I've heard it mentioned several times, but have no idea what an OBE is.
Any help?
And in case I decide I like what it is, how is it attained?

An OBE is an (as yet, scientifically unproven) Out of Body Experience.
Basically, it's an experience where your mind (supposedly) leaves the physical confines of your own body and is able to travel any/everywhere, while your body stays in one spot.
Some people believe in them, some don't, so that's as far as my explanation goes, because I don't have any experience with them.
If you do a search on OBE, I'm sure you can find a lot of information on it.
Hope this helps.
Oh, and Welcome to Dream Views.
Thanks!
Yeah what Oneironaut said. You can think of it as a Lucid Dream where you start out in the room that you fell asleep in, and you can see your body still lying there.
Research Robert Monroe or Robert Bruce for more info on it.
Oh. I thought those were just (ab?)normal dreams. It's like dreaming in the third person, almost...
Its slightly different then that. OBEs/OoBES (Out Of Body Experiences) are triggered by "Astral Projection." This is having your "Astral Self" leave your physical body, allowing your mind too wander the world while your physical body sleeps. Meaning, you actually leave your body behind.
However, some people believe that AP and OBES are just normal dreams. I too have no real experience on the subject, so I can't really say whether OBES are real or just intense dreams.
OBE (AP) = BS IMO!
I've successfully tried OBE/AP methods in my youth when I was less cynical about these things. However I could never tell the difference between OBE and WILDs (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream) where I chose to look at my sleeping body before going adventuring. LDing seems a more likely explanation for the phenomenon.
Robert Bruce - AP guru, claims you can easily prove OBE by putting a random playing card, face up on your top shelf without looking at it - then check it out when projecting.
I haven't tried this.
So, I can't be certain...
Hm. That sounds cool. I have all these things I want to do in my dreams now. I should probably start going to sleep earlier, because the later I go to sleep, the less control I have.
