Assuming you're not talking about near death experiences, then yeah.

Here's my take on it, if you've got a minute:

That tunnel of light, especially when conjured during a LD (but certainly during a NLD as well), represents to me a channeling of my thoughts, expectations, spiritual (thought) energy, and anything else that makes up the real "Me" into a single vent of light. That vent has to open on something, and, as tunnel-of-light mythology goes, that opening will be onto a place where you've never been before (aka: transcendental experience).

Sure, you say, but what about the water? Here's the thing: Transcendental experiences lie, by definition, beyond our ability to understand or explain them, so one of a few things might happen when you approach such a moment:

First, you succeed and transcend to a higher plane of consciousness. Most excellent, but because the experience defies (current) human definition, you will likely not remember ever having the moment, because your brain simply cannot assemble a usable metaphor to define the experience. That sort of sucks, but I like to think that we all have transcendent experiences regularly, and humanity just hasn't collectively grown up enough to appreciate them...maybe later.

Next, you are in extreme control of your LD, or under extreme control of your dreaming mind in a NLD, and your dreaming mind creates exactly what you expect to find at the end of the tunnel. Typically it'll be the standards, like heavenly gates, pastoral scenes stocked with dead family members and pets, maybe a futuristic city, also stocked with dead family members and pets, etc -- basically you get exactly what you hoped for, which, again by definition, nips the transcendental experience in the bud... but it is cool, and can be remembered fondly forever.

Finally, the water. Water is a powerful thing, archetypically, in that it represents many spiritual moods, and also represents the unconscious in most cultures (especially deep, calm water). So there you are in your transcendental journey down that tunnel, approaching the light. This time you've got most everything just right, and have been careful to leave too much glittery expectation behind. Unfortunately, you either aren't ready to transcend, or maybe just not interested today, so your dreaming mind scrambles to fill the coming void with something that makes sense -- to it. So it presents water. For me, it's usually a very deep lake, and I emerge from the tunnel well under the surface.

I hope that made sense. It does in my head, at least!

Thanks for the interesting question ...

i'm talking about the tunnels in OOBE's. some people call them vortexes. william buhlman says there are membranes like a cell wall between higher frequency realms that open temporarily during OOBE's of all kinds. lots of people report them during astral projections and certainly NDE's. i've just never heard anyone else report the end being filled water. not to say thats the end of the journey, just the tunnel itself.

Oh. Never mind then ... I do wish you'd said that before, and maybe saved me some time!

Oh, well. Good luck with the water, then.

^^ True, and all the more reason to try to be specific, I think, as "Beyond Dreaming" can mean many things.
