      Slowing Down Time

In alot of movies, ive seen people move really fast (like in over the hedge or matrix or stuff) and kinda makin time go slower. I know thats just all in movies, but it kinda sounds kool.

Have any of you ever read anything about moving so fast, that time kinda slows down for you? So you think your going slow, but in reality your going super fast? And everyone and everything around you starts to move really slow?

I find it intriguing to say the least.

Im sure everyone who has read a little bit knows that we travel in the 4th demension, but we can only travel in one direction of it. We cant use the whole 4th demension, as we only move forward in time, and not backward in time, or stopping time completley.

Maybe if we could go back in time one second, and forward in time for one second, and keep switching out, backward forward, but geez i dont even know if its possible.

Just kind of something to think about, if one person really could slow down time, it would be very cool. You could do anything pretty much.

      Any other opinions?

I've had a dream like this. I won't explain the entire thing, but I was a viking-esque warrior. At some point my movement became sluggish and I thought I was slowing down, until I realized that the hoard of attackers coming to kill me were moving even slower than I was. I easily fought off 50 plus attackers with my hightened speed and even faster awareness.

Time is the measure of action. It can't be slowed down because it doesn't exist literally, only figuratively. So, the only way to get the desired effect is to move faster and thus requiring a faster reaction speed. However, the time won't slow down for you then, you won't be in some slowed version of reality where you can take longer to make decisions at normal speed. You'll be moving at extreme speed and that's why you'll need the faster reaction speed to handle it.

i think you can train yourself to have faster reaction time to the point where it seems like things slow down a little bit, but nothing extreme like in the movies

personally I used to box guys all the time in highschool, and from my point of view, with the adrenaline pumping, when I got into the heat of the fight, it was almost as if time slowed down, punches were flying super fast but there were always these moments of almost standstill clarity or super fast thought or whatever you want to call it where time seemed to almost stop and I was able to make many decision almost at the same time

one example that comes to mind is this one fight I had backed the guy up against a wall and it was like in those kung fu movies where he punched and I kinda watched his fist go by my head and at the same time I saw an opening in his guard and like in slow motion I put a perfectly executed uppercut into his gut, and slammed a right hook into the side of his face, awesome KO

other times that time seems to slow down for me is when I am reading, I get cought up into the books flow of time and in the span of reading for twenty minutes it feels to me like I have been reading for hours

oops, im ranting, sorry anyway, good thread

If your moving faster, then everything else will seem to move slower...

So...to get the same effects, you could slow down time.

Slowing down time is possible in a dream, yes. I have also had other people move at extreme speeds, while i'm moving slower.

I have ran at super speed as well, but my brain didn't think any faster.

Time. Is. A. Measure. Of. Action.

      It isn't an independant energy/object/etc.
It can't be slowed down because it doesn't exist. There is no such thing as time, only the concept used to describe how long something took to do.

Wow i wasnt expecting such a large topic. Anyway though, yes i agree with Merlock as time being a representation of the forward motion of the 4th demension.

Hey Mr. Faded glory, can you explain further?

And yes, i was thinking that if you move really fast and you get your reaction and thought skill up, you can make everything else seem insanly slow. But could you ever get it so that if you see, as an example, a lady accross the parking lot about to drop her milk carton, and you can go and save it before it hits the ground.. and then return back to your original position so that the lady has no idea who did it? It would be pretty kool if the human body could work that way..

Speaking of, do you guys think when your astral you could slow down time..? I dont see how it could help, because you are pretty much invisible, but it might be a way to get started..?

You could but that's the point I'm trying to make: the time wouldn't slow down for you. You'd still be moving at 100000 km per second and your reaction would (need to) be relative to that. You wouldn't be moving at regular speed like it's shown in a lot of fiction while everything around is hardly moving. You'd be moving insanely fast, with insanely fast reflexes and making insanely fast actions. The only difference between you and others would be that you have those reflexes and can handle the insane speed just like you can handle normal speed and they can't at lack of such reaction.

