      Dream Geography

I am starting to believe that there is a consistent geography within my dreams...

I think I might attempt to map it out...

Last night I dreamed of the river side again, I have different dreams in this same locale - the highway cloverleaf leading to a bridge over a foggy river, etc.

Any thoughts... Anyone with similar impressions

I made a similar post some time back talking about my personal dream geography. It is fairly consistent, and covers the entire globe, but with most detail in one part of the US. I've connected most of it together in my head, but I haven't drawn it out yet.

I started a thread in the dream journal section - I am going to attempt mapping out my dream geography

I was doing this, and doing pretty well too. Then one night I had a dream with like 7 different locations and that kinda screwed it all up.

Yep, I tried it as well. The same places exist in different locations.

It would take some sort of custom software to do it properly. Either that or a series of smaller maps.

Although I'd really love a hand drawn dream map on my wall in the style of those old sea maps. You know the ones with sea monsters everywhere. Someday...

Well, I have persistent dream versions of different places, if that's what you mean? I've had different dreams, but the locations were the same.

I have a dream version of where I grew up for instance, which is kind of altered from how it looks in reality, but whenever I dream about it, the alterations are the same in each dream. I have been all over this dream version landscape trough different dreams, and it's like "behind that hill I had that dream, and in that house I had that dream", and I could really draw a map of where everything is in relation to other places.

If this wasn't based on places that I've actually been to in real life, I would have freaked out and thought I had found a real place in the dream world.

A friend of me has experienced that though. He has this very mysterious space center far out in the galaxy or somewhere, where he always returns to when he dreams. There's even recurring dream characters there that waits for his arrival, and he even knows their names. One is a girl from France, who gave him her phone number once. He never called though because he didn't want to find out if it was real or not. He doesn't really like this place because apparently he's witnessed some very dark and upsetting things there. I could tell you a lot about this, because he's been dreaming about this place for several years now, and they're very detailed. As a person, he has a great talent for music, but there's no way he could just make all of this up, because he does not have that kind of imagination or creativity. Not counciously at least.

So, eh.. if you know someone else that have been dreaming about a space station called Odessa, please let me know, ok?

Feels like I should maybe make a dedicated thread about this, but I'd have to consult with my friend first I guess, since it's his dreams not mine.

That's pretty interesting... in my own dreams I have one or two places that I've dreamt about a few times, and one or two characters as well. Sortof like I've had the same dream a few times, although slightly differently (so I wouldn't really classify it as recurring).

So like, I know in one house I can fly there, and normally in the same way (kinda like a bent-over floating technique lol), and in another place in the river there is a poisonous snake, and by the sea the sharks aren't dangerous.

But I haven't really been successful in LDing so I haven't really had a chance to explore, so I wouldn't be able to draw up a map of how it connects, only maybe a map of connections or correspondences.

      Good luck with your map!

As an aside, could this be similar to a memory palace, but with dream info as opposed to conscious information?

I had heard the term memory palace before but never knew what it was - so I wiki'd it and - yeah - this really seems to be what I am trying for - of course, this dream geography seems somewhat more elusive but I think it is a step in the right direction

the 'map' I have started so far looks more like a list of locations but hopefully I might one day be able to somehow connect them [that is the theory I am working with for now - at least]

Thanks - there is actually a handy tutorial for creating a memory palace that I think might prove useful for this exercise: http://www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Memory-Palace

I actually heard about it in a book - Season of the Witch.
The idea is quite interesting - it might be easier in dreams though as you actively go to your "memory palace" (if i can call your dream map that) regularly.

I mean, if your dream geography is consisten right, as in every time you see your old school it's the same, then a memory palace should be fairly easy to build on that if you can map out the geo as you're trying to do?

      Interesting...

I've made a few attempts over the weekend, and it's nothing but problems, problems, problems!

Once again, scale being the biggest. Small detailed maps of single dreams are useless, and you just can't resist trying to piece them together into a larger map. But then you have to sacrifice a lot of detail.

Plus there the problem of how to include the relevant portions of your dreams in the map. It's got to have something different to make it a dream map, otherwise it's just boring.

Anyone ever read the Dragonlance books and know what a Kender Map is? In the books, the Kender are notoriously bad map makers, and map out things like a vicious dog that tried to bite them, or a shiny rock instead of relevant landmarks. That might not be a bad approach in this instance.

That is a great analogy in that the dream is so subjective, ethereal, ephemeral, etc. I have just started by documenting as much as I can remember about the places [appearance, size, sounds, etc.] a little bit of what occured there and am hoping if I keep this up for awhile a pattern may start to emerge [or not - but what the heck!]

What Speed Do You Travel At With Astral Travelling?

I have travelled far with Astrall Travelling and I would like to know the speed you travel at with Astral Travelling in either MILES per HOUR or KILOMETERS per HOUR. Does it even have a different unit of Measurement?

That one I really have no answer for, though I suppose it would be something to try and figure out while the experience is happening - it might act as a good RC.

      The Speed must be venonomal!

In Astral Travelling I have been on other Earth like Planets seeing other Civilisations LIGHT YEARS AWAY FROM EARTH. So I feel we can travel at speed of LIGHT YEARS per HOUR. I see that from astral travelling we may be able to develop technology to physically travel the expanses of space in short times.

Is it just me, or did the subject of the thread suddenly change from one thing to another. Oh, and I have the same things fixed in the same places. But how would you start a map of it? I mean...where would you even begin?

That is a tough one, and I have to admit that since beginning this project I have found it difficult to map spacially. I suppose my original idea has evolved into more of a dream travelogue - where I just try and document the locations rather than some of the more ephemeral content of the dream.

I've been trying to post links with my dreams in my DJ to previous dreams that are related to the same area. Sort of chaining them together. It's a start in the right direction to dream mapping, but I wish I had started earlier.

How could an astral map be drawen? I have travelled to other earth like planets via astral travelling, so if you astral travel you can draw a map. Like all travelling you can go in any direction without aim or objective or you can stear your course and plan a final destination.

Speed, is no problem. Go as fast as you wish.

Yet, if everything becomes a blur, you'll get confused and probably lost.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

      Filana

I met a girl named Filana on the bus in my dream last night

      she was tall and thin

      brown hair

an actual personality [if you will] - felt like somebody from another place but oftentimes it does anyway.

      she wore jeans

the bus raced through the open night not stopping on a large highway - a highway, not an expressway, through the cities
