      Ghost, eh?

This happened to me a while back, maybe a year ago...
It was four or so in the morning and I awoke suddenly for no reason. I kinda gazed across the room and saw this strange white shape of a man in jogger's pants moving around in my room. My first reaction was sheer panic and in half a second my tired, crazed mind was thinking everything at once. Was it one of my friends? Was it a serial murder come to kill and/or rape me? After a couple of moments, I turned on the light near my bed and the shape disappeared completely. It took me a while to go back to sleep after that. Needless to say, I had to go to sleep with the light on.

When I told this to a couple people, they all had different theories. A theory from one of my friends was that it was someone many years back who had died in my house and I'd seen their ghost. After telling me this, my friend urged me to research the history of my house (I live in a really old cottage, btw.) I'm a bit skeptical of the whole ghost thing, but I didn't overrule the possiblity. Another theory someone suggested was that there is a memory imprint in my room from the past and what I saw was a memory of something that had already happened there. (Sounds a bit coo-coo, but kinda cool I guess.) The last theory was that I had been dreaming right before I had woken up and my eyes had projected what I had been seeing in the dream for a couple seconds.

So... what do you people think about this? Any ideas? Has this ever happened to you?

I'm going for the last explanation. (though don't completely rule out the others until you know they aren't correct)

But the residual senses thing has happened to me a few times. It seems that, when waking up, the waking world senses can often kick in at different times. Most recently I had a nightmare where this guy was trying to break in my window and I could hear him outside talking to a whole crew of people that were with him. I woke up for real and could still hear them conversating for a good 20 seconds after I was fully awake before it died out. I've also had dreams longer ago where my body would be awake, and I could feel my bed and that I was laying down horizontally on it, but I was still seeing what was in my dream. Very creepy, but I don't think it was much more than that, in your case, either.

When my daughter was young, she had similar dreams a lot.

What we finally discovered was that she was having out-of-body experiences but would wake up just before the body returned. She often saw the ghost body returning.

I'm not saying that her experience was the same as yours, just that this was the explanation in her case.

I used to wake up and see things and they would vanish after a while - I sorta concidered them 'dream-after-images'

      BUT

none...NONE of my 'dream-after-images' walked. they were stationary. there was one time a girl in blue jeans, and short brown hair, walked up to my bed. when she got to my bed she disappeared. I freaked out. I concider that one a ghost experience. Why? Well my sister saw her face, some weeks earlier and while my sister saw her face my dad heard her laughing. My mom kept waking up to hear someone messing around with pots and pans - she would come downstairs to yell at us - but there was no one in the kitchen.

my cat, was TERRIFIED of my room. if she was left alone in my room, she would run out and run down the stairs. she will then look up from the bottom of the stair case with large black eyes and ears pricked up. sometimes she ran down so fast she would slip at the bottom of the stair case and crash into the front floor.

we didn't take note of her behavior at first - our cat is kinda silly and quirky. but after a while it started to bother us, she would always look up at the top of the stair case like something was there - freak out and run to us. when all the lights were off upstairs..I was a dumb little girl and too scared to go by myself. So I would PUSH kitty up the steps "GO KITTY...GO!!". She'd take one look up. Prick up her ears and run back down. That didnt help my fears of the dark XD

my sister, who is PARANOID about the supernatural and did a prayer, a christian prayer that is supposed to remove unwanted spirits from your home. ever since then every thing seemed normal - except I kept having nightmares about an evil spirit in my bedroom, and I would have to run down the stairs to escape him. the evil spirit in my bedroom though..was male not female....

so was my family just stupid and imaginative? get this

      months later

our neighbors are moving out. its an apartment building so we are wall to wall with our neighbors. we never talked to our neighbors, people move in and out so often it never mattered. but we were all outside at the time while they were packing. so our parents ask

      "you guys moving out already?"

and the wife tells us "to be honest, its becuase my husband can't sleep at night...he............um..keeps seeing a girl. shes got short brown hair and blue jeens and a t-shirt on. no one sees her but him. the children have heard her laughing though."

my sister, who did the prayer, found it amusing that the ghost moved next door.

I know people find ghosts to be a skeptical thing. but its a very common experience - chances are some one you know closely claims to have seen one already. if this is a 'dream-after-image', it'll be a one time thing! if it IS a spirit- you'll find out, becuase it wont be the last time

      ***************

ps..we moved out! our dad stayed two days extra in the old apartment cleaning up after our mess. he tried sleeping upstairs..but....said he kept feeling like SOMETHING was there. so he slept downstairs. and my dad works the night shift and has been working the night shift for over ten years. most nights he works alone, some nights he as even walked to work - were not talking about a guy who is easily creeped out by the dark or being alone at night

in our new apartment, I have yet to have ANY DREAMS about an evil spirit in my bedroom. You see, I thought I was having those dreams becuase I was scared of the dark and all - but I havent had any more. And my cat. Shes normal now. Shes not afraid to be alone in my room, even with the lights out

Oneironaut: Yes, the dream crossover thing sounds to me like the most plausible also. I'm surprised that the sounds from your dream lasted so long! That's really creepy.

      jmacmanus: Wait... how did you know she was having out-of-body experiences? o_o;;
Juroara: That is a freakin' crazy story! Haha, I still get afraid of the dark to this day, and I'm an 18 year old. Haha. So sad.

My daughter has had out-of-body experiences most of her life.

I also have out-of-body experiences and can meet her and track her and/or talk to her.

Perhaps it was from your previous dream, but then again, it could've also been a ghost. It has somewhat happened to me as well, except it was an old man. He appeared hazy and gray.

I'd have to agree with "after images and sounds" from a dream. I have been sitting at work, after having just woke up probably 10-15 mins earlier, and saw these incredibly bright white lights dancing in the sky, thousands of them, and they weren't stationary, they were dancing like crazy. If I would stare directly at the sky, I couldn't see them, but if I focused on the trees just below the horizon I could see them very cleary in my peripheral vision. It freaked me out at first and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This happened about 2 weeks ago. I tried "shrooms" last summer for the first time, and boy, what an experience. However, since then, my vision has changed. I can't explain it, I didn't even notice it at first, but it's almost like I had tunnel vision or something before I did the shrooms. I can look at a tree now when the wind is blowing, and instead of focusing on one part of the tree, I see the whole tree, and it's very freaky. I can do this sober, and it's like the tree is alive. I wish I could explain it...

As far as ghosts are concerned, my grand-mother told me a story. When she was little she was outside and saw a man in her yard. She said he bent over, like he was tying his shoe, and instead of tying his shoe he went straight into the ground and dissapeared, so I dunno.

I think that our conscious mind and sub-conscious mind are going to merge into one. Think about it, how can you be awake and see, and feel something, that you know defy's everything you have been taught. I think that UFO's might be a result a this. Who knows....

Ghosts don't wear athletic sweat pants.

      Yoga Instructors do.

You have received a visit from the future.

someday you will have a Yoga or Mediation Instructor who will take a particularly strong interest in you. What had happened to you was that he had visited you on some preliminary business -- to check your aura or whatever.

You might think of it as a kindly and benevolent spirit looking over you. sort of giving you some spiritual or even some mundane protection.

Aha! ...Why didn't I think of that before!? Everything's so clear now! I saw my future yoga/meditation teacher in a sort of... prophetic vision! His spirit came down to me! Golly! ... Thank you Leo. Thank you for opening my eyes to the truth!

And yet it is so much more reasonable to suppose you are being haunted by a dead jogger.
