Second time I had a dream about death when someone really died that night - coincidence ?

I'll cut to the chase.

Two years ago I had a dream about shopping, when a stranger in basketball player clothes suddenly stormed in and told me something that extremely worried me. I asked him if his message was about my mother, but then he said no and I calmed down and continued on my dream as he left.

That morning my mother told me her co-worker died in a traffic accident. Same guy who drove her to work from airport a few weeks earlier.

Today in my dream I was visting my friend in his apartment when his mother (but no his real mother, she looked way different) stormed in. Her face was red and wet from crying, she looked very tired as well.
I do not remember the exact conversation but I found out she is is mourning. I decided to leave the apartment because it was an awkward situation.

This morning I found grandfather of my cousin (whom I barely knew) died in his sleep. He was indeed sick, but nobody expected this to be this night, he was sick for about a year now and I haven't seen him in more than that.


I wonder if those dreams have any signifiance or were they just coincidences ?
I usually do not dream about things like these, although recently I had several dreams about mourning a loss of my sister (whom I never had !), but I am unsure if this is connected in any way.

What do you guys think ?

Now dreams like this can be a quincidence or a true psuchic power!

I know it sounds very strange, but we actually can have such powers. Many famous minds have dreamed about their inventions and buit them or saw the future and then happening exactly as they said!

By the look so of it you might be emircing your so called "powers".

You shouldnt be woried every human beign can "unlock" one.

Some gifts may be bad some may be good. Yours is kinda in the middle.

You should meditate and look to in your innerself! Try relaxing and puting your hands on your legs with left one on top for males ( and right one on top for females ) while meditating.

Such fenomana is rearly stumbled uppon so you should look in to it. Try searching Google for mire information if you want. There arent many REAL future tellers left. You might be the next :)

Is there possibly some reason you feel that it's anything more than coincidence, like you had a figure come to you in a dream and say that every time you dream of death, someone close to you will die? If not I don't see what makes you think it really is anything more than coincidence. I mean are these the only 2 times you have ever dreamt of death before? If not, this is only twice out of how many times? Coincidences that you notice are usually nothing more because for whatever reason the brain likes to make you forget all the other times something like this has occurred and nothing actually came of it. It just so happens these two times, something did.

I think it's probably coincidence, but never hurts to ask people here. I don't dream about death often, but what caught my attention both of these dreams were about something else, but both were suddenly interrupted by a "messnager" of sorts. Still I don't claim this to be anything special.

Maybe this all went in reverse...

Could it be, Blackhammer, that perhaps you had these dreams, and then attached them to deaths that otherwise would have been little more than background news in your waking life? I mean, did the deaths of your mother's coworker or your distant relative really mean anything to you? Can you think of a reason why you would have been notified of their deaths?

Deaths happen all the time; it could just be that you took special notice of these deaths because their timing coincided with your dream. [Damn. I was hoping to finish the post before the word "coincidence" came up -- almost made it!]

Besides, I think I'd be more curious about why I dreamed about the death of a sister I never had...

Right. I was just asking some questions, out of interest\curiosity. Whether it is something special or not, no one can really say. I was just giving you my 2 cents.

Your reverse theory makes sense, this is also what I've picked as most likely when thinking about it through the day.
Of course I am curious about the sister recurring theme. Got any interesting theories ? My childhood was rather peaceful and I'm in good relations with my parents so I doubt they'd hide a fact that I had a sister (that's the first thing that comes to my mind). Might be just a random thing.
No, random thing is a stupid thing to say. The dreams are pretty much never random, they all come from the subcounsciusness after all. Rather it must be indirect manifestation of some aspect of my consciousness, as in fears or desires. I guess someone with knowledge about dream interpretation, in a more psychological fashion.

