Bringing Dream Objects Back Into Waking Life

Okay, seriously, while I don't think this is possible, I have heard (on some youtube vid, I think, wish I could remember it, if anyone has a link, please share it) of some people who dream of an object and then FIND that object somewhere in waking life.

This just happened to me. Here's how:

In very short, I had a lucid dream in which I was fighting an enemy armed with a gun. I had a jackknife in my hand. The enemy was around a corner, and I threw the jackknife into a wall so that it deflected and hit him in the head, stunning him, and allowing me to win the fight.

Now the dream shifts. I am in a schoolyard, and a girl has this jacknife in her hands. She uses it to scrape the ashes off a partly burned old wooden sign, and reveal some runes beneath the ash. I recognize the runes as magical (elf runes?) though I cannot read them. I wake up

Then the weird thing happens. I go into my computer room, and find my old jackknife sitting on my desk.

Okay, I don't think it teleported there, or formed out of ectoplasm or similar. My desk is pretty cluttered and, though I have not seen that knife in a long time, I certainly was surprised to find it so quickly after the dream.

Possibilities:

1. Pure coincidence.

2. The jacknife was in my field of view, my subconscious noticed it in waking life, projected it into a dream, and that was that.

3. As 2 above, but there is some sort of mystical significance to the event. Not a physical object appearing from a dream into waking life, of course, but my subconscious guiding me toward this object for some reason.

It is interesting to me that the knife was significant in this dream, even as the dream changed, in two widely different manners: it helped me protect myself, and it revealed something unknown to me. Significant? I don't know.

Anyway, the way this guy in the youtube vid said dream objects were supposed to work was more or less like this: you dream about an object, later you find that object in waking life, and it has some sort of connection to you that aids you in your dreaming quest.

Please note that I tend to be very (though not dismissively) skeptical about this kind of "magic", but it was an experience that gave me pause. I saw this vid a long time ago, and certainly was not looking for a "dream object" (though, as an old D&D player, I would not say no to having my own magic dagger :) ), it just happened, and I was reminded of this.

Looking for other opinions, from the most skeptical to the most whimsical.

I'm not much of a skeptic, willing to believe pretty much anything. But, is it possible, that you saw your knife on your desk. But since it's been sitting there among other clutter as you say, for a while, it had "become a part of furnitre" and you didn't consciously notice seeing it. Then it appeared in your dream and you suddenly noticed it on your desk.

I would compare this experience to this:
You really thinking about something and suddenly you start noticing that thing everywhere - article in newspaper, add in a catalog, someone talks to you about it. The article and other stuff would have been there either way, but since you had that something on your mind, now you actually notice it. Just an idea.

They're all viable possibilities. As for three though, it wouldn't be a mystical occurrence, maybe you were just drawn to it by your subconscious.

Please don't misunderstand. I am quite sure that it had been lying on my desk, and I noticed it only after the dream. However, does this prevent it having some mystical significance? A sort of "maybe I need it now, or am ready for it now" type of situation? When I say "mystical" and someone else says that it's only the "subconscious", well, if all matter and energy are really thought, we might well be saying the same thing.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yes, i just had last night an incredible experience, about bringing a dream spirit of someone i know to waking life.
My dream guy was hugging me in the dream and kissing my neck while i wake up and still feeling him doing the same thing and kind of seeing him in real but he disappeared in a few seconds.
I was setting a goal to do this one day and finally i did.
It is mystical and great! i am happy i achieved it.

Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon

Yeah, I have heard of a few things like this. I believe you subconsciously noticed it before you went to bed, but anything is possible.

My friend came to school freaking out because he had a dream about a calendar and when he woke up, it was in his hand. When he came home he found out his mom put thr calendar by him when he was sleeping. XD sadly, I don't believe it's truly possible to being something back from a dream other than memories.

You really have no idea how much information your brain is actually picking up and storing without your awareness. Basically...everything. You should check out some of the research done on this, it is pretty astounding. Your mind knew exactly where that knife was all along.

No doubt, but the point is, does that destroy the significance of the event? Is it possible that my subconscious wants me to take notice of this object, for whatever reason?

Oddly, it may. That's how day residue works. That knife wandered to the "surface" as your dreaming mind was producing schema for your dream, and its significance might have been no more than it happened to be the image at the top of the pile at the time. I know that sucks a little, but it would be a reflection of natural dreaming processes, and nothing terribly mystical.

Of course it's possible. But even if your unconscious were sending you a signal to take notice of the knife, that seems to me like it was operating naturally, and not mystically.

Good idea. I think the phenomenon is quite real, and common, and understanding it might help lend some sense to otherwise odd coincidences.

While I do not see how the knife was needed in your life, I do think you could locate a long lost object in a dream as long as you saw where it was at some point and have forgotten. I know that can be done with meditation so a dream could probably recover an image burried in with a million other forgotten images. I do bealive in mystical powers like precog or ESP so I assume any power like that could manifest in the form of a dream.
