      Relaxation Troubles

I own a soft $1400 pillowtop matress set I bought to help me relax after a long day.
I do martial arts (a Korean style called Hoi Jeon Moo Sool), which is very circular, so there is not much force on the joints. I do stretching in this art so I get pretty limber as well.

Anyway when I relax at night, my muscles sometimes get a little achy. I use brainwave generator to help me relax, and I go in and out of consciousness probably for an hour or so. The problem is, I cannot ever completely lose all feeling of touching my bed. Whether it be my legs or the back of my head.

I've done techniques similar to the 61-point technique, use hypnosis. I don't want to become dependent on any medication for relaxation, so I don't use any for that (just B6 to help with visualization).

Anyway, what am I doing wrong, or what would my body be telling me in that I cannot completely lose all feeling while still remaining conscious?

Oh wow, you know you invest a whole lot in relaxing...I don't though, here is what I do.

The big part of relaxing, initially at least, is stopping all the trains of thought. Get out of your head, and into the body. I have found that focusing on breathing is the best way to do this. As you inhale, make sure your diaphragm is rising. This is how we breathe as little kids, but somewhere along the way we reverse this and usually exhale as the diaphragm rises.

As far as your aches go, feel them radiate. In other word, spread the pain among your body. Just feel the pain going different directions, and it will respond to your thoughts. I don't know how else to describe it. Distribute the pain evenly all throughout your body, to minimize the amount of pain at any one spot.

From then, your physical body will go numb, and you will actually transfer your awareness into a non-physical body. It is possible to still be awake. By that point you should be plenty relaxed, although moving or thinking may snap you out of it. That's a good place to start, and it should take a while for you to be able to get there.

I count from 1 to 30 or more with rhythmic breathing, and with each number I visualize
and feel my body is getting more and more relaxed. Then I do Silva mind control with modilication and count from 3 to 1 telling myself :
when I say 3 my body will fall aslep and mynd stay awake. 3.
When i say 2 my mind will be perfect clear of all thoughts. 2.
When i say 1 I will be in theta state of mind.

Do not tell yourself that you won't feel your body any more because it can work like self hypnosis. I have fucked up myself with this one.

      Silva mind control?

What is the Silva mind control? I looked on the web, but all I found were very wordy references about Jose Silva.

OK I have made a mistake, it is not silva.
Silva has writen a book of mind control or whatever.

For Astral projection you will find this :

"Clear all your thoughts, In your mind say:
"I'm going to count down from 3 to 1, visualizing each number on a white orb suspended in the air above my head. When I reach the third and final "1" my body will be deeply relaxed. I will have no awareness of physical sensations. I will not perceive any physical discomfort. My consciousness will be focused on my astral body.
Now visualize a white orb suspended in the air above your head. Mentally focus on the orb I visualize a number "3" on the face of the orb. The numbers can be any color. They may vary with each experience. Visualize the 3 --three times: three number, "3's" on the orb. Your body is completely relaxed. You are losing awareness of your physical body.

Then repeat the visualization with three number, "2's." You are into greater relaxation. Now visualize the "1's." You are losing awareness of physical sensations. Your consciousness will be in your astral body. Repeat this using the number "1's" three times. Your consciousness is now in my astral body. This could involve training of several sessions. You may also find audiotapes that take you down into these altered states as well. You will get better and faster as you go along each time. There is no set agenda for how often you practice astral projection or any other out-of-body technique. It soon becomes fun. It is like a deep meditation. Now the key is to remain conscious while my body is asleep. Different thoughts may pull you from your focus as the mind loves to chatter. Just push these thoughts away. "

Well, I don't know how you are going to feel about this. Maybe this isn't what you are looking for.

Have you tried eating something with a high content of l-tryptophan before you go to bed? Milk, turkey; bananas. Tryptophan stimulates the production of Seratonin (sp) a chemical (neuro-transmitter?) associated with sleep and dreams. What usually happens is that you will fall asleep more quickly; your dreams should be longer; more conhesive and kind of novel-like; and because of this, dream recall is easier.

I did eat fish last night because it was recommended on this board for the production of neurotransmitters. I take vitamins as well. I'll try the turkey and milk. Banannas give me heartburn sometimes.

What would you say about Melatonin? Does it use a neurotransmitter that aids in REM?

      1. Relaxation isn't about not feeling your body.
      2. Western science has fucked you up. Whoever gave you the idea that you need
      - special neurotransmitters and substances
      - special matrasses
to relax or visualise is a douche. How about you learn to relax before you get pumped up with all kinds of redundant, worthless commercial shit because you can't do it. Meditation is not like watching TV or going on a fuckn holiday trip so pull your shit together and start it over. Same goes for sleep. Unless you have some sort of disorder that really needs medical treatment, there's no need to consider it in your diet. Man, it's really sad how neurobiology could be a great help for people but instead it makes most people feel as strangers trapped inside themselves, momentarily invading some sort of body that has all sorts of malfunctionings.

That was candidly put. Yes, there is no good substitute for hard work. I enjoy fish anyway, so it didn't hurt. As long as you get your vitamins and "neurotransmitters" through natural food, that is the way to go. I do take vitamins though to help with healing, as I plan to get a tattoo in a month.