Ahh ya see Merlock thats what i mean, it would be incredible for a person to get those skills and be able to use them like that. It would make the news, but have you ever heard of anything like this happening?

I dissagree...if your brain is moving faster, then you comprehend faster..which means things would seem to go slower (because the speed at which you see your own thoughts would be moving faster.). You yourself would see no difference in your own speed because your own perception would be much faster. Now what that means in perception to things other than yourself...I wouldn't know. However, to yourself, you would not feel any faster than you normally are (aside from the feeling of effects such as external stuff like air, water, gravity, etc.)

Of course not. The explanation is simple: power comes with reason and wisdom. Someone with the wisdom and knowledge to use magic will also have a very meaningful reason for it. Hence, there would be no need to bring it to the public. It would remain personal. No one will ever gain any kind of power beyond the usual in society out of curiosity. The power of intent is what drives all things. And intent always comes with meaning, with reason for action.

This is what i was hoping to find out if it was real enough. Could anyone train there brain to think that fast? Or is it just simply out of the question to do so?

I dont think your physical reactions can be increased too much, your body and muscles have limit, but I think you could increase you thought processes to amazing speeds to where its almost like things slow down a bit

isnt that what autism (however you spell it) is? a heightened brain activity, thinking at super speeds, the average person only utilizes about 2% (or is it 4%) of their brains, if you could learn to utilize more than that stuff would seem a lot slower I think

Autism is actually percieving things in a differnet manor, I don't think its percieving things at faster speeds.

its supposedly 10%, and its a lie anyway, its only that you use 10% at a time, but different parts of your brain function at different times...for different purposes, it would be possible to use all of them at once, but it would not make you any stronger or faster/smarter to do so.

Ya, on the show Kyle XY i saw that they said the normal person only uses 8%, and people like einstein used 10%, and thats why he was so smart. If someone could use a bunch, say 50% of there brain power, at one time, would that cause more reaction, and then maybe have the power to slow things down with your mind so you can do things alot faster?

Lol ok I might be wrong, but I think they are lieing to you about Einstien... Keep in mind these shows are written by people who like to twist reality to fit "their" story line.

You do use the maximum functionality of comprehension from you brain...the other %'s of your brain control different things....and using them all at once wont do anything except maybe overload/hurt you to the point of brain failure.

There is a link somewhere....on this site...I think it may be in the "what if psychic blah blah is real" or some kinda thread like that title that basically debunks the "maximise your brain potential" stuff. It is not a video, it is merely a text website with a few diagrams to help you understand the propaganda that originated with Uri Gellar and other has beens.

If i could slow down time i would go join the NHL as a goalie and make rediculas saves non stop and always get a shutout.

The "we only use X% of our brains" is supposedly a myth. Although Einstein did have a slight difference in a part of the brain.

This is probably different but sometimes when i play video games as the one i used to play it's really fast speeds it would seem as if time slowed down when i'm playing and sometimes it's too fast i can't keep up. I'm sure it's nothing like this but a mental thing, though.

i don't think we use only X% of our brain. maybe we use all of it but its just that we know ONLY some parts of it. we dont know what the rest of it is for. i mean ppl know like 4 or 5 parts of the brain (not sure) they dont know the rest of it but that doesnt mean we dont use it. the 8% is the part we know. btw, i've been always interested in that question: if we have like 4 parts that we know for exemple the part for the eyes, the hearing, the smell, and the part where we think and al the other parts we know. where is the dream coming from. i know its in the brain but in wich part of it???

Time slowing could only be achieved by figuratively overclocking your brain. On some levels, we actually do this... like if you stare at a clock you can make the time seem to go faster or slower.... the real problem is that your body isnt entirely capable of keeping up with such overclocking

ah well i guess i will have to stick with AP to get my fun of the days. It would be really kool if we could sorta "freeze" time, or what ever time represents. It would serve the same purpose.
