you tap into your subconscious, and also manipulate/control your dreams as you see fit.

      Best wishes.

Did a fire engine or ambulance run by your street, perhaps? It could have been the cause of the dream.

Its common for kids to have lucid nightmares at that age. The fact that you share the nightmare with him shows something about how close you are to him, but doesn't show anything about whether or not the fear is justified or not.

My recurring lucid nightmare at that age did eventually come true, but its not as if freaking out about it would have helped anything, and it was just a part of my life that I needed to deal with in any case. Other fears such as occur in such dreams do not come true though, or they are reflections of things you both feel which happen to other people, not to you or your son.

When my oldest son started having nightmares at that age, I told him to think about loving his brother, since the fear can't be there in the love. Also I suggested avoiding violent and scary pretending at preschool. And as he got older I tried to limit his exposure to things like the star wars cartoons, which I consider to be violent and dehumanizing. I don't forbid such things entirely, because he's got to learn to make choices about what he encounters in life. These approaches got rid of his bad dreams though.
