      Half asleep Half awake

Alright sometimes when I take a nap, I usually dream but I feel like I'm awake the whole time, just ignoring the image. Once I awoken from my dream, but was thinking I never went to sleep yet. I can also hear sounds all the time if I leave my TV on. It's like I'm hearing the exact volume as I'd hear it in real life. Lately my naps feel like I've never went to sleep, but later on I'd remember them. I don't know what this is but I need to know. It's getting on my nerves cause sometimes I don't know if I ever went to sleep or not. Am I just staying consious? Is the WILD technique coming to me instead of me coming to it? I don't know, but I really want to know.

Sometimes it happens to me, too. I think with me it's because I'm in such a light stage of sleep that I still hear all the sounds of the day but just play it in my mind as being awake - but I'm actually napping. It's a weird feeling when you wake up.

I think this happens to me sometimes, too. I suspect that I don't actually have a direct way of knowing whether I fall asleep no matter when I do it--I just recognize things like sudden environmental changes (level of light outside) or forward jumps of time. Even when I dream, I usually don't realize I was dreaming or remember it until after a few moments of being awake (unless it was a lucid dream, when I know I'm sleeping by definition).

Lately I've been going into the "partially asleep" state a lot, too, where my mind involuntarily wanders and I'm only just sort of half-aware of it (I usually don't notice it until a few seconds after it occurs). Sometimes my mental images and sounds are so unusually clear that I'm not even sure if I just imagined them or actually saw/heard them. So that stage is confusing, because I have no idea whether it counts as sleep or not.

It's easy for me to detect if I try to relax by counting my breaths while falling asleep. When I start suddenly losing count or "miss" breaths every few moments for no apparent reason, it's usually because my mind goes into this mode. However, I don't notice this until it stops, if I don't fall completely asleep first.

I know exactly what you mean. I have the same feeling when i'm in a deep trace as i'm sleeping. I'm asleep, but a small part of the mind is still consious, and i'm aware of alot of things. Usually when i'm in this state, is when i start to have an OBE, which the first couple times it almost happened, it freaked me out because i never levated before, and was aware of it, and feeling my skin leave the bed, and put back on the bed.

Next time that happens to you. Try to stay in that state as long as possible and see what happens. And try to totally relax and don't even twitch a muscle.. It only happens to me when i'm laying on my back. If i'm any other way, it can't happen.

i know exactly what you mean. i'm glad someone mentioned how it's easier to get to those levels if you lay on your back. i've also noticed i have alot more luck with wild when laying on my back but it seems like the sleep paralysis and crazy body sensations is alot more intense in that postion. really weird
