Help me use my Third Eye.

      Hey mates!
Glad to see you all still around. Hope ur all doing well. I'm doing fine.

I have had a brief experience yesterday during resting state. I noticed a light behind my brow, a red surface area and a hole in the middle that looks like the light in the inside of a light bulb. Very bright and deep with a glowing off-whiteish color. I assume this is the mystical Third eye.

I noted that people usually have this during Kundalini awakenings. A light in their forehead. For me, it was very faint. Some people have it very strongly. I haven't seen it again thus far! Do you guys have suggestions as to what I can do to increase clarity and re-occur this?

      Greets!

For me, the best and most direct way of opening my Third Eye is:
-Pay attention to your breathing and pay close attention to your body, especially the parts which are tense.
-Slowly, after having relaxed your whole body, turn your attention to your mind, your mental "background" (thoughts, emotions, images)
-After being immersed in your own mind (the goal is to let everything that comes to your mind undisturbed, not censored), use some kind of mental anchor to connect your mind to your Third Eye (for instance, I like to feel a blue energy emanating from my TE to my whole body)
-Concentrate on the feeling/colour/energy that connects both.
It is hard to say how much time on each step, or even how exactly should you do all this stuff, because it is something very personal and intuitive, so...take your time!
      I hope this was useful

This was very useful, thank you. I'm honored that ur first post is directed to me. Did u just make this account to reply? How did u find it. Welcome, either way.

It's apparent that physical tense sensations are, besides being very uncomfortable, obstructive of gaining total peace and surrender. Besides that, the brain I think is not used to it's full potential. Stuck in thinking and things. Instead of simply 'see-ing' . See, yesterday I started seeing images, symbolic, that have a strong energy component to them. My mental anchor is like using the entirety of my brain.

However, I'm momentarily not at peace. In complete fullness, due to my own actions probably. I can't always see why. So my '3rd eye' doesn't present itself in it's entirety all the time.

I can tottaly understand what you mean: Growing up, I was very rational and arrogant, with a fast-paced mind always judging and comparing...so I can relate a lot to your "Stuck in thinking and things".
One thing that really helped me was to take some time everyday, and truly reflect on my thoughts and motives...really immerse myself in my own mind. This, along with the marvelous help of some teachers and friends, allowed me to see things clearly, to "open my Third Eye". You see, I realized that a good portion of my habits (mental and physical) and occupations was not what I truly wanted to do (rather, It was a way for my distorted and arrogant self-image to remain unquestioned)...and when I realized what I REALLY wanted, interacting with the world (and myself) with a calm and centered mind became MUCH easier.
P.S : I created this account 2 days ago (although I've been lurking for much longer), and I got so much useful knowledge and information, that I realized it was time to start contributing as well.
P.S 2: I hope I conveyed my message correctly, english is not my mother language, so it's an enormous struggle to find the right words...

      Hi Dthoughts,

Good that you're getting some third eye action

Just keep putting attention in the general area of the third eye center. It's a large area. Keep at least a mild awareness of the area between and slightly above your two eye brows. While doing that, relax and look straight ahead. There should be no physical tension in the area or in the rest of the body.

Balance is important throughout the body. Focus on each area of the body - not just the third eye or on major chakras. Become aware of energy throughout the whole body.

Sound can come from that area and it might be accompanied by flashes of white light. That's a good sign. You will eventually get a lot of peace from focusing on the area - silence and calm, a vacation from all the usual nagging thoughts. Hence the song "Silent Night" ...Silent Night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright, sleep in heavenly peace.

You might see eyes, faces, skies, stars, landscapes, colors, and more. Enjoy

      There is nothing to fear.

Why would you want to experience this again? The "third eye" is much more than just a light in the mind's eye, and usually comes with many more sensations. Of course, it could be the beginning of a "third eye" experience, or it could be a simple hallucination.

In Buddhism there are things called "nimittas," which are various mental phenomena like lights and other signs and sensations which indicate a certain level of consciousness or meditative awareness has been reached. They are often instructed to be ignored, as they tend to distract one from the meditation object, although they can also be used as a new meditation object to attain deeper and more profound states of awareness. There is little talk of "third eyes" and such, as this is rather pointless in Buddhist practice or could actually do more harm than good if one was to construct a belief system around such mystical concepts to the benefit of no one.

I would avoid assigning labels to it and simply see where it takes you next time. I would also avoid trying to bring it back simply on the basis of a shaky assumption. Just some thoughts that I believe could be helpful.

Here's another thought, Dthoughts, that sort of echoes Vince's thoughts:

"Third eye" is a metaphor meant to describe the connection of your mind and its thoughts/energies with things not normally seen by your mind (and physical eyes). There really isn't a thing in your forehead that holds a third eye, and its "opening" is not an actual physical event involving lights or whatever in your forehead, but rather an emergence of your consciousness to new spiritual sensations. That imagery in your OP could have been anything, and there is no reason to assume that it is your third eye opening (because there actually is no physical third eye). Indeed, and as Vince already said, attaching attributes like that to the concept of a third eye might cause you to miss out on actually getting your mind into that third-eye place.

Yes, this thought might run counter to probably 90% of the literature on the third eye, but that doesn't make it wrong. It's just that, since the '60's," the pop-culture has embraced the imagery of a physical third eye entrapped in our foreheads, waiting to be opened, and that simple imagery is much cooler than the more complex things to which the original metaphor alluded; so the third eye became something real, rather than something spiritual.
