My first OBE... sortof... can someone mentor me?

Perhaps I need a mentor in this area.
I'm pretty darned good at lucid dreaming, but I've only had one halfway decent attempt at OBE, and it scared me so bad that I was immediately scared off for a little while. It scared me because it WORKED!

I first tried this, strictly out of curiosity, and didn't expect anything to work.
I followed the steps, went into sleep paralysis, stayed in there for a few seconds. The next step was to project my consciousness outside my body. I projected it one foot away from my face. The instant I did this, I saw two bright flashes. The first one was triangles. Lots of triangle, all over, in a formation. The second was a face, about a foot away from me, looking back at me.
The whole process only took a couple of minutes, from laying down to my experience.
These flashes... I've seen hypnagogic imagery. I have explored every corner of lucid dreaming. I've never seen anything like that. Perhaps it was not an OBE, or the beginning of one, but whatever it was, it was unlike anything I've ever experienced, and I have to find out what it was.
It scared me so bad that I didn't go back to it for about a year, but I knew that I had to come back eventually. I had to know...
Now it's time for me to try it again.
Could someone, perhaps, coach me, like an adoption, but for just OBEs?

I ususually use the "roll-over" technique.

Your first OBE will be the most amazing one. I felt excited, scared, amazed, confused, happy, everything all at once in my first concious, with somewhat blurred vision, great difficulty moving, OBE But while I was separating, and having vision of the edge of the bed below me, and seeing myself move toward the middle of the room, and feeling myself floating that way, I was freaking out, but I let it continue, because it was soon to be followed by the all the feeling and more that I described above.

What I saw while separating, the booming noise, the intense vibrations in sleep-paralysis I had before, the feeling of myself leaving my body, I will never forget.
