Thread: Ghosts

The house I live in is over a century old. It, and the land on which it rests, has been owned by my family for generations. In the past my ancestors had used the land for farming and other agricultural business. One room in my house has even been used in the past as a temporary storage place for a funeral home. And, as morbid as it is, there has been more than one baby buried in one of the back fields who had died due to unfortunate birth complications.

My grandparents lived in this house before me, and they used to hire a house keeper for a couple of days during the week. I heard that this house keeper eventually quit because she had "seen something" in one of the rooms upstairs. My grandfather would tell us (My brothers and I) of seeing rocking chairs in motion in the attic when we were kids. So there are plenty of stories of strange occurances here.

I, on the other hand, have never seen anything ghostly. Although one evening upon returnig from the pub, I was about to enter my house when I distinctly heard a unfamiliar voice call out to me from the shadows near the doorway. He said, "Ken, is that you?" Kenneth is my father's name,and it was about two o'clock in the morning and I was alone. I said something like "holy shit!" and quickly entered the house. It would be impossible for anyone to mistake me for my father as he appears today, but I do resemble him as a young man.

I don't know whether ghosts exist or not, but I think halucinations or simple suggestive imagination could account for most ghost sightings. We can clearly see the power of our minds in creating sights and sounds in our dreams, so perhaps it is not as supernatural as it would seem.
