Astral Projection

Hey fellow forumers,

I want to share my so far experiences. I haven't had a successful conscious OoBE. But still feels like I'm getting there.

As a child I've had several lucid dreams - realizing I'm dreaming. Until middle school (age ~17) didn't know what it was (now I'm 24). So then I started to read a lot about human mind, hypnosis etc. Stumbled on OoBE, but at that point didn't seem like a thing for me. So 7 - 8 months ago, met some old friend and he turnd me to this again. Since then I've been trying have an conscious OoBE.

I have had a lot of progress, I'd like to think so :D Sure should pay more attention to it, but still need to go to work..
So, recently I can catch myself as vibrations start, before falling asleep at night. (i rarely try to have an OoBE at night) But as soon as i feel the vibrations start usually from my back, I snap out and they end. I also have reached some sort of partial Sleep Paralysis - my legs, feelings were like some sort of heavy stuff was put on my legs and I couldn't move them. And again as soon as I realized what was going on, I snapped back.

Usually I try to have an OoBE in the morning, waking up before I have to get to work. I have an alarm at 5:30, but usually I can wake up before that, and fall asleep and wake several times. The only thing I can think of is to roll over and fall asleep. I know it's the roll-over signal, but still can't overcome the need to roll over.

Also I'd like to think that I have good visualization skills. I can get to Hypnagogic state, and start seeing dream-like random episodes, also sounds, but neither I can control them nor continue. And again, as those episodes start I snap back.

I think I've had some unconscious OoBE - lying on my back, traying to seperate, and at some piont I lost myself, the next thing I remeber - falling back into my body, and the feeling was like i really hit the ground an my legs and arms went up in air.

So I wanted to ask for your opinion and suggestions?

How could I maintain consciousness, how to overcome roll-over signal.

One thing i will start up from today - dream journal. Cause I think i can wake up after my dreams, but if I don't write them down I forget them.

Oh I forgot to mention one of my biggest obstacles - jaw and tongue. When lying on back i can't seem to relax my jaw and it feels like it's moving (some force is pulling) in all directions and the same goes for tongue. After a while of meditating i feel some sort of pressure in jaw area, but tongue keeps mooving and it's very distracting. I found some sort of solution to this - lying on side, but mostly i fall asleep.

Any advice on this problem?

I am really only interested in "real time" Oobe. I "friended" you because you are doing what I really, really want to do. I hope you stay.

I've noticed most Oobe students leave Dreamviews because this is a just a Lucid Dreaming forum. Some folk here think Oobe it Bull Shit (and are quick to say so) and maybe drive away the sincere Oobe student.

Where was this thread before it was moved to "Beyond Dreaming?".

I wish they had an Oobe section like they have (several) for Lucid Dreaming.

Then

Serious students of the Out of Body Experience could share their techniques and experiences and find similar threads easier. There is a lot here on Dreamviews about obe but it is scattered.

There are lots of Lucid Dreaming buddies but because obe buddies are verbally attacked, there are no obe buddies. I feel very alone. Hope we can be buddies here on Dreamviews, seextniex

My body twitches due to neuropathy. Your question made me remember that 5 yeats ago, when I first saw this video, I would go to the gym to do these relaxation exercises. Then I lay down (at the city gym) to hopefully OBE (hahaha).

Anyway

He talks a lot about the extreme importance of relaxing the jaw .

Here in part 5 we’ll cover the exact relaxation routine that you can use to fall asleep quickly so you can cure insomnia and have frequent Lucid Dreams and OBE’s.

You don’t have to spend hours relaxing every part of your body in order to have OBE’s. About 90% of your body’s tension is in about 10% of your muscles.

From (00:45) to (02:55) is all about the jaw muscle. Step 1, 2, and 3 is stretching the jaw.

Most books on relaxation get you to lay down and start relaxing your feet and work your way up to your head. That's not the way to do it because the vast majority of your bodies tention is in your jaws, not your feet.

The jaw is the strongest muscle area in terms of exerted force. The world record for ... (...)

No other muscle in your body can exert more force than the jaw muscle. And no other muscle holds more tention.

Many people go their whole lives snd never consciously think to relax their jaws.

So

The very first thing to do befor an OBE induction is relax your jaws. This step is absolutely required. It only takes a few seconds so it gives you the most BANG for your buck of all the relaxations you can do.

Start with a very firm massage of the meaty part of your upper jaws in front of and below the ears. This is your masseter muscle and is the biggest, single, culprit for locked-up muscle knots in your entire body.

Press strongly with your fingers on both sides of your head and get a good hurt feeling.

The second step is to squeeze on both side with your palms in stead of just your fingers. You can use quite a bit of force when you do this because your jaws are quite strong.

