How close am I to astral projecting?

I have recently become interested in astral projection. After hearing that meditation is a good way to induce it, I started meditating every day. Today, during meditation, I started to lose the feeling of my body and felt an intense warping pressure. It was as if I was floating around in a void with gravity pulling me in every direction. How close is this to the stage where I can exit my body? Should I wait for vibrations before I attempt to exit?

There is a certain power in a question that is lost in the answer.

From what I understand, you have to be a master of meditation (like Buddhist monk level) to be able to do something like that just from meditating. AP/OBE/a dream where you feel like you're APing or having an OBE or whatever you wanna call it is really only possible for most people when they are lying down to sleep or after having woke up in the middle of the night after having gotten some sleep first (preferably the latter).

Strange feelings of detachment, dissociation from one's body, feeling as though one were floating, that one's body has gotten heavier or lighter, etc. are all fairly commonly experienced phenomena when meditating. It's likely you weren't close to Astral Projection or an OBE, but just experiencing those strange sensations I just listed instead. Sorry if this wasn't the answer you were hoping for, but in the end it ultimately helps you out. You now know that these feelings are normal and that you should be trying to AP/OBE at night, possibly after waking up in the middle of the night and then trying. Good luck.

You may have already been out of your body at that point. Please research more, or wait for answer from someone with actual AP from meditation experience, as just a handful of people here have that. But I know when you WILD and you have those sensations, you are already dreaming. Or for those that believe that WILD type of exit is actually an OBE, then you are in OBE.

This is the same feeling I get during a WILD. I experience very strange body sensations (mostly warp, change in size), then sound gets weird (faint with strange echoes), then strong vibrations and a loud roar as I totally disconnect from normal sensory experience of my physical environment. I've experienced the warping body sensations in meditation also, but I've never progressed further than that in a regular meditative state. I tend to lean toward the belief that any conscious disconnect from normal sensory experience has the potential of OBE, be it WILD or otherwise, so you may be on your way. Sounds exciting. Good luck!

Yes it sounds like you are very close to an obe. The easiest way achieve an outter body experience is to practice the indirect method. Which is essentially setting intentions to have a ld/Obe "immediately upon awakening" I like to act as though I'm rolling out of a body suit with in those first few moments of awakening, then I'll get vibrations and move on from there.

I agree you are very close. When your body goes number, you can try visualizing a pure white or electric blue light enveloping your whole body. That's what I do and if I can stay aware, this is where the real experience begins. Good luck. I hope it works for you like it does for me.

I would highly suggest reading Robert Bruce's book 'astral dynamics', he uses the tactile imagination method which I am a strong proponent of. I have tried these exit techniques while doing sitting meditation and was able to produce pretty strong pulsing, pulling, and pressure sensations, but was not able to enter the vibrational state in that upright position. I would suggest starting the meditation in the upright position which seems to work best for typical meditation, then when you reach a strong meditative state slowly get up and lay down, perhaps continue meditating for a few minutes laying down if desired and then do the exit methods.
