Stay in a dream for eternity! part 2

Link to the original thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/beyond-dre...-eternity.html

I would like to continue this thread and was told by sivason in the last post: "Start new thread if you would like. This one is too old"
So that's exactly what this thread is doing, continuing the old thread, but in a new thread for some reason lol. I don't really see the point in having to close the old thread and continue it in a new thread, but anyways, back on topic.

If you could stay in a dream for an eternity, would you want to? Why or why not?

This is assuming it is possible, so no need to debate whether anything is possible here.

This assumes that the eternal dream takes place over a single rem period and you simply never wake up.

This also assumes that you are a god of your own domain and control things to whatever extent you like. If you ever get bored of living after a few eons or so, you might could even try out a temporary death state to take a break for a while, permanently off yourself if that's what you want, or even reincarnate yourself to experience your creations as if everything is new again. It's your own world and there is no telling what could be possibly with an infinite amount of playtime.

Also assume that shared dreaming is possible and other ppl from the waking world can participate in your dream from time to time for as long as they wish. So you wouldn't have to be stuck in your own mind with only dcs for company.

The only thing you can't do is return to the waking world, and that is only because it would defeat the point of the main question here.

So all that in mind, would you do this if you could? All thoughts are welcome.

I have actually thought about this at length before. I feel like a lot of people would say yes to this but I feel like, they haven't actually thought it all the way through, I mean it is only hypothetical. For me, I ended up deciding that, I would do it. I thought about it two ways, and this way is actually more beneficial, that it happens in a single night's sleep. This way in waking life, I wouldn't be missed, so I wouldn't feel any guilt for that. Although, I did end up after a long period of thought deciding that I would also do it, even if it meant a coma and that I would be missed. But, really I was able to rationalize it like this: Everyone spends their life doing whatever they do, to what? I feel that mostly it is, to achieve happiness. And, anytime I've ever been in a lucid dream that's all I've ever felt, is happiness, and a sense of being care-free. Now this isn't to say that I wouldn't miss waking life, I very well might. But, I feel like if I was in a lucid dream for eternity, that I would be able to come to a state of eternal happiness, and what more could you ask for in life?

I've been doing a lot of reading about dreams, and also reality, and I've also had many experiences that have told me things about reality that I can't shake away as mere delusion. One of the conclusions I've come to is that waking life is also a dream, but a more persistent one (although not a perfectly persistent one).

The subconscious mind is what is described as "God", and the conscious mind is what is described as "Spirit". You can not become "God", but "God" will do whatever you ask of it so long as you believe in him.

Conscious and subconscious ("God" and "Spirit") are one, but they are also separate. The reason for the separation is because, as has been said, absolute power corrupts absolutely. What that means in terms of a dream is that if you were to have absolute control of the dream, and not just influence over the subconscious, what would end up happening is you would "fall into the abyss". The abyss is simply a metaphor for the loop that would occur where your experience of your creation would influence similar creation, and eventually you would be stuck in the same experience forever, which would be like being in "Hell".

Your whole life, your subconscious mind invites you to experience eternity in "Heaven" (possibly a lucid dream), and you have to make a decision whether or not you are ready for the implications that eternity in a dream would mean. Are all your friends and family even real, or are they creations of your mind? Do you really want to live a life knowing that nothing that you've ever experienced has been "real", and separate from your mind? If you truly ask yourself that question, what you may find is that you wouldn't want to know that to be the truth, and if you already know that to be the truth then that means you've decided to let yourself see the truth. It is the most painful truth to know, but you can grow from it (and even forget the truth again if you want). The signs are all around you all the time so that you can choose to accept the truth and live in eternity in a dream, but it's up to you whether or not you want to pay attention to the signs. Perhaps you're not ready to go back to using cheats because you prefer the challenge, or maybe you know a lot of people that you love to be around, and the idea that they are just a different part of you hurts you because it makes you feel alone. Well, that's reality. You are alone, and so am I, and we are one and the same and we are just experiencing a dream. I've realized that this is a dream, and even achieved some dream control, but I chose to go back to pretending because it was too easy to have full control.

After some time without control, just going along for the ride, I've decided I wanted to go back to having control.

So, essentially what I'm saying is that I would stay in a dream for eternity, and that is what I intend to do. I intend to escape this persistent dream, and ultimately destroy it and create a new persistent dream that is more desirable. I already know how to do it, it just takes "faith" in the subconscious mind, and a little boost. What I mean by a little boost is that I must first enter a lucid dream where I have full control, and then speak to "God" and tell "him" that I'm ready to spend eternity with "him". What will happen after that is my subconscious mind will stop creating waking reality, and start creating a new reality. A new template. I won't make the same mistakes I made first time around.

I would probably stay in the dream for eternity, however the problem i see with this is that i might not be able to grow and learn in the same way as we do in waking life, which is one of the reasons we may come to physical reality if there is indeed reincarnations. In a dream it would be easy to just instantly acquire things and would lose that whole anticipation and hard work we go through to acquire things, but if anything is possible, then I should be able to create a reality where it isn't easy. I would love to try observe life on earth even though i may not be able to come back physically, but as a ghost.

Being in a dream with no limitations would be a great experience indeed

If I could stay in a dream for eternity, I would probably try to do mental shenanigans and cheat the system so that I am dreaming and awake at the same time.

Yeah.. Well, good luck with that.

If I could ever become skilled to dream for eternity I would probably do it until I ran out of things to do, spend a while just doing other cool stuff and come back eventually. I might try and dream for eternity when I got old enough, but I figure I have at least 80 years or so until that happens. Cool idea though!

If I was able to then I would. I'm a creative person so I doubt I'd get bored in a universe of my own creation.

And since reality is subjective, who's to say a dreamworld is any less real than this realm if all we have to determine realness is are senses? I'd prefer a world of my own creation to this mundane world any day.

The only thing that would make me hesitant would be family/friends. If I weren't able to see them again I'd say no. If I was via shared dreaming, then without a doubt yes.

      Mylynes,

You really would not want what you are suggesting. I'll tell you why.

Dreams that we consiously create seem wonderful because we can decide to create all the things that we like in them. But the limitation with this is that it is still only one person creating this dream experience. To do this for eternity would be a little like choosing to only masturbate for the rest of eternity instead of making love with others.

Everything we dream is coming from our own mind. The fabulous diversity in our dreams shows us how powerful our minds are. But they are limited to what we know and have experienced. If you were to go into an eternal dream when you were five years old, you can imagine how much more limited your dreams would be. The richness of your current dreams is a result of the collection of waking life experiences that you have had. As you increase your life experiences, your dream life becomes even richer. As you become more profficient at conscious dreaming, you bring that richness into your waking liife and share it with others.

The conflicts and difficulties of waking life do not need to be escaped. You can see waking life as a challenge comparable to a challenge in a dream experience. You can learn to enjoy waking life as much as you enjoy dream life.

Wherever light strikes, there are always shadows.
So long as there is a concept of victors the vanquished will also similarly exist.
The selfish intent of wanting to preserve peace initiates wars.
And hatred is born in order to protect love.
In dreams a world of only love and peace can be created.
The answer is simple i would rather stay in a dream.

Why would anyone want to dream forever. That sounds worse than hell to me. Why would I want to leave my SO, my sisters, my grandma, my dad, my pets? Yes I could replicate them in the dream world if I wanted, but they aren't the real deal, and I could never convince myself otherwise. If I could take everyone I care about with me, then maybe, but I'd still be pretty on the fence about it.

The purpose of lucid dreaming, in my opinion, is to do whatever you want that you can't do in waking life (like flying, talking to subconscious, or breathing underwater). We all compare the dream world to waking life - which has limits and rules - whereas dreams don't have any of these things stopping us. So comparing the two makes the dream world the best place ever.

But if you were in it forever, you would get bored quickly. There would be no normality and you don't have to work for things like you do in real life. It'd be really dull. Plus, you wouldn't feel alive. You wouldn't see your real family, friends, pets and anything else of importance to you. DCs just don't feel the same as the real thing. The mere thought of never seeing my friends and family scare me. I love them to bits.

So would I dream forever? No. But if I had the chance to have a week long lucid, then yes I'd love to go on a nice dream vacation!
