I was grooving to the last 2 Youtubes and after watching "Adelaide Breathes" (for the third time) I looked at the tiny pictures of Youtubes underneath. I had no idea what one would be about so I poked it.

Some of us decieded that it could be fun to see if our OBEs/lucid dreams/astral travels/visions etc could be used as some kind of remote viewing tool. Therefore we set up a very simple experiment that everyone can participate in.*
The host (0) Nick Newport: put an object in a cardboard box and marked it "Saltcube RV Experiment 1". The object in the cardboard box is the remote viewing target. (0) will reveal what the object is on the 8th of july (7days). Untill then you can post what you have picked up in your various experiences.*
I know some of you have intense experiences everyday so I will set a limit of 2 guesses for each person. I recommend you analyse your experiences and post the ones that you somehow think could be the object in the cardboard box.*
Good luck*

I guess I'm the first one to take a guess at this.
I just returned from a very short experience. I relaxed entered the altered state and it quickly got visual. I remembered about our RV experiment and thought about the cardboard box. When I did this an apperance that looked liked my uncle appeared. He took this little black box and inside he found another litle box.*
It was made out of different papers and I got the impression of something that was homemade.*
I did not see the text "Saltcube RV Experiment 1" but there was some other text that kept changing. This text was some kind of code like "H GSW 248" but the letters kept changing as I looked upon it. Then I got the impression that this box had something to do with computer programs. I was shown something that reminded me of old installation manuals of games.*
I saw paths like "c:/dong" etc and there was some screeshots of some kind of game with some text underneath.*
To summarize this my guess is that the object you put in the cardbox must be some kind of computer software. Could be a floppy disk that is in some kind of box together with a manual.*

No its not empty. Remote viewing is difficult enough with an object and it would unfair to have no target. Some object have been placed inside the cardboard box.*

Thanks for making this thread, MVX (Participant:1).
(There is something in the box.) I'm hoping people will be able to make a couple attempts at RVing this, so go ahead and post multiple guesses if you want.*

Also, in addition to detecting that you perceive the object's function to be, try to collect information about its color, texture, temperature, etc.

(Participant 2)
Well, it would be quite a laugh if it would be empty. But ok, not everyone likes my humor.*
Anyhow, I have read some remote viewing books, but I got scared at the immense training it requires. It is sad you can't do ALL things in life.*
I do sometimes see my alarm clock in my sleep/half-sleep and it always turns out to be exact the same time. Very handy if you can see your alarmclock in your dreams, "Oke, nów it is time to wake up"**
I have also seen "through the eyelids" on some occasions during meditation.*
But I think my conscious mind would 'corrupt' the visions I receive. It would be neat though.
Post 7
(Participant 1)
Yeah, I dont expect to be correct either. I have never trained RV and my experiments to prove that my OBEs really happens outside the body have all failed.*
Anyway I think it is important to try it regardless that my previous attempts failed.
Post 8
(Host Nick Newport)
I'm not saying that what you got was correct or incorrect, and I agree you're right it's important to keep trying it regardless. I'm thinking that over several tries things may crystalize and it will be useful to watch that process.
Post 9
(host Nick Newport)
(Nick) quotes (Participant 2) then writes:
Hey, maybe for a future experiment I will have an empty box. Or maybe not! You never know....**
I'm not yet completely convinced that all the training some of the books have is as critical as they make it out to be, but maybe it is. From what I can tell, it seems like it's really a matter of making your intuition more exact and the protocols they give are ways to do that but they're not the only ways.*
Next time you have transparent eyelids or are in an OBE, try consciously stating to yourself in short sentences with pauses in between what you're seeing. This has helped me a little to lengthen OBEs and I think it might help make intuition more exact.

Last call before I post what this is!*
I'll post the answer in the evening today (Friday), so get your entries in soon!

it's a book sitting at the bottom of a brown box. The flaps open. light from a large window that it sits near falls in during the afternoon.(hard to tell from my angle - could be a lamp) walls pale - greenish. carpet pale tan. white ceiling, trim and window panes. from the doorway into the room the box sits to the right.*
it may be set on top of something, but out of the way.*
there is a couch maybe dark against the opposite wall that the door is on, but further in the room.there seems to be a lot of 'stuff' in the room. a young man, late 20's early 30's walks in the doorway, he looks towards the box. he holds a can of beverage in his right hand. worn sneakers/shoes, corderoys and t-shirt.*
I cannot get a fix on his face as I have yet to meet him.*
this is my submission.*
and, I may be completely wrong but it's worth a try.

