Honestly I wouldn't say it was absolutely positively impossible. The reason being that we are all fragments of God whose power is infinite even in the smallest piece. So anything is possible, even in this realm.

Even here it is possible yes, but very very very very hard. And for you impossible I'd say, probally for anybody in this forum, as for 99,99% of the population. Such magic doesnt exist anymore I think, and if it does its locked away and nobody is going to find it, and if they do they wont be able to use or keep it away. We are not druids, druids dont exist anymore, real ones.
Here's a theory.
What if people used to shapeshift? But over time, it was "forgotten". The power to do it is still in our minds, but since we have not used it for millions of years, we can no longer use it.
The only way to "reactivate" it would be to pratice it often, and through the generations, if they praticed it too, it would "reawaken".
That of course implies that there has to be an actual method to practice this for it to be actually true.
None that I know of.
But if it is true it could be accessed through the "Akashic records".
It is possible. I've been working on it myself. It is one of my projects to be able to shapeshift at will in my lucid dreams.
Yeah you never know, long ago, maybe it wasnt a very hard thing to do, until we got so obsessed with technologically advancing that we ignored the gift given to us, and forgot it over time?
Seeker, lol. We are talking about really changing forms. As in real waking life. It is too bad magic like that seems to no longer exist. I would really love to be able to live for some amount of time during the time when things like that existed.

Actually it is possible. Stuff you do in lucid dreaming you can eventually do in real life. You just believe it is easy to do in a dream world, but in real world your believe is checked by your scientific mind trained by society. Shamans all over the world describe shape-shifters AND they come from being in the world of dreams...
In regards to just changing forms while lucid dreaming, yes I've done it and it is possible. Generally when you start you are a formless energy body, you take shape by doing more dreaming... ever look in a mirror while having a lucid dream? well next time try it.... make a task of finding a mirror then see your dream self in the mirror. even try looking at your hands, legs, etc... notice any differences? ;)
The technique used to achieve this might be 'bridging the dream'.
It's referred to in Merilyn Tunneshende's excellent book "The Rainbow Serpent".
One practices Dreaming (that is an advanced formed of lucid dreaming - more like regular OBE's where you extract nearly ALL your energy into your double, leaving just a dribble in your physical for basic respiration to continue.....this is NO 'astral projection', this is a full experience of your energy double)
Practicing this till it comes out of your ears (and over YEARS) FORGES your energy body till it is an exact duplicate of your physical in all modes of it's prowess.
Eventually (and I say EVENTUALLY) one can wake up in one's double and take on the day (Whoa), so who's to say you can't do this as a raven or a black cat if you have all the perceptual accoutrements stored effectively in your inventory for such an experience.
Before I die I want to forge my energy body to its best possible level.
Just enter Dreaming one more time and off you go with full awareness into what awaits us all...

dont think it would be possible in reality, i think everything has a certain blend of life force...like animals and mammals different ect......that would be screwing with the flow of thingsi rekon......as for us forgetting the ability wouldnt u think generations would have recorded stuff like that?

Joe is right about Dreaming being an advanced form of LD. And it is possible to go into "the double" or even shape and enpower the double. Actually all that knowledge originally comes from Carlos Castaneda in his journeys with Don Juan. It was expounded up later by numerous other people.
In regards to taking energy out of your body and putting it in the double, that's not quite how it works. In reality you strengthen and enpower both your body and your double with energy. Energy just grows at a faster rate with your double because in most people it is weak and neglected most of our lives because of society. You empower it and all kinds of stuff can happen.
Ah, but it's our thoughts and consequent perceptual filtering that prevent us from experiencing that which is a hidden potential.
When you've practiced Dreaming long enough,you wake up in the morning with certain definite 'knowns' in your expanding repository of knowledge.
One incontrovertible 'known' being that what you once thought you knew to be true about everything is just a shabby little set of weak lies - a laughable bit of gossip that everyone spread around and agreed upon without any further discourse upon the matter.
In Dreaming, you instantly KNOW what can be possible because you feel it through and through the marrow of your energy body bones ;-)
Therefore, you sense the immense potential of what was previously thought to be only a nice dreamy idea...

What I meant was the degree of focus of awareness you take into the double when you LEAVE your body...that is you make the double as powerfully alert and awake and "self-sustaining' just as if it were your physical.
It's the intent behind the action to create the desired effect - it's not necessarily the process itself.
I do this regularly - I know what Merilyn T. meant by it. It's just a set of words...and how we get lost in our words. Hm?

i totally agree with you about words, they trip you up when talking about this. doing works alot better.
intent is the power behind alot of this stuff, the mobility for doing is will. intent gets you started, will takes over and does the action.
if you read merilyn t., I suggest you read the original source of that whole shamanistic line, carlos castaneda and his journeys with don juan. To anyone interested in lucid dream, 'the art of dreaming' is an absolute masterpiece. for me it took the guesswork out of lucid dream and is a practical way to turn it into an artform.
i like how you said "know... through the marrow of your energy body bones" --- great description. alot of this stuff is just believing in yourself and knowning or having certainity you can do dreaming or have an obe, etc... then your fears/thoughts/misconceptions all fade away and you just 'be'.

Totally agree with you about "Art of Dreaming" - it gave me an immense power boost and took the very dull 'scientific' component out of Dreaming that otherwise-excellent authors like Steven La Berge saturate the whole 'Art' with.
Particularly love the endless possibilities that Carlos promotes in the book like the "twin positions" for learning to develop the technique of waking up "elsewhere"...
God, if that works, my assemblage point will never be the same ever again (literally)!

Nice to meet someone who has read Castaneda... I first read him like 10 years ago. Without a doubt his teachings pretty much totally changed my world, quite powerful indeed. I first read the Art of Dreaming and the I went with a friend to see Taisha Abelar speak at a bookstore once. She was amazing speaker in person. I got her book Sorcerer's Crossing and that pretty much blew me away and got me reading all the rest of the books.
the twin positions are quite interesting but have not done that yet... its a fascinating universe out there, I think we are just now discovering a small portion of it. It's great to find this website where so many people are part of that discovery.
The magic probably exists. Personally, applying my knowledge of magic, I believe it does exist.
But sadly because of how real magic works you'd either have to sell your soul to the devil to use it under the false assumption that your just using the powers of the earth or build your spiritual energy to feets beyond comprehension to apply such magic.
