Heres a run down on the typical technique.
1. Relax, find a way to relax. What ever suits you, whether it be meditating, stretching, listening to some music while laying down. Stretching limbs is deffinately a good one, as it leaves the person refreshed, and feeling light.
2. Put body to sleep (or more formally induce sleep paralysis).
There are a various ways of doing this, one thing you can do is lie down on a nice open surface, such as your bed. A good position to lie down in, is directly on your back, as it does not constrict any of your limbs, and also has the most minute effect on your breathing patterns. Preferably in your head, talk to your body parts, tell yourself they are falling asleep. Here is an example.
"Well hello foot, you have been working very hard to keep me walking around all day, for that I salute you. However, I think you are well overdue for a nice break. Just relax... Fall asleep and drift away."
Continue this on from your toes, to your head and face. It is especially important not to move, keep your breathing constant. This might take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. If you start to see flashing lights, or hear noises. Do not be afraid, as it is only your mind. After a while you will be in a state of sleep paralysis.
*Clears voice* Another technique I have found that works quite well, is to just stay completely still, it does sounds hard, but you just GOTTA do it. Try not to think to hard on one subject, but think of how your day went. How tomorrow should go. Mix it up a little, as you might be in the same position for a while. After awhile you will notice your body feeling lighter, (or heavier), or it will get a tingly feeling over it. Personally, with both of these two techniques I know when I start to enter sleep paralysis because my hands feel like they have been turned over. I keep my hands palm down beside my body.
3. Stay Passive (Trance Out) I guess this step is self explanatory. Stay very passive, try to clear all thoughts from your head. Think of nothing but darkness. At this point you might feel mild to severe vibrations. Or even a rocking effect, such as that of a wavy sea. You might feel people poking you, pinching you, even sitting on you. People will whisper in your ear, you may even get brief flashes of hypnotic imagery. But yes, the key is just to stay passive, let it all come, and let it all go. If thoughts arise in your head, just try to push them to the side, but not completely away. Some people find it extremely difficult to think of nothing, so if you have problems with it, id suggest meditation, or a simple technique wich involves picturing your thoughts rise in clouds above your head, and floating away. Visualization can be a very helpful part of OBE, if it suits you. As stated above, this step puts you in a trance. So I like to call it "trancing out."
4. Leave your body. Well, I suppose this is where many people find trouble, some say the best way to leave your body is to "just" let it happen. Unfortunately not everyone can just let it happen, so id suggest experimenting whilst staying passive. The feeling of leaving your body deffinatlely varies for many, some become aware after they trance out, and find themselves laying on the floor of their room in an astral state. Some however feel much more, and are totally aware as they "forcefully pull out." Typically they feel constricted breathing, and heavy feeling over their body. If you have been pulled out of body, you will know it. Go ahead and have a look at your hands, usually peoples hands look very peculiar in OBE's.
5. Dont get scared. If you start to get scared at any time, you can always will yourself out of it, and try another night, Its all good 8). Remember, getting out is only the tip of the iceberg, but is usually the most frusterating.
Well, I hope you have found this helpful.
Its 2:30 here and im going to bed, good night.