And the answer is
'Picture of red handled black wire strippers'
Wire strippers!*
While none of the entries were dead on, there were accurate elements in each guess.*

The competition began on 8-July-2005.
The Host was Nick Newport. In Post one he gives lots of tips on how to try this:
Nick Newport
I've placed an object in a box and labeled it
'Saltcube Remote Viewing Experiment 2'
On the 16th I will post to this thread what it is.
The goal is for people to intuit what the object is. Anyone may try, just post what you think it is to this thread.
Tips
The real purpose of this game is to find out effective methods to RV, so watch not only for what you intuit but how you intuit as well so that you can fine tune yourself over time.
Post everything you do and detect. Rather than simply stating " the object is a XXX " describe the setting you find the object in, its qualities and so forth. Also note your physical setting, did you lay down? Was it an OBE? What time of day? Post anything that seems to be relevant.
Suggested Method For Intuiting
The basic idea is give yourself the intention to collect information about the object and then record all the information that comes to you [ b] without evaluating it in any way [/b]. Only after you've collected object data do you perform a subjective evaluation of the data.
You don't want to do these two operations at the same time because this can result in a chaotic feedback loop.
Bruce Moen calls this finding a balance between your Interpreter and [/b] Perceiver [/b].
For example, try this:
1) - Lay down (this is a body mnemonic to start using more right brain than left).
2) - State "I'm collecting information about the object's color for 15 seconds starting now".
3) - Don't actively think about colors, but listen/feel for a feeling of what colors are there. Write these down without evaluating them. If you only get one color then that's what you get. Some objects have only one color, some have hundreds of colors.
4) - Repeat this process for other qualities:
How hard/soft?
How cold/warm? (metal feels cooler than wood)
Dense or airy?
Rough or smooth?
Bendable or rigid?
Some qualities appear to conflict such as " hard " and " soft ", however many objects have both hard and soft aspects (such as felt-tip pens).
5) - After your data has been collected, draw an quick sketch of the shapes the object appears to have. Feel:
Points
90º angles,
Rounded curves,
Pivots,
spirals,
hollowed areas,
flat planes,
cones, etc.
6) - You may want to do the above process once a day for a few days to get an idea for what feels right for this object before actually committing to deciding what it is.
7 - Make your Anchor List
Once you have a data set that feels pretty solid, look at the attributes you've listed and pick out the ones that really feel like they're correct. Throw the rest out. This is the most important step, your Anchor List is what I am most interested in people posting.
8 - Finally, look at your list and make a guess as to what it is. This step is not so important. The object may be a pair of black wire cutters with red rubber handles.
If your Anchor List is "red", "black", " hard ", " soft", then you're 100 % on the money and so your intuitive skills are well developed. You may not be able to make the connection to " wire cutters " from your Anchor List but that's not so important because anything that increases a person's intuitive sense is useful.
The real value of this experiment is to gradually develop your intuitive skills, so it's much more important to get good at making an Anchor List than it is to guess the actual object.
For instance you may be better at detecting texture than color,
But
you wouldn't discover that about yourself if you only guess that it's a shoe or something since shoes come in many colors and textures.
Suggested Method For Detecting While Out Of Body
Once you're out of body and have enough coherence that you are aware you're out of body and that you know your physical body is in bed, you can either collect attributes using the method given above in the " Suggested Method For Intuiting " section or you can do the following :
1) - Give the intention to teleport to the box containing the object. When you teleport your surroundings should quickly dissolve and new surroundings take their place. It's more a feeling that the world has shifted than that you have shifted.
2) - Begin stating out loud to yourself everything that you're doing in order to remain as objective as possible. Deliberately talking at each step tends to slow you down a bit and keep things focused.
3) - Open the box and look at the attributes of what you see in the box. Do you
See red?
Blue?
Does it feel hard?
Sticky?
How does it smell?
4) - As soon as you've gotten 5 or so solid attributes, end the OBE while you're fresh. Don't try to get greedy and get more stuff than you can remember, 7 attributes is the max. Get up and write down or post exactly what you did and what you saw.
Good luck!
Here paticipants begin posting

It is something inside the box. I can see the dark empty space of the box.
The thing is square with a round part.
Some kind of device. A dice or game piece? A game of chance. Ivory colored, solid item about 3 inches tall.

I didn't post to the first one but before I saw the answer posted, a red apple kept coming at me. That was wrong now that the answer has been posted, but I still see a red apple - which is silly because an apple is perishable in this heat. I'm sure it wasn't his choice.

Great to see so many people participating in the experiment.
I was wondering if you could describe your various ways of trying to remote view the target and submit it along with your guesses.
I'm kind of curious if you see it in OBEs, Lucid dreams, ect.

I did as I usually do when going inside myself. I close my eyes in a quiet spot and " flip inside ".
I visualized the box, looking at it from all aspects. It appeared to be equal on all sides but this might have been because I have been dealing with boxes like that lately.
My immediate flash was of yellow. And though I tried to refocus and try from another angle, yellow is what I was getting, .. though maybe cream might be a better word.
And the shape seemed like a comma, which seemed odd to me.
Thinking about it I want to say like a banana but like the apple idea... not logical.
And really ... no not a banana... big on one end, kind of rounded and fat... narrowing on the other. Perhaps even flat on the side it is resting on.
OK, I cannot think what this would be in real life so, I assume I am a dismal failure at this.
I do have precognitive dreams, had one of the London terror attack...was very disturbing.
Wow Dreamviewers
How close was that? Here's the target so you can check out Participant 6's rv atempt:
