      Seeing through closed eyes

This has happened to me a couple of times. The last time I was on a couch reclining. When this happens although I don't remember how I got to that state is it a prelude to an OBE? And any tips on how to get to this state again and what to do when I see through closed eyes again? I'm thinking about sleeping on a reclining couch again the next time I get a chance.

I have been in this state one time about 2 years ago. For me it definitely was a prelude for the OBE I had that night.

The night this happened is when I was watching one of the meteor showers outside at night with my son. We were camping in our backyard that night and had set up a tent in our grass. By the fire that night I had stared at one particular area in the sky at one particular star for I would say 2 hours atleast. It was like I blocked out everything and was meditating upon the star. Shortly after this we went to lay down in the tent. I remember closing my eyes and still seeing the stars. While I layed there I did some energy work. Shortly thereafter, a EXTREMELY vivid, if not the exact same image I was staring at in the sky appeared behind closed eyelids! I was so surprised. Immediately I opened my eyes and saw the ceiling to my tent and began to wonder, "WTH!" Then I closed my eyes and like being in the night sky again, I saw every star just like it was when I was sitting at the camp fire. I even remember seeing a few shooting stars in this vision. The vision was fully alive. While looking at the incredible and indescribable moment, vibrations appeared and something grabbed ahold of my feet and pulled me out of my body. For the next few minutes I was floating below the stars.

Here is the actual dream journal account of this night if your interested. http://www.dreamviews.com/blogs/enigmatik/oobe-57920/

Is this an act of imagination? I honestly think it is. I don't believe that a person see's through they eyes even though it is so extremely real and believable. This was by far one of the best memories of an OBE for me.

Your post also got me thinking about a few techniques. For one the candle technique. This requires intent staring on the candle for a period of time so when you close your eyes the image remains. Maybe possibly the result of staring at this for a extended period and given the right conditions, you would be able to close your eyes and eventually the imagery would "pop" alive. As a matter of fact I believe this is the intent of the exercise.

This second technique isn't completely on lines with what you are talking about but I will mention it anyways. Last night I went to a Shamanic Drumming session. It was a great time and the energy there was hard to describe. (If you ever get a chance to participate in one I would HIGHLY recommend it.) Okay, fast forward a few hours and I was in bed. My friend has tried to get me to practice my imagery because of the simple fact that it can help you AP, even so much that it can help produce conscious OBEs. So I thought I would take advantage of the repetitive imprint in my mind of me beating on the drums over and over and over again. I searched youtube for a Shamanic Trance video with theta waves to help. Then I listened to this while imagining I was playing the drums. I tried to FEEL the drumsticks in my hands. How they felt in my hands and even the waves of energy coming off of the drums. I could feel it almost to the point of believing I was there. Sad thing is that the imagery never actually POPPED me into the scene. The point is to get so immersed that at one moment you are physical and the next you POP into this state of mind completely forgetting about your body and anything else.

I really liked your post and I hope this helps!

I had this more times than I can count. I have noticed you don't actually see the world, you see a projection of the world. So for example if in your room there are two potted plants and been there for a long while, but that day you have moved one of them to another room, if you see the world "that way" both plants will very likely still be there. That is because your mental image of this place is still the same, it takes time to adjust.

This is exactly how the world looks like when I astral project, so I believe in this state you see the astral projection of where you are (a mental image). If you astral projected that is what you would see (at first). I never went from that state to a projection, but these states are closely tied together.
How do you know that this is not a dream ?

I have some experience like that. It's sometime happen when I lay down on the floor or when I sleep in a friend's house.

It's happened to me a few times. Everything is kind of greenish, like seeing through night vision goggles? Someone made a pretty accurate GIF here years ago depicting what it looks like, but I can't find it.

I still don't know that that is, but it's not as uncommon as you might think.

hi, its not a prelude to an OBE. If you are lying there seeing through closed eyes then you are already lucid dreaming. Just stand up and enjoy your obe

For me it isn't, whenever I realise this is happening it stops. Although maybe now I recall, twice or thrice it happened. But I had it literally a couple hundred times.

OP you should try some techniques I think, don't focus on this too much. The fact that it happens means you likely have aptitude for projecting.

It's not a dream, it happens before you fall asleep. I was able to get up and navigate my messy room with my eyes closed. I never woke up.

Also, your perspective is off a little bit from where your real eyes are when you open them to check. The difference between looking out of one eye, then the other.

People report this sometimes when taking dissociatives, and very often when on deliriants (and quite vividly, I might add). I feel it has very little to do with an OBE in itself. It might be an indicator that you are entering a state of consciousness that is conducive to experiencing OBEs or lucid dreams, but that's just conjecture and even if it were true, nothing says it would always be that way. So, all I can say is "maybe" in regard to your question. What I can say, just to clarify for those that I have seen posit that they are indeed seeing through their eyelids, and not simply hallucinating, is that it is most definitely a hallucination. It has very little if not nothing to do with light penetrating through the eyelids or seeing with astral eyes. Not saying you claimed that OP, but just wanted to get that out of the way.

Yeah, I got that. I meditated on my third eye (well... huh) and started to see my room with my eyes closed but not things in front of me but things from the side, like that second sight was from different side, not the way I was standing. Dunno what it was.

Absolutely. While the "vibration" stage is typically used as a marker by many for AP/OBE potential - the "seeing through my closed eyes" experience is an even better guideline for me. If you experience this, perform an exit method, like the rope method (imagine climbing a rope up out of your body), or imagine yourself rocking back and forth. In general just imagine some sensation of movement in one or multiple directions.

If you can see the room you're in, you're usually pretty close to an exit in my experience - so you can even try just imagining yourself floating up a metre or two, and see if that causes an exit to occur for you.
