      Songs about supernatural dreams

This is a list of hard rock songs about supernatural dream experiences and similar. There is some overlap in the categories, some of these songs are specifically about lucid dreams, some are more ambiguous. I've marked personal favorites with * and **, though I guess this makes a disturbing psychological profile. With a couple of exceptions, if I don't like the song I left it off the list.

Encounters with ghosts, demons, or other spirits:

      Megadeth - Lucretia *
      Metallica - All Nightmare Long
Iron Maiden - Lord of Light
      Iron Maiden - Twilight Zone
      Iron Maiden - Prodigal Son
      Iron Maiden - Purgatory
Iron Maiden - Dance of Death
Black Sabbath - Too Late (with Dio, not the earlier song with Ozzy with the same title) *

      Spirit beyond life and death:

      Live - Lightning Crashes *
Iron Maiden - Out of the Shadows
Iron Maiden - The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Iron Maiden - The Isle of Avalon
      Iron Maiden - Starblind *
Iron Maiden - If Eternity Should Fail
Soundgarden - Room a Thousand Years Wide *
      Chris Cornell - Seasons
      Scorpions - Lonesome Crow *
      Tool - Pneuma *

Other songs about lucid dreaming or experience of spirits:

      Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Black Sabbath - Lord of This World
Black Sabbath - Master of Insanity
      Heaven and Hell - Fear
Heaven and Hell - Breaking into Heaven
      Iron Maiden - Deja Vu
Iron Maiden - Dream of Mirrors
Iron Maiden - Mother of Mercy
      Tool - Descending *
Stevie Nicks - Edge of 17
Soundgarden - Beyond the Wheel (Live, 1993) **
      Dio - Dream Evil
Death Angel - Seemingly Endless Time
Danzig - End of Time *

      Prayers and Eulogies:

Dream Theater - Pull Me Under **
      Iron Maiden - Revelations
Iron Maiden - No Prayer for the Dying
Scorpions - Is There Anybody There?
      Tool - Wings for Marie
Scorpions - We'll Burn the Sky
Chris Cornell - Like a Stone (AOL) *

Whoa, a lucid dreamer with a somewhat similar taste in music
(Though I guess I lean a bit more to the progressive side...)

Great list, I'll make sure to check out some songs I don't know yet.

Songs that come to my mind:
Dream Theater - False Awakening Suite with I. Sleep Paralysis, II. Night Terrors, III. Lucid Dream (just a short instrumental but a fitting theme)
Tool - Parabol/Parabola (for the 'Spirit beyond life and death' category)
Alter Bridge surely have something in their catalogue but I can't think of a specific song atm

As an entire (concept) album I'd strongly recommend
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
While it's not directly about lucid dreaming it should fit the atmosphere. It tells the story of Nicholas, who keeps having dreams and flashbacks from a different life and era. He goes to regression therapy and discovers in a past life he was a woman named Victoria, who was murdered back in 1928...

Parabola seems to me to be a New Age take on gay sex, but the emphasis depends somewhat on the listener, as with some of the other songs I included.

Another one about reincarnation is 'Cyanide' by Metallica.

Images and Words is the main Dream Theater I've listened to. I've heard the other stuff also, but it didn't make much of an impression. I like their cover of Achilles Last Stand.

Similarly with Alter Bridge, I've heard some of it but it didn't make much of an impression. I know some of the songs their singer did with Slash.

What about Sanctuary: 'Into The Mirror Black" album. The lyrics on the entire album are new ageish.

Or this one by Queensryche I'm sure most have heard. "Silent Lucidity" Oh you have Silent Lucidity listed missed it at first.

Interesting timing on this thread as just before I went to sleep last night I was browsing some old metal bands on youtube for the nostalgia.

Also here is a video from a little known local band (I'm from and grew up in Minneapolis) named Powermad. They never really hit the big time I don't think but they made this video that got on MTV's head bangers ball. It's one I was watching last night. During the era of the big metal bands my friends and I would see them all. But we were never more excited than when it was going to be a Powermad night at First Ave. (You know the famous Prince club) I don't know what it was about these guys, but they put on a show that was more fun to watch than any of them. And the singer was always doing this freaky stuff with his eyes lol. Which can been seen a little glimpse of in this video. (Man when you're all drunk and stoned and he looks right at you and starts doing all this weird eye shit while singing lol.

Nice Dreams- Powermad: Absolute Power album.

Here's another one....The song Eagle by ABBA is about 'flying' with spirits in dreams. It now has a mashup with the Iron Maiden song 'Hallowed be thy Name' called 'Hallowed be the Eagle', which puts it on the hard rock list.

Buckethead also has a lot of songs with titles and moods suggestive of paranormal dream experiences, though they don't have lyrics.

Het Shadowofwind! Been a couple years since we talked I think. I am still in Pharmacy, I also had to get open heart surgery, but recovered fine. How goes the engineering? Are you able to be close to your family now?

      Sivason,

Hi, thanks. Sorry to hear about the heart trouble, though I'm glad you're doing well currently. Yes, I work from home now, and will continue to after the pandemic.

I'll be in Boise for a day or two with two of my kids in July, and maybe in late June also, depending on how things develop. Maybe we can visit if our schedule allows, and if you remind me of how to contact you.
