the "after we die we live on in a dream world without waking up" idea...

so i've heard of this idea or versions of it in a few places. the first place i heard it was the movie "waking life" over ten years ago when it first came out. i just re watched it and now i'm wondering: where does this idea come from? is there a religion that teaches this is the case or something?

the idea as presented in the movie is that death is wrapped in a dream. after we die we enter this dream in the same dream body that we use for dreams now, only we can never again wake up.

any background on this idea whatsoever would be nice. thanks.

Never heard about death being a dream. I have heard about Waking life being a dream, or both WL and afterlife being for real, not a dream.

Check out the movie "What Dreams May Come" it is kind of like that.

The idea is pretty much from Yoga, however, you can reincarnate after spending time in a dream realm. Yogic beliefs are that the very nature of the universe is dream like. If someone masters Dream Yoga, then they need not instantly and randomly reincarnate. The yogi can go on to other realms, spend time in dream states or reincarnate with much less randomness.