It's possible the sister character is a representation of something. For example, it's well known that often when people dream about having a baby or having to care for one or something similar, it's isn't really about babies, it's about something in that person's life that can be best represented that way. Usually its some project or idea of theirs that was 'newborn' and that would require a lot of nurturing and care to grow into something greater. So, with this idea in mind, people in our dreams often represent things. Even if you dream about somebody you know, it's isn't necessarily about that person, it could be some part of yourself. Example if you dream about a friend of yours who is a very kind person, it might be a representation of your own kindness. If you dream of killing or imprisoning that kind friend, it could be a way to symbolically represent that you've killed off or imprisoned the kind part of your own personality. So with that in mind I'd start to think about what this sister might represent. Think about every aspect of her from the dreams - was a name ever given? Did you ever actually meet this sister in any of the dreams? What was she like? Was she younger than you or older? How did she die? What kind of physical traits did she have, or if you didn't meet her, what kind of information was presented about her or in relation to her, and how would that relate to your life? Also keep in mind, death doesn't necessarily mean death in dreams either. I'ts often just symbolic of the end of something.

Also, brief thoughts about the other dreams. I don't know what your living arrangements are like, but is it possible you might have overheard conversations about these deaths, maybe while you were sleeping? Ears don't close like eyes do, and we can't block out sounds when we're dreaming, so any sounds get woven into the dreams, unless they're loud enough to wake us up. I've definitely had dreams where I heard actual real-world dialogue and it got incorporated into the dream. One of my craziest dreams was built around a zit-cream commercial that was playing on the radio as I was sleeping. The dream wove a wild spy story around it and had dream characters saying the things I was hearing from the radio. I can easily imagine, if you're hearing a phone conversation about death your mind would be a bit shocked by that and dream up an intrusion by a character saying things about death.

I believe you can experience psychic knowledge in dreams. I've had it happen to me several times since I've started DJing. Sometimes it's exactly the same as a dream (like the image of my daughter ripping up my DJ, which happened 3 weeks after the dream) - or more of unconscious information being shared by dreaming (I had a dream of someone I know online, handing me a white powder and talking about addiction, later to learn he was a crack addict irl). So... I do believe in the possibility.

Ok now both people in the thread that believe in and that this is a psychic phenomenon, would you guys care to explain to me why you believe what you do? It's easy to believe something if you don't look at the evidence against it. I for one can't simply ignore evidence to the contrary, so I'd like to challenge either you MoonageDaydream or you, chance7hope to provide me with resources you might be familiar with on the internet that could explain these phenomenon or whether they exist, and please make sure its credible? You see I have an open mind about this stuff but I don't want to waste my time reading things that are clearly (and often sensationalist) fabrications, and that has been all I could ever find on subjects like these. If you think you can provide me with a few sources that might convince me to believe in this stuff, please, by all means, I am very interested in reading it and would very much enjoy it (I am not not being sarcastic!). I appreciate your efforts in advance.

You said these dreams were recent - can you remember what was going on in your life at the same time or just previous? Memories become disassociated very rapidly, meaning you can remember individual things that happened, but it becomes hard to remember which ones were happening at the same time or how they all fit on a timeline of your life. I've always kept a journal (well, for long periods anyway, not always) and reading back through it I'm like "Waitwat!! That happened while that was going on??!! Wow, I never would'a thought it!!"

But if it's recent enough you might still be able to piece together a decent timeline of what was going on around then. This would be extremely helpful, because it can show you any particular kind of stress you might have been under or possibilities you might have been thinking about exploring, that could give a hint.

It would also be a good idea for you to look at a lot of dream dictionaries and dream analysis books, but keep in mind most dream dictionaries are crap - it's really impossible to just say "This dream symbol always means blahblahblah" - it's never that clear-cut. Symbols can be very personal, created by your own mind and built from your own ideas and feelings, and no dream dictionary knows what those are. It's best to stay away from any pop culture type dream interpretations and stick closer to actual psychological literature. The dream moods site is pretty decent but still somewhat along the lines of a one-size-fits-all dream dictionary, though at least it gives some better and more in-depth explanations than most and it helps you to come to an understanding of how to interpret dream symbols.

An example of the kind of thing to try to remember - was there any indication in the dreams of how your parents felt about this sister? Loving, worshipful, spiteful? And how would that relate to how they feel about you? Your mind might have created the character as a foil in order to help you work out some things - you know, you can't know light without darkness, cold without heat etc. So when there's something to compare against it becomes easier to understand the qualities of something. Hope that made sense. I mean the way your parents (in the dreams) treated the sister or her memory might tell you something about how you feel they're treating you.

