Perceiving the real world from inside the dream (accounts)

We got into a topic with my friend today, a topic about having our normal five-senses perception from inside of the dream, be it lucid or OBE. I'm sure all of us had it at one time or another.

What I'm talking about is when you hear something and it turns out to be real. Like a radio. Example: once I heard the sound of snoring in a lucid dream, so I woke myself up to check and found out that the person beside me was making that sound.

My friend is asking: how do we know if that's the physical body doing the hearing, or an OBE-body?

I believe there's no reason to assume an OBE-body, since the most common occurence of such stuff happening is sleep paralysis, a state between waking and dreaming, when your physical senses might function a little.

But I'd love to read your own accounts of such experiences. Be they auditory, visual, or whatever.

Well I was in this dream and I was walking down a road and I was breathing out my nose weird, sort of like it was blocked, I woke up and when I was breathing through my nose in real life it made the same sound which I was hearing in the dream.

Interesting, I gained lucidity this morning because I heard real life sounds or I thought I heard real life sounds, like the television, chattering or pots clanking in the kitchen. Perhaps the real life sounds doesn't match the dream so we know it's not part of the dream? During the lucid I had this morning, I could feel my real life hands when I was moving my dream hands too.

      variation on your theme

Once, while involved in a lucid dream, I heard the television relating dialogue from
a familiar movie. Being aware of the circumstances, I took on the role of the dominant
actor (Humphry Bogart) in a dream scene reflecting the movie. I found myself laughing
inappropriately at other characters who seemed to view me with confusion and anger.
Being Boggie, and knowing it was a dream, I got more and more outrageous til I woke
      up..... still laughing.

Thing is, I pushed the circumstances beyond credible....deliberately. The motive came
from within my physical existence...not an OBE. I'm not sure they're even capable of
      generating motives.

I loved the experience. Hope to achieve it again.

I'm new here....have much to learn.

It was winter, but hot in my apartment, so I opened the window by my bed just a crack. In the dream I could hear the wind and feel snow hitting my face. When I woke up, there was snow blowing in through the window and landing on my face.

I'd post a link to my DJ entry, but unfortunately my grandfathered DJ is unsearchable, which makes finding anything in it a real pain in the ass!

      Keep going!

I'll add some of my own to the collection.

      1. In a dream of walking in a forest, I heard a scary loud sound, as if somebody was snoring. The dream started to lose clarity, and I attempted to twirl in order to stabilize it. That didn't work, but after waking up I saw that the person beside me was making that snoring sound.

(these ones are a little different, they include wrong representation of the stuff in the dream)

      2. Walking along the corridor in a dream I felt a pang of terror, and trying to find its source turned around: there was a black shadow tailing me. It didn't look like it was my shadow. I started running and the shadow chased after me. Suddenly it started transforming into a loud scary sound. Out of fear I decided to wake up, but the sound kept following me, until I realized that it was a sound of a car passing by.

      3. I was dreaming about my apartment and felt a pang of terror. Following its source, I turned and saw a small gnome with batwings. It looked at me meanly and clucked its jaws. I felt so horrified that I decided to wake up promptly. After waking up I saw that an unfamiliar flower pot stood in the same place the gnome was.

(Why is it categorized as perceiving real signal? There was no flower pot before that, it was brought into the room after I fell asleep. I'm pretty sure that it was a distorted flower pot in the dream, probably my eyes opened in sleep. It was dark, so they saw a gnome.)

I don't know what it is with real signal and being scared, but it often happened like that. In general I'm a little on the nightmare side.

EDIT. Forgot sleep paralysis. It's less interesting.

Once in SP I heard knocking on the wall, as if neighbors were knocking. Out of SP they were still knocking.
