      Tarot or Astrology?

I was wondering if anyone was into tarot or astrology as well as LDing.

I have read tarot for a while and got quite good at it. I haven't done any readings in a while due to personal issues over the past few months though. And I didn't read the traditional cards either. I have a set of tarot cards that use ancient Egyptian symbols.

I have wanted to travel further in the realm of astrology, but haven't had the opportunity to fully commit myself to learning.

Anyways was just curious what if any others were interested in that didn't relate to dreaming or any type of kinesis.

      divining

this is a hard question, so i will say both are very useful.
Tarot is rooted in the Kabala rooted in ancient hebrew, egyptian, and islamic tradition.
Astrology is quite a bit more ancient, as the stars have always been there, but the modern interpretations seem less then adequate.,.
It can be said that the foundation of our knowledge of Tarot (especially egypt) is founded in TAU, which is ancient (20-80,ooo years ago) so our understanding of their Divining and Necromancy often gets crossed and confused give tens of thousands of years. so modern forms of each practice are very distorted.
      .
I think it is good you use them personally for dreaming, it helps much for understanding... but also, there are many modern over-looked forms of Divining that you could incorporate to make up for time's erosion of lore. Art, for example: a blank page where one draws from imgination, is a very pure method for understanding what is on one's mind. As is all art, music, and style of rhetorical study.... the way a person lives is a reading, in a big way.
      .
So, I like to study EVERY ancient lore i come across and apply them all twords lucidity. It makes for a much more potent magic, and a much more thorough understanding of ALL readings that can be done, no matter what the style or culture.
      .
All that being said, I appreciate individuality. If you are ok with yourself, and remember your life honestly, those will reflect the best reading. Tarot and astrology are equally useful and applicable to all other methods of divining. ^^ just watch out for self-fulfilling prophecies, stay true to yourself more then any method. hehe, i love both to let go of either one in favor of the other. the way they both help dreaming is phenomenol. glad you posted this

I have to admit I don't know much about tarrot card reading, but it just seems a bit nutty that a symbol on a card would have any direct and real meaning.

This set of cards doesn't contain any sort of "magic" when purchased from a shop. It has to be put in them. One can't claim to be "a fortune-teller" by just buying a set of cards. A real medium is (should be) capable of communicating with the Spirit(s) / future / etc even with a set of regular playing-cards.

I read the cards but I don’t have my deck yet. I’m looking for a very, very specific one—it was a deck that I saw over the summer. It called to me, but I wasn’t in the position to buy it so I had to pass it up. Now it’s become difficult to find. **sigh** I had hoped I could’ve had it by now so I could take it with me when I move overseas, but alas it will have to wait. It bums me out to no end though. =(

I can use other cards, but anyone who reads knows that it’s just not the same if you don’t have that deck that says “hey, use me!”. It’s like buying something for your altar… you can’t just toss any old thing on it. Each thing on your altar is a very personal adornment that’s specifically attuned to you and only you and adds to the overall energy. (For those of you unfamiliar with witchcraft, think of it this way: it’s like buying clothing that is comfortable, stylish, and fit properly as opposed to clothing that is tight, ugly, and uncomfortable.)

I also have an interest in astrology but I don’t have the ability to read the stars like some people do. I get a vague sense of things, but nothing really worth speaking of. It’s almost like watching a foreign film with the English subtitles off. I might catch a word or two here and there, but I can’t understand the context. When people come to me with astrology issues, I usually resort to the multitude of books I’ve collected over the years to help them out.

I feel that same way. My alter is adorned as some others but what I have is sacred to me and me alone. The set of cards I got just came to me, literally. An Egyptian medium friend of mine sent them to me. I did not tell her that I wanted them or that I was interested in anything of the sorts. She made them for me and just mailed them to me. And since then I have been connected to these cards in a way that I can't describe.

I get very uneasy when someone messes with them without my approval or consent first. The same with my alter.

I'm not too much into astrology either, I get a passing vibe every now and then but nothing to write home about.

I thank you all for replying to this without judgment and stating your thoughts and personal experiences on the matter.

astrology, i have no faith in that whatsoever.

i love the idea of tarot, but i can't say i have a huge amount of faith in it either. though its useful sometimes to stir up a new line of thought.

maybe if i got a new deck it would help:

      or

but i'm afraid that all the readings from this deck will go along the lines of: "I'm sorry, i've seen your future, and its a touch grim...."

Once in a great while, I read cards. I have four decks and once in a while LS borrows one. I tend to do pretty well with one of my decks. It speaks to me quite clearly. Astrology... I don't know so much about.

I found out that some indications of Astrology tends to pinpoint ones personality almost flawlessly then sometimes it's way off. I never believed in in Tarrot Card reading. I've always felt that the natuarl path conforms to you based off of what someone has told you allowing manifestation of foreign information to come to life.. If that makes any sense.

Yeah, I guess I can see how the H.P. Lovecraft cards could darken the reading a bit. XD All I can picture is that fortune-teller teacher from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: "You will die a grim and horrible death today!" LMAO.

I am very interested in Tarot reading, although I am still going through the practicing stage. My fiancee however is a wonderful reader as is my sister.

I wish you luck with your journey into the tarot. Practicing is all you can do to learn the art of reading. You have to be open minded, patient, and trust your instincts. I hope your fiance and sister can help you out in anyway possible, if you need further help or ideas give me a holler.
