Thread: symbols to help induce OBEs and the like...

I prefer relaxation and concentration. When relaxation and concentration reaches right degree, separation becomes possible. No symbols or signs could help me in that. I concentrate inside not to the outside.

That's fine. I hope we can agree that different people respond to different methods.

First thy symbol has to mean something to you. Then just focus on it. Really it's not much different than using words for incubation.

Most of the info. I have regarding this is through the infamous occultist "Ophiel."

He says in one his many books (The Art and Practice of Astral Projection) that one of the first steps in being able to "project," as well as to "Creatively Visualize" Ie; manifest real objects onto the physical plane is to:

I. Take a symbol (any symbol) that has meaning in and of itself, but more importantly positive meanings to you.
II. Be certain the symbol is displayed in something easy and comfortable to handle. (this practice is MUCH more effective if YOU make your own symbol / copying one is ok. The construction is important, so choose a medium (markers/pastels/water-colors) that you like and take your time - make the background (borders) straight and the symbol just as you want it)
III. focus on the symbol daily - look at it, through it, all around it until it is "fixed" in your mind's eye (1-3 weeks), enough so that you can recall it (with all its detail) at any time throughout the day or night (1-2weeks).

This is a very powerful PROCESS. It opens your mind's eye in specific ways. The end result is less important than following the steps with purpose, feeling and diligence.

The actual benefits to you would become much more apparent later after you research Creative Visualization more thoroughly.

A more immediate benefit would be thus:


1 - Choose 5 or 6 symbols that have some positive feeling for you or interest to you.
2 - Make small copies and fix (tape/glue) them to the wall at about your eye level in increments of about 5-6 feet beginning from your bed and moving out into the hallway and (perhaps) ending at the front door. (If you have a much smaller space to work with, fixing them around the room is ok)
3 - Begin with walking to and focusing on each symbol in turn. 1 min. / symbol (hopefully working up to more) (1-2 months)
3a - You made add scents and/or sounds to each "symbol station" to make them more remarkable and easier to recall.
4 - Begin laying in your comfort zone and visualizing each symbol station...including its background. (1-3 weeks)
5 - From your same comfort zone, meditate/relax/deep breathe/binaural beat/ whatever works for you...and begin "traveling" to each location in your astral body/aura/soul.

Your FEELINGS and EMOTIONS are VERY important in the above exercise.

A. You must believe you're doing this.
B. You must believe it's a pleasure to be doing so.


Ophiel also talks about focusing (staring) at a picture of a landscape.
Something natural perhaps with layers into the background (Ie; lakeshore, sand, grass-line, tree-line, mountains, sky).

With intense focus, diligence, determination and positive feelings, Ophiel and many of his disciples and students claim to be able to move their aura/astral body up and out of their bodies and into the picture (or photo or painting even).
