How to imprint your own impression onto the physical plane?

I know this is possible because I've done it in my dreams once. It was right when I was falling asleep, and I opened my eyes for some reason to look at the physical world, right as I was falling asleep. The visual physical realm and my imagined visual realm were completely merged. I believe it's kind of like a way to hallucinate naturally, as my thoughts/impressions were the basis for what I saw.

Also, as I believe these to be related, I'm trying to figure out how to change a 2d image into 3d. This also happened to me during a dream once. I was just staring at this 2d picture on my laptop, and suddenly my depth perception played tricks on me, morphing it into 3d. I believe it has something to do with diverging your eyes, like those old magic eye books, but I just can't seem to figure it out! My mom also told me once that when she gets bad headaches, everything around her turns 3d, like she'll be trying to read her book and then suddenly the words just pop out at her.

I'll try staring at a single point in a picture for a long time, and eventually lose peripheral vision to where some parts of the picture disappear before my eyes. Take this for example. Extend your hand and stare right off the point to where your fingers are pointing, and then change your focus from the tip of your finger to the background. You will notice a double image appear depending on which one you're not focusing on. I believe it has something to do with this visual phenomenon. I tried focusing on images using this technique, and I can begin to see them turn 3d, but my eyes quickly snap back to normal! I can't seem to get them to stay in that perfectly diverged state.

Once, during a deep open eyed meditation, the objects I was staring at on my bed completely morphed into something that they're not. I was able to imprint my own impression onto them, with only their previous shape and form staying intact. I can't seem to do it again though, and it took a lot of concentration!

Does anyone know anything about this/how to do it?

I saw this cool thing awhile back on how to do it, with any 2d picture. Like you say, like magic eye, in this technique, it's for those less gifted though, one takes two identical photos, place side by side, and do that magic eye thing, bam! now you have a 3d pic., perhaps you just have a natural gift? I imagine though that's not what you mean ...

Ugh. yes, familiar with that, I blamed it on tiredness+lots of intense reading+dyslexia=words floating on page.

It takes practice, you're exercising a muscle. I tried to do it real quick and analyze the process...what I got IMHO, is that when you are doing this technique(magic eye-soft gaze), you are um..not sure how to say this well, but you divide an image up into two copies, your brain is holding the images separately, then overlay mentally, like separate but together, then POP, 3d. There is a "sweet" spot, it takes focus to hold, but can be done.

IMHO, Playing with one's own visual perception can be tricky. I call it play, that's not to say you were playing. I don't quite understand this statement: "I was able to imprint my own impression onto them, with only their previous shape and form staying intact." but from what I understand, you realized that your internal state/thoughts affected your visual perception.

Personally I haven't played with visual perception much, and that which I have, I certainly lack adequate experience... I do think people do it often, although unconsciously, (which can be why eye-witness reports are tricky, etc.), but I digress, I have noticed that in my own perceptual play, as you have stated it does take a certain amount of concentration, as well as a particular state of mind per se, the closer to say "theta" the more "real" the play is, as well as the effects one is trying to achieve, if any at all. That's not to say one can't do the same in other states, but it takes a bit more umphf, or at least for me it does. There are other things at play as well, but as I've already written a novel, I'll stop there, plus it's not something one doesn't discover one one's own.

IHMO, I just recommend to continue to practice, experiment, test, and keep a journal.

Thanks for the reply! Hahah I wish it was a natural gift! I did it during a dream so I must have already been pretty deep in concentration. I can't seem to reproduce it in waking life tho! You don't happen to still have that video you were talking about that described how to do it?

Seems to be pretty similar to what I'm trying to do, but I think that was made with some special 3d technology like the magic eye things, where as I'm trying to figure out how to do it with any old picture. Is that pretty similar to the site you were referring to?

Yup, that's it. "Stereo Viewing," that's the key word,....okay....I did a search, and found some old time stereo viewers, I pulled up some stereo viewing cards, etc...I still can't locate that one link/tut., my google-foo is weak.... but the link you found gives a good idea on the process, if you scroll to the bottom of your link, there's the double photo side by side of that man, stare at it funny(like looking at magic eye), I noticed it took some finagling for myself really, where my focus wanted to lay on one image over another, or switch between the two, but when you balance the image, you'll get/make a third image in the center, the center image will "pop."

Another one is to draw two circles, side by side, one with a horizontal line, the other circle with only a vertical line, do the funny eye trick, till you get one circle in the middle with a plus sign. It's soo hard to do, but it's along the similar line of thought/physical sensation but with a very basic image.

Yeah that is pretty cool! But I wonder if that's really what I was doing in the dream. I don't remember going cross eyed or doubling the image at all, I was just staring at a single image on my computer screen, started to focus on it and then suddenly it developed a great deal of depth.

Stereo viewing is pretty neat, but it kinda seems like another gimmick like the magic eye things, not true hallucinating. I'm not sure though, can you apply this technique to our physical plane/other pictures, or does the picture need to be made using the special 3d stereo viewing technology to work?

And then that still leaves the question of what I saw that one day during my long meditation. Sorry you asked me to clarify about that one sentence and I haven't got back to you yet. What I meant was, like say you were staring at a coke bottle. What happened to me was the shape of the coke bottle was still there, but how I perceived it was greatly altered, I saw a weird alien looking creature instead. The basic form was still there. It's like I stared at it so long that my brain no longer registered that what I was seeing was in fact a coke bottle, but instead filled in the gaps with it's own interpretation.

Sadly though, I have not been able to reproduce that result since that time, and have yet to find any articles online explaining how to do it...
