I experience that buzzing noise a lot. Often it's so loud that it hurts my ears, and I can usually increase its intensity at will. |

I had a crazy experience a couple nights ago with sound in a SP/pre-OBE state, and thought it'd be cool to get a list going of sounds people have experienced in the in-between-state from waking and fully asleep. It could be sleep paralysis (SP), hypnogogic sounds or from a pre-OBE state. |

Yeah it was nuts I thought I was losing my mind haha. I've had hypnogogic sounds before so I know what that's like but haven't really got SP stuff before so this was really surprising. I actually did go into a short OBE after this (at least I feel like it was OBE) but this sound was so intense I had to post about it. It was so jarring, and it makes me wonder why and how its there just because you can't miss it. |

I usually hear super loud noises that sound like drums and hear voices having conversations separate from me, but in the same room. |
|
I have had true SP only 2 times, and I have not had any sounds with that. |
|
I have never truly been paralyzed, but have taken hypnogogia to the extremes. There have been times when I could hear music playing very clearly. Not just generic music, but perfectly recreated songs from the radio. It can sound like your in a movie theater. |

I've experienced a loud noise only once in the many times I've experienced REM Atonia/SP. It was only one of two times I was frightened by the experience as well, because it sounded like a deafeningly loud train suddenly appeared outside my wall and was about to ram straight into me. My SP experiences aren't quite the norm though, I can always move if I actually desire to and don't ever feel the presences or feelings of doom or terror that you commonly hear about (I did feel terror once because I was on a prescription sleep medication when I experienced it though). It sounds exactly like hypnagogic hallucinations and being aware during REM Atonia, with the loud noise either being part of said hallucinations or possibly exploding head syndrome. |
|
Pre-OBE and SP I have heard: voices/conversations (clear as day), rustling, buzzing, knocking, clicking, radio static/white noise, footsteps, whispering, the sounds of 'singing crystals' (small pointy crystals that make a high pitched "singing" or "tinkling" sound when rubbed or rolled together), and a faint far away melody played on an unidentifiable but amazing sounding instrument. |