You should spend some time with a pen and notebook and write down anything you can remember of the dreams, and also of what was going on simultaneous or just prior to them. Keep adding to it day by day if you can remember more. Also use a big section of the notebook for free association. Write down anything that occurs to you about the concept of 'sister' or 'sister's death'.

A sister is family, which makes me think the character probably relates to your family life. Starting from that (or from anything else that occurs to you, keeping in mind I might be wrong about it relating to family) just write anything that comes to mind, and don't skimp on detail. The amazing thing about dreams (and thoughts, which dreams come from) is how densely packed they can be with meaning. You might only see a single brief image and can write a thousand word essay about the feelings and ideas contained in it (dreams unlike movies are more than just visuals and sound - they also contain ideas, feelings, moods, memories both false and real etc).

To help you understand how your daily life has an impact on your dreams, I think is a good chance to discuss what makes up the content of the dreams. When it comes to your senses, your brain must do something more complex than take in external and internal stimuli, it must also associate this stimuli with meanings. When you see a couch, not only is the ability to recognize the object amazing in itself, because over the course of your life you have seen more furniture than just couches, and it is all very similar. You've seen, recognized and make associations when it comes to seeing chairs, beds, futons, and all other kinds of things to. So couch must be associated with sit, the fact it has room for more than one person, that it may be more comfortable than another particular piece of furniture you know and have the concept of. This isn't even beginning to mention the fact that it might be a bright color, a dark color, it could be green, red, or blue... it can be very dirty or very clean, very small or very large, more angular and more rounded, stink or smell pleasant, creak when you sit on it, etc. Think of all the different things the mind must think of at once in order to tell you that you are in fact seeing a couch. You could remember specific memories from it, whatever. So, dreams although seemingly very random but with elements of things you saw, experienced, and felt throughout the day, also have everything your brain had to make associations to lumped in with them, and some are so aloof from each other they seem completely random. The days happenings, your feelings, the people you came in contact with and possibly talked to, the tv shows you watched and their associations too. I could go on forever but it's distracting me from making my point.

My idea, is that your dreams will reflect the most commonly occurring associations you made throughout the day entirely unconsciously. To top it all off, in the dream you are making associations too so it makes things even more random! You have to realize too that you are also unconsciously analyzing the world around you, and in order for you to be most ready to act in case of an emergency, the brain must have a mechanism for running several models of reality that are less bound to the stimuli you are actively perceiving. The most relevant and likely of these models along with your mind's expectation of the very very near future, although processed unconsciously or subconsciously, wind up preemptively preparing your body for what is about to happen next without having to spend precious frontal lobe, conscious top-down decision making on something could be handled much more efficaciously. However, in altered states of consciousness, such as those reachable via meditation or certain hallucinogenic drugs, these processes are not filtered out from your conscious mind's most "accurate" model of reality. The subconscious models begin to spill over into conscious thought and perception. This unconscious processing of various different, somewhat false to varying degrees (the more false, the more creative associations you make), models of reality also account for your intuition. When you get a hunch about something, you have already had a model of reality run through your subconscious that has provided you with this hunch, even if you can't quite put your finger on it yet.

So, you have dreamt of this girl and you believe that she is significant in all of this, that she really does represent something. Your mind probably already unconsciously knows why. Try and listen to the whispers of these subconscious thoughts. I'm not saying if you listen hard enough that you actually get an answer. No, what I mean is search yourself for a few minutes, perhaps meditate if you think it will help you. Listen for the subconscious thoughts in the language in which they are spoken: raw knowing of concepts and gut feelings. What does your gut tell you about this girl? However, if you aren't certain what it is even if you start to find an answer, I am not suggesting taking the first thing you think of and run with it. In fact, I am not even suggesting to do this if you are sure because the human mind is not that simple. Any conclusions you may come to might really just be leading you to another clue that your mind is trying to give you, that only you can understand, but have to search for. It may be several years before you find the answer, or maybe you won't find it at all. But rest assured when you do, it will not just be a sure feeling, it will be a moment of epiphany. All the little things nagging at you that you didn't understand will finally fit into place like the pieces of a puzzle, and the epiphany will, at that point, be able to stand to reason and not wind up just being a load of bollocks once you start trying to shoot holes in it (never just believe something, you should always try to prove something wrong or failing that prove something right beyond a reasonable doubt before accepting it).
