help with random images

Every night when I lie down in my bed, eyes closed but still fully awake, I get completely random images of things. A lot of times of things or people that I have never consciously seen before. This has also happened when I was standing in the shower with my eyes closed, so I obviously couldn't have been falling asleep. Sometimes its just images and sometimes I'll see a small scene of someone doing something. Like I'm watching them from somewhere else. I usually don't recognize any of the images or scenes and have no idea what they mean if they do that is. Occasionally I can hear things too, but they usually don't make much sense. I've read about the hypnagogic stage and how people can get random images, but I don't think they would get them every night or just whenever their eyes are closed. Just curious if this happens a lot to others or if anyone had any idea about what causes this or what it might mean. Thanks.

What kind of images do you see? Are they physically appearing in front of you, or is it more an active imagination? Do things look cartoonish, realistic, or have an odd color scheme? You also see several seconds worth of pictures, not just a still frame, correct?

I too have similar experiences, normally when it's dark, but we are probably few and far between. Other than seeing, I tend to smell one of several perfume scents. Tell me, if you close your eyes and really hold them shut, do you start to see almost a geometric pattern growing? I can also do the same by rubbing my eyes. I find I am relaxed when my senses are operating at a maximum.

Here's my theory. I think people have more than just a physical body. They have multiple bodies, each with their own sensory inputs. What this means is you have other eyes, other ears, that can see or hear. Normally, they are not active, and most people don't ever think to enable them. That's why most people are completely unfamiliar with them. You on the other hand, have enabled some of these and do perceive from your non-physical inputs. I think dreaming is a perfect example. I believe when we dream, we observe the dreamscape through eyes, or maybe just one eye, from a non-physical body. When we imagine something "in our mind" it is actually happening somewhere that we are observing.

All these other bodies are our interfaces to higher dimensions. Seeing what you do means you are dialed in to these higher dimensions, unlike others, and that is really a good thing. The higher the dimension, the more spiritual or closer to God it is. Consider this a great gift. On a side note, the different dimensions can be seen in dreamscapes by noticing how bright the light in the environment. I'm sure your dream environments are sometimes brighter than they are on a sunny day on Earth.

The images happen when my eyes are closed, and they are usually very random and of real things. Sometimes the images are just completely weird I guess. Sometimes they are of kind of demonic looking things. Other times I will see random small snippets of scenes that seem to have no real meaning... like a person getting out of their car and walking. I have no idea if it's just imagination or something more like you said. If it is something more is there any way to harness this and make it useful??

Interesting comment. Usually after I smoke a little (well, a lot :roll:) of marijuana, I can just close my eyes and be entertained for minutes! Not hours, for the "high" only lasts about an hour and a half at max, but for minutes. I just close my eyes and watch... I see the most creative imagery I've seen in awhile. You ever watch the Winamp or WMP visualizations? Well, I have things like those.
One visualization in a repeating pattern across my eyes, which morphs into another, and then another and so on... The most memorable one I have if the dancing "E." It's just the letter "E," repeating over and over so that's the only thing I can visualize, and they are all just doing a little dance, in synch, and just... turns into something else. I like it, kind've weird though.

undothemystery, if it is something higher, what it means is some of your visual inputs are coming online. Basically, you can make something more of it by permanently tuning in instead of just fading in and out of these scenes. Continuing to relax by meditation or concentration should give you the control you need that will either result in a WILD, an AP, or an OOBE. Those are the three big ones. According to my theory just think you have this figured out, you have the control, and eventually it will work itself out.

It seems like you are all over the charts as far as what you see. You did not specifically answer my questions about color or motion. I'm guessing all of the above to my questions. Also, I'd like to know how visible things are rendered or perceived. Do you see an outline, silhouette, hologram or a clear 3D textured figure?

Also, I don't see anywhere in the rulebooks where imagination, or recalling memories, cannot be one of these inputs one may tune.

I haven't noticed anything peculiar about the color schemes. They seem to be like they would be in real life. Sometimes they are actions scenes like I mentioned of a guy walking out of his car, and I was just watching. Other time they are just random pictures popping up for no apparent reason. They only come when I'm not really thinking of anything. If I try to force them its not the same. They seem totally spontaneous, and I really don't know where they come from. The pictures seem to be 2-dimensional... just like a normal picture would kind of look. The action ones seem to be similar to watching a movie... so I suppose more 3-dimensional. The themes of the pictures and scenes are completely random though. Sometimes they are just random and sometimes they are gruesome and somewhat demonic in nature I guess. Maybe it is just my imagination, but it doesn't feel similar to anything else my imagination comes up with so I really don't know.

It's all scientific, really.

There are these receptors on your eyes, right? There's dark receptors and light receptors. When you close your eyes, your dark receptors go all crazy, so your light receptors try to calm them down...this is what you are seeing.

Also, your eyelids aren't really thick...so even when its dark, light gets through your eyelids, and that's what you see. (IF there were no light in the room, then your eyes would never be able to adjust and you would never be able to see ANYTHING in the room, not even vague outlines, because light reflects off of objects and thats how we see things).

You don't ever really see objects. It's sorta like an ink blot test. Your mind is trying to make sense of the images it's receiving, and you're logic might transform it into a bird, or a lamp. (probably never anything really complex) Geometric patterns are probably the most common (especially when you close your eyes).

If you're still really confused, just look at a lightbulb for 30 seconds, directly. Turn away and close your eyes. The light has been burned into your corneas, and it will take a while to go away. Every light is burned into your corneas, but for some the light is less effective than others.

I know about the thing with the receptors in the eyes, and this is definitely different. It's not like you are just staring at the back of your eyelids and see shapes and stuff like that. It's more like I'll just be laying there or sometimes even when I'm standing, and a random scene or picture pops into my mind. I get faces a lot of people I don't know. It's completely random and seems to come from nowhere. It's usually when my mind is "clear" and I'm not doing a lot of conscious thinking, but I'm usually not even really close to sleep. I just have freed my mind up some. I'm not sure how else to explain it. It almost feels like it comes from somewhere else and these images just spontaneously pop into my mind. Any other thoughts or anyone else with similar experiences??