Let your jaw go as slack as you can while your pressing.

It is common to stretch before exercising your legs by touching your toes but have you ever stretched you jaw muscles? You may look silly doing this but it goes a long way to relaxing your jaw muscles.

So the third step is to relax your jaw muscles as much as you can and then use your fingers to pull your jaws open.

You may be surprised how much your jaws resist but by streaching them you can get the tension out.

My Grandfather was a professor of a science called Relaxology. On of his colleagues could relax his jaw so much that you could wiggle it with your hands and it felt like there was almost nothing holding his jaws on his head.

You don't have to relax your jaws that much. But I mention it to give you an idea of just how much tension there is in your jaws even if you think they are relaxed.


(2:56) Step 4 is stretching arms and chest against a wall.

(3:14) Step 5 is stretching shoulder and chest tension.

(3:30) Step 6 is stretching the bottom of your feet and calf.

(3:44) Step 7 hands and forearms.

(3:52) Step 8 slow windmill to relax shoulders.

(4:07) Step 9 lay down and roll-around for a minute (hahaha)

Once you’re done rolling around…

(4:47) Step 10 Stop, Drop and Roll.

(4:59) Step 11 Sleep Breathing.

(5:04) Step 12 Relax your eye’s and stop eye-micro-movements.

(5:16) Step 13 count 150 heart beats.

(5:38) Step 14 Switch on the Rollover signal.

(5:44) Step 15 Tense and Release each muscle group.

(6:45) Step 16 Rollover and release any remaining tention.

(6:55) Socks and Earplugs.

I had a little bit of success with OBEs back in the day and am (actually right now) planning on getting back on the path.

I borrow portions of one of Ophiel's methods.

If you have a little space in your house:

1. Find and print 5-6 significant symbols (for you). They can be practically anything that generates memory for you.
2. Place each symbol at a different location (ideally 5-6 feet apart) going away from your bed or meditation spot / chair.
3. Once a day (or more) stand at each symbols location and just stare at it for several minutes (or more). Note anything special about its location...Ie; smells, peripheral vision highlights, a wind draft (temp.), etc...
Note: some people claim that a scented candle, flower or incense, etc...can help step 3 (and the overall process) significantly.
4. Begin visualizing each "station" and all things associated with it from your "rest area."

With this simple method, I was OBEing in very little time. (1-2 months).

My wife got up late at night once to use the bathroom and shrieked when she "saw a ghost," in the hallway.

"Whoops....sorry honey. :) "

To me, Astral Projection and real time, physical plane, Out of Body Experience is totally different from the more popular Lucid Dreaming.

2nd: Yes, you are correct. the OBE I described above is just a 1st step to the much more elusive and "advanced" astral projections. It's (the steps above) is a way to get comfy in your "astral body," if you will.

The same wife (as mentioned above) was in Thailand and I was in Saudi.

I decided that I wanted to attempt to pay her a visit, with little real idea about where she was (exactly) or who she might be with.

I tried several times to astral project to her. I had some of her garments (nothing kinky) and a few of her objects placed near me.

At one point I was watching myself from above, and then I was above and soaring off. (Not an entirely new experience for me at that time), but in almost a 1/2 second I was next to her. She was engaged in conversation with her best friend, in Thai. I can speak and understand Thai fairly well, so it wasn't a good time for a true foreign language comprehension test (from the other side ;) At one point (only a minute or so in - in real time) they both showed some fear, so I was gone...

Later, I informed her about where she was and what she was talking about. She freaked....said they both saw an outline of a human in their midst and had "funny feelings."

I swore to her that I'd never repeat the act. Thais are traditionally horrified of ghosts. ;)

Thank you for the link to purchase the book. 1974 was a great time for learning about Astral Projection. Mum and I were practicing Lobsang Rampa's Astral Projection techniques. I am 55 this year.

Lobsang also wrote about leaving strong, natural smells at points around the house. Then he said to close eyes and imagine leaving the body and following the trail you have set up. Stopping at each smell and really smell it, in your imagination.

Then as you go to sleep, relax deeply, and imagine doing it.

He said you will think at first that it is just imagination BUT you will soon discover that you are more out-of-body than in.

Which means, I could place strong herbs with smelly herb oil at places around my Adelaide city block.

Am-a-gunna do it.

I'll post in my dream journal what happens and link it here.

Ophiel says you can add even more stimulation by not only placing a certain scent at each location (along with a visual representation) but also a sound. It could be a recording of some kind, but even easier might be a small (make-shift" instrument). I seem to remember one person's "path" including self-made (small) watercolored paintings (for visual), a distinct smell and a combo of things like: spoon/glass - finger cymbals - Indian twirling drum and other small object that can produce a particular sound...
