I just prefer not to.
I wish I could choose my beliefs.Quote:

Why can't you choose your beliefs?
I take in the world the way I see it and my beliefs are based on that, not my desires. If I could, I would pick an over simplified belief structure just to make me happy, but even if I want to believe it, doesnt mean I will. What if a kid finds out there's no Santa Clause? Can he choose to believe there is still? Can Neo chose to believe there is no Matrix, and go back to normal life? If you have a way, please let me know.

Yeah you can. It's easy. It's called denial.

Santa Clause doesn't exist??
I deny this information and still believe in him.
It was a hypothetical. Of course he exists! Who else delivers lots of expensive gifts to the rich kids and a few things to the poor ones?Quote:

I'd say that we have about a 50/50 chance of making it to the year 2100 as a civilization. Here are some of the obstacles in our way:
- Nuclear War
- Meteor Impact
- Viral Epidemic
Those are the obvious ones, but there are a ton more. Did you know that everytime they smash atoms together in a particle accelerator that there is a 1 in 50 million chance that it creates a mysterious particle called and "strangelet" that would grow by destroying and consuming matter around it, eventually consuming our entire planet and everything on it.
1 in 50 million might sound like a long shot, but consider the fact that when designing a nuclear power plant, if there is a 1 in 50 trillion chance of failure, they do a complete redesign. Scary stuff.
In compliance with my utter obsession of hating Bush and anybody who supports him- If Bush gets reelected, the end of the world will happen.
That's the kind of attitude I like :D :D . I don't like Bush either. He's power hungry. First Iraq, then THE WORLD, I can feel it.Quote:

Ending of the wrold in 2012... And you said it was because the Southern icecap would be pulled by the suns gravitational pull? of all the things, that seems like the MOST unlikely thing to happen, but hey, this book sounds interesting. Im very into things like this, so expect me to read it :) I think the end of our world will be with some conflict with another plane of existence. Probably another race from another dimension, who knows!? Aliens might even make us their slaaaaves, which wouldn't be a good thing
and oh yes, the Orion's belt constelation is MILLIONS of lightyears away. Its so far that the whole constellation might not even exist, we just think it still could because the light is still reaching us. Light from something millions of years ago. If you think about it, its almost like looking into the past :D
[Is this an old topic? Don't know. oh dear].
I really expect we'll live. Us humans are fantastic at adapting. Though we do put ourselves in stupid risks (let's go make a radioactive power plant!)
A bit old...check the post dates! But who cares...its not old anymore :P
We dont put our selves in stupid risks huh? you mean like smoking and doing drugs arent stupid? :| [/quote]
He said that we do put ourselves at stupid risks.
Yes. I did.
oh woops  excuse me on that
I only read the first post so don't flame me for reading the last 7 pages. I believe that this is very possible, and although his conclusions might be wrong, I've been sensing a strong sensation about this ever since I was 10. Do you ever have that feeling, where you sense the potential of another? Well I have that feeling about soul existance, I believe something is going to happen, and it might not just be planet Earth, but existance overall. PM me if you wish to talk about this subject, for I don't want to scare certain unsuspecting readers.
As for the reason, I could be completely wrong, but my mind has pushed me to believe this. The global warming is becoming will create our armegeddon. As the to poles heat up, our temperature will begin to change and the world axis will freeze up, meaning no central heat to rotate the planet. Overall... Doom.
How will this be caused? It's so simple we looked right over it. Man is creating sin, all because they wish to control order. Many manmade creations are breaking up the ozone layer of which the suns rays are projected on us. For example, the increase of cities, pollution, light, self made heat is breaking that ozone layer on which the Earth rotates within. Ultimately, the south/north pole will begin to melt and with that, life's preservation will slowly end. I believe Earth has experienced something like this before far in that past, and it might happen again and again, until the sun is no more.
How can we prevent this, we can't... society has changed so much that we have doomed everything. We need to regain our primal intincts and omniscient views on life.
Yeah.. so I think we better perfect traveling in outer space and find ourselves a new planet. Otherwise we're doomed, like you said!
I hate how humans seem so much like a disease.
The end of the world will maybe not come soon, but indeed it will be man who will cause it.
My opinion: Rod Serling should have become president.
It may or may not happen. Who here can decide what happens until it happens?
And you aren't even of voting age! D:>Quote:

We're not deciding anything here...just discussing it, I guess.
...You know earth has been around for ages...why would it bugger up in 2012? I mean there was this whole "2000 IS DOOM" thing in, er, 1999. This is probably no different.
Wooo, this topic is still alive!
But, I heard that the Bible Code ext. can be stoped.
Well the bible codes are mainly christain because they're from the bible. So i can see from the viewpoint of a person that might not believe them cause they're not christain.
